Mia sat in the park after dark ignoring the calls from her mum. She didn’t want to talk. Her phone kept buzzing and buzzing and buzzing. She sighed into the darkness the only light offered was from the twinkling stars and the dimly lit screen of her phone. She was sure it as going to start raining any minuet a clear indication that the British summer was coming to an end. The squeak of the swing she perched on didn’t do enough to drown out the voice in her head or the patter of heavy footsteps on the solid rubber floor of the play park. Mia knew their eyes were on her she could feel them digging in her back. She froze as they enclosed in on her only a mere few feet away. Her spine straightening and locking.
Don’t freak out!
Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to be sat outside at ten O’clock at night by herself. A slow and deep grey fog spread around the edge of the park Mia abruptly stood shining her torch where she heard the foot steps coming from. Sweat began to gather at her temples as her heart raced with fear. The fog grew thicker spreading vastly over the large park she found it harder to breath. Mia was ready to bolt home when she saw a tall slender dark finger of what looked to be a man. Squinting her eyes she tried to focus on his face but it was too dark and foggy to see any identifying features. When the man stepped forward she spun around to head for the gate but before she got there she bumped into a solid muscley chest Mia was ready to fall on her ass and realise a scream when strong hands griped her back and pulled her close.
They smell good.
‘Hey beautiful.’ Her head shot up to lock eyes with those deep brown ones. Frantically she looked around the park for the faceless man but he was gone and so was that creepy fog. Mia’s eyes searched for him but he was long gone.
It sent shivers down her spine, knowing that man had been watching her. ‘What are you looking for?’
‘I don’t know, t-there was a man and a fog. He was watching me.’ She still searched for him in the dark.
‘What man? What did he look like?’ Greyson vastly watching as she whipped her head about searching. ‘What man Mia?’ He snapped and gripped her chin she should have been mad at him for man handling her but when she looked into his eyes as he darkly repeated ‘What. Man?’ she couldn’t help her stomach when it filled with butterfly’s she grew hot with how close he stood, pressed against her peering down.
‘I don’t know I didn’t see his face, it was probably nothing.’ His facial expression said it was not. ‘Don’t worry about it, I’m just paranoid its dark and creepy.’ His fingers still held her chin and his other hand was still wound around her back keeping her tucked in close. Still being forced to look up at him she watched as he surveys every inch of the park looking closely in all the dark corners for any potential threat. He offered to walk her home but Mia didn’t want to go home just yet and for some odd and unsettling reason she felt safe around him. They way her looked around for any danger made her feel protected. She walked back over to her swing the seat still slightly warm from when she had previously perched herself on it.
‘Why are you out so late and on your own?’ Mia could have asked the same thing but he clenched his jaw and looked down at her crossing his arms. She was scared of him at times the way he demanded answers and constantly snapped when he didn’t get them. She could definitely tell he was from a rich family and wasn’t used to hearing the word no often.
‘Had an argument with my parents.’
‘What happened.’ She wasn’t going to answer that, instead she sat silently on the swing looking out into the darkness of the night.
Greyson hatted the silence it allowed the noise in his head to grown louder to drown him out. He needed the noise to stop. He couldn’t take it. She watched as she struggled to sit in silence. ‘I use to come here a lot when I was a kid, my parents were normal busy during the week but my dad always made sure Sunday was family day.’ A ghost of a smile grace his lips for a second before it vanished, Greyson didn’t show emotion to often. ‘Me mum dad, my little siblings would spend all day in the park. We’d play hide and seek in those woods just over there.’ Greyson pointed to the woods in the distance the longing in his eyes said that family time didn’t happen often these days.
‘I heard monsters live in those woods.’ Mia joked pulling her jumper closer to her body when the wind blew. Mia couldn’t decipher the cold look in Greyson’s eyes grew dark when he muttered something under his breath. ‘What?’
He turned his stone cold glare from the woods to Mia. ‘Monsters aren’t just hiding in the dark woods or under your bed Mia. There could be one sitting right next to you and you wouldn’t even know it.’ He spat darkly causing Mia’s smile to drop from her face. She shifted uncomfortably. People at school called him a monster, a psychopath but Mia didn’t see it. She saw a typical moody teen boy.
‘Somehow I don’t think you’re a monster Greyson.’ She could feel it in her bones, but there was something about him something dark lingering in his eyes something dangerous but maybe that’s what drew her to him. They say every girl loves a bad boy, a bit of danger, they like the rush that it brings them. Maybe that’s what she liked about him. But Mia always liked the dark, she liked the thrill dangerous things gave her. The first time she saw him he wasn’t smirking at all of the girls who gave him lustful stairs, he wasn’t reviling in the scared looks others gave him he was scowling, and sulking, till he saw her. She felt something shift inside of her and she wanted to know more. What he hid behind those eyes. She wanted to know the real Greyson.
‘Then you’re stupid and naïve’ ouch. His words hurt and Greyson knew that but he didn’t apologise. He had bags under his eyes like he hadn’t slept in weeks. ‘I know you heard what I did to that boy before I left.’ She had.
The air grew thick and tense around them. He could feel his wolf moving around under his skin. He wanted out.
Shit.
It was happening again. It was going to happen it couldn’t not around her.
‘I’m sorry.’ It didn’t sound right leaving her lips. ‘I’m sure you had a good reason’
‘He got in my way and started being mouthy, was that a good enough reason to put him in the hospital?’ He leaned down towards her face, he could smell her fear and her sweat scent. ‘Was him being cocky a good enough reason for me to give him a lisp and a permanent f*****g limp?’ Mia against her better judgment took his hand in hers. Anger swirled in his eyes dancing with pain. ‘Are you okay?’ He was shaking trying to hold back his wolf. Mia saw hurt hidden behind his hardened features. She was too sweet. He was just an asshole to her and she wanted to know if he was okay shouldn’t he be the one apologizing. He should apologise he owed her that.
‘Thank you.’ He said and tried to hide his laugh as she tilted her head with a confused smile.
‘You didn’t answer my question.’ And he wasn’t going to.
‘Thank you’ he repeated.
‘What for?’ again no answer. ‘Well thank you too’
‘What for?’ She could have played the game he was but Mia didn’t like mind games. Someone always ended up hurt and it wasn’t fun. ‘You’ve been a good friend to me’ even though I’m crazy sat on her tongue.
‘Is that what we are Mia, friends?’ She hoped they were at least that. She liked him he was nice and didn’t treat her like a nut case. He didn’t push her around and call her names some times he was a jerk though. Grayson who had been perched on the swing beside hers now moved closer. The chains of his swings clanking as he swung his swing right next to her his large hands griped onto the chain. ‘Is that what you want.’ She looked between his eyes and lips as he spoke a deep hungry pit in her stomach wanted to be filled. She grew hotter the closer his face got to hers. Greyson eyes were solely focused on Mia’s lips mostly the bottom lip she drew between her teeth.
Greyson was the most selfless selfish person anyone had met if he wanted something he took it but he would sacrifice everything and anything for the people he cared for. They kept him going, giving him reason to live when all he wanted was to stop.
A lot of Grayson choices where not his own his life had been planned out for him as most kids of rich and successful family’s had but as a one day alpha Greyson’s every second of everyday was planned to a tea once he left school.
So he made a decision for himself. One he was afraid to see the out come of but consequences be dammed.
So he kissed her.
When their lips touched a thousand hot sparks coursed through his body warming him up like he had been cold for centuries. He wanted to growl and pull her back when she pulled away looking at him in shock. It was a simple kiss nothing more than a long lingering peck... but that was all it took to start a frenzy between them.
He read the lust on her face.
Greyson stood up from his swing vastly walking in front of her bending down he captured her lips with his once again.
She sucked in breath startled by the aggression behind his actions, his lips slanted over hers over and over again. Her lips tasted innocent and addicting how he going to bring himself to pull away he didn’t know. Greyson slid tongue between her lips detecting her nerves had gotten the better of her.
Snaking his arms around her waist to pulled her up from the swing the action made Mia gasp he seized the opportunity to thrust his tongue into her mouth. Mia panicked she had never kissed anyone before and she didn’t want to be a disappointment. A little moan escaped her when their tongues met. Greyson took his time to teach her exactly what to do, how he liked it. Tangling their tongues he was dominating the kiss pulling her even closer he drove his fingers into her hair. Soon they found a gentle rhythm filled with passion.
Mia took him by surprise when she pulled at the hair at the nape of his neck to stop him from pulling away.
'Aww look she can't get enough of us' His wolf was going just as crazy as he was, he’d wanted this this he first laid his eyes on his pretty little human mate.
She was becoming quite breathless but she was his new found oxygen. Greyson found the strength to pull away but rested his forehead against hers. He wanted her close to him. Her green eyes no longer sad or scared but dazed and paired with a sappy smile. ‘Wow’ was all she could say. It was like every bad thing inside both of them had been dissolved into a puddle of nothing by one simple kiss.
He looked up at the stars taking a deep breath calming his racing hart being around her when she smiled had him and his wolf going mad. All she had to do is smile at him and he would drop to his knees.
He shouldn’t have kissed her it was going to bring a long list of complications and entanglements that he was sure Mia didn’t want to be involved with. He was such a mess but around her his mess seemed more… controlled? Wrapped up inside of his own thoughts he hadn’t even realised Mia had slipped away. They just shared there first kiss and Mia first ever kiss he was in dream land. A distant giggle pulled him from himself and his eyes moved around the park to where she was calling his name from the top of the slide.
Jesus what was she doing running round a park like a five year old.
‘letting loose asshole you should try it, while you’re at it remove the stick from up your ass and stop being a dick.’
Greyson cursed his wolf in his head. He hadn’t meant to be mean to her earlier, walking over to the slide he watched her slide down to the bottom to where he stood.
‘Come’ she tried to get him to go up the side with her but when he stood there with his eyebrows raised and arms crossed she bit her lip and sat down on the bottom of the cold metal slide.
Shit.
‘I wana bit that lip.’ His wolf growled Greyson could feel the dark fur of his wolf tickling him under his skin itching to be let free.
He huffed before sitting behind her resting his chin on her shoulder on arm around her waist the other tracing lines up and down her arm. He was surprised by how relaxed she was with him right now, Mia always came across as shy and quiet but she was so carefree and happy with him in this moment Greyson could taste it in the air. Moments of silence surrounded them just like the darkness Greyson had always been afraid of the darkness and what it was hiding. The quiet intermit moment was disturbed by Mia. ‘I use to come here a lot with my friends. Me, Ava and Bethany.’ Ava? Where did he know that name from. ‘Bethany?’ He hadn’t been back for long but he had heard the whispering going around the school about what happened between the two. He also had seen the way Bethany had treated her on multiple occasions. It never occurred to him that the two would have been that close seeing as how Bethany treated Mia as less than dirt.
‘We were best friends all three of us. Ava was Bethany’s twin.’ Greyson could the raw pain in her voice.
‘Was?’
‘She died…’ Greyson swallowed, he stopped breathing he remembered what happened to Ava. It went around the school. The thirteen year old girl who took her life.
A pause before she spoke again taking a deep breath she told the story of one of her traumas one she was never able to tell anyone. ‘Bethany Ava and I, sisters. We were inseparable since we were six. Back then Bethany was shy and me and Ava were the outgoing ones’ She let out a laugh about how the times have change. ‘When she died it all went to s**t’ surprised he heard her curse Mia had always seemed to much of a proper princess to swear.
‘Everything started crumbling and it was my fault, it was all my fault’
‘How was it your fault?’ He felt her stiffen in his arms. ‘You don’t have to share’
‘I just thought… since we… kissed… you should know more about me.’ Mia moved away from him. ‘It’s late I should go home.’
‘I’ll walk you, oh and, I look forward to getting to know you more.’ He gave her a panty dropping smirk as he opened the gate and let her walk through it.
*******
‘What’s that face for?’ was the first thing Greyson heard when he walked inside the pack house. The pack house wasn’t too far away from Greyson’s family home. When the alpha and Luna started a family they wanted more privacy to raise the kids so they moved out of the pack house. Not all wolves lived there mostly the newly turned wolves and the ones on rotation for training.
‘What face?’ He tried to shove passed Ryan.
‘That s**t eating grin you’ve got on your face.’ Callum pointed out rising up from one of the sofas walking over to Greyson with a curious look in his eye but his face still blank like always.
‘Did you go see Mia…’ Ryan was practically bouncing on the balls of his feet trying to get it out of Greyson, he was quickly beginning to piss him off. Ryan always managed to piss him off.
‘I kissed her.’
‘What?!’ Both of them said. Callum seemed disgusted were as Ryan could not be any more excited. ‘f**k, oh my god tell me everything’ Ryan demanded. Callum just gave the both of them a look of disgust before slumping down onto the couch.
‘Come on’ Ryan yanked on Greyson’s arm in order to gain his attention.
‘No! f**k sake, I'm not going to sit here and gossip with you like a bunch of b***h's’ Greyson snapped.
‘What, why not’ he whined.
‘f**k sake Ryan’
‘Fine I'll just ask Mia’ He huffed as he sat down next to Callum.
‘The f**k you will.’ Greyson bared his canines letting out a deep warning growl. ‘You will not go near her’ This however didn’t faze his best friend at all.
‘Oh possessive’ Ryan mocked. Callum simply scoffed. ‘What the f***s your problems s**t for brains.’ Ryan said turning to Callum.
‘Nothing f**k face.’ Oh great here we go again. The two started squabbling it was not to long before punches were being thrown at one another. Why must they always do this. Only these two could piss Greyson off and get away with it.
‘Alright that's enough’ They instantly stopped Callum bowed his head Ryan just grinned at Greyson. A big cheesy grin they Greyson wanted to wipe clean of his face.
‘What do you thinks going to happen Greyson?’ Callum asks stepping forwards a little. ‘Do you think you and this Mia girl will live happily ever after once she finds out what you are.’ Calum spat her name out like dirt. ‘I've seen Rexy Bexy or should I say buli-MIA’ Greyson didn’t know where he was going with this but he sure as s**t didn’t like it. Or his nick name for Mia. ‘She is shy and quite people bully her and she lets them walk all over her. She is not fit to be a Luna. She's human you need someone strong by your side when you take over from your father.’
He continues to walk towards Greyson taking calculated threatening steps. He is one of Greyson’s best friends that was the only reason he was allowing him to speak to him the way he was. ‘Do you think she will stay when she learns what a monster you can be.’
‘What the f**k Callum!’ Ryan scolds him. Callum's eyes are black as he looks between Greyson and Ryan. He walks past the two boys shoving their shoulders and slamming the door to the cinema room behind him. ‘What the f*****g hell was that all about?’ Ryan murmurs his brows furrowed in confusion.
‘I have no idea.’ Greyson had the exact same look on his face symmetrical to the one on his best friends. What the hell just happened?
‘He was fine until you said you kissed Mia. Then got his knickers in a twist.’ He tilted his head to the side still staring at the door. ‘Oh I almost forgot this came for you.’
He pulled a neatly folded piece of paper out of his back pocket handing it to Greyson. The edges were a little crumpled. It was sealed with a red wax stamp. Pressed into the red stamp was a star and at each of the five points was a different symbol.
The top point of the star had a crescent moon, going around the star there was an eye, wing, fangs, and a shell. The letter was written in cursive writing.
You began when he finished with love.
You were the pride and joy of his pack.
Sweet and innocent you once were till you turned.
monstrous and vicious.
Just down right malicious.
He taught you how to keep him at bay.
But the monster inside of you is here to stay.
Will you be bringing harm her way.
She might be your obsession
But will she face the rath of your aggression.
Mia's bloods is our possession.
Yours truly Alastor
‘What the f**k is this"
‘I don't know it was dropped off for you?’ He shrugged his shoulders
‘Who dropped it off what did they look like. Dad!’ Greyson was frantically running through the pack house shoving people left right and centre.
‘What's the matter Greyson?’ His mother placed her hands on his shoulders attempting to calm him. His eyes were dark hand balled into fist so tight his knuckles turned white. He didn’t have time for this. He was losing control his bones vibrated, his body shook but not with anger. No. With fear. For the first time in a long time Greyson felt scared. Scared to lose the one thing that just might be able to save him from himself.
‘He's out the back training.’ Her eyes glass over letting her son know she's mind linking someone. ‘He's on his way’
Not a second later Jason ran in snatching the letter from the hands that held it. ‘Jesus f*****g Christ’ He mutters under his breath. Greyson was close to losing it. His wolf was clawing his way out. Demanding to be let out to see his mate.
‘How dare someone threaten my mate.’ The beast was out, there was no stopping him now. You’d be foolish to even try. ‘Her blood is not there possession it's MINE! All of her. From the perfect hair on her head to the tips of her toes. MINE’ The beasts voice came out deeper than ever before even though both Greyson and the monster shared a voice box.
The werewolves in the pack house ran of locking themselves in their rooms away from the c*****e that was about to take place. Jason stood in front of Rosette protecting her from her own child. Something a mother should never need protecting from. Both the mother and father were dumb struck when the beast who was there son went into his own little dream land of Mia nodding and huffing his head as he said all of her belongs to him. ‘Her hands… are mine. Her arms… are mine, Her eyes… are mine. Her lips… ohh yes they are mine My princess.’
This had never happed before. Jason had never witnessed this side of his son, not since he was about five stropping over sharing his toys toys. It was quite amusing to watch this big hairy beast mumble about his princess. Jason was waiting to see if anything was going to change to see if his sons blackened eyes were going to turn a blood thirsty red but they didn’t. They remained black. Greyson was able to push that part of him aside and regain control of his own body.
‘uhh by the way Grayson found his mate.’ Ryan clapped Jason on the back stunning Rosette and Jason with his words.
Both son and father were now sitting in his office looking at the letter.
‘What does the symbols mean?’ Greyson asked.
Alpha Jason sighed before explaining. ‘Well the star represents possession. Meaning the spirits. Who we now know are called Alastors. The five points represent each different supernatural creature. The crescent moon is for the wolf, the fangs are for vampire, wings are for angle good or bad I don't know and the shell represents sirens.’
‘what about the eye?’
His father scratches the back of his head. ‘I don't know. I've never seen that before. I'll look into it, in the meantime keep yourself in control, whatever you did today worked. The… he… it’ he didn’t know what to call Greyson’s inner demon. ‘You were able to push him, somehow. And keep your distance from the girl till we know she’s not in any danger from you-him-it. He was extremely possessive over her more than he should be.’
‘Well that might be hard considering I kissed her tonight.’ He said in a bored tone while raising an eyebrow at him lifting his hands up while shrugging his shoulders.
‘f**k sake. Just try Greyson’ His mums voice could be heard in the distance say she heard Jason curse. ‘Sorry dear.’ He said knowing she was listening.
Putting his tongue against the inside of his cheek he scoffed and shook his head mumbling how that's not going to happen.
‘I mean it Greyson you stay away from her just until we have a plan to keep her and the rest safe.’ When Greyson went to protest again he stood up tall both his palms flat against the desk and lent forward. ‘I mean it. stay. away.’
‘For f**k sake’ Greyson knifed up walking out slamming the office door behind him.
‘Do you really think a human girl is his mate, and there still so young this is impossible.’ Greyson didn’t wait around to hear his father’s response to Rosettes question. Should he be staying away from her.
