Chapter 8

2251 Words
Otis's POV I followed Conrad's footsteps to a wide field and was surprised to see where he was taking me. Conrad had brought me to the training ground. What was he trying to do? I looked at his sturdy back and felt confused. Was he going to beat me up hard here? I thought of his disgusting words and eyes, and I felt that it was not impossible, as if a stone had been packed into my heart. "Marsh! Come here! I need you to help train this fragile slave. She must meet the minimum standards of our warriors as soon as possible." I felt a little incredulous at Conrad's words. He had brought me here to train me, not to beat me. But why was he training me? I thought about it for a while and couldn't figure it out. After all, Conrad's heart was like a sewing needle sunk into the bottom of the sea, I wanted to understand but could not find a clue, so I simply did not continue to guess his thoughts. Anyway, it was Moon Goddess's luck for me! I needed the training so badly because it was the only thing that would give me a chance to become strong so I could avenge my home! I tried my best to train when I was in Grey Pack, even risked being beaten up to practice dodging by running away, but that only honed my dodging ability. There, I didn't get systematic and effective training, and there was no nutritious and healthy food for me. So, apart from dodging, my strength, fighting skills, and physical strength grew very little. I am too weak, and the possibility of revenge is almost invisible if this situation continues. I never thought that I would have such an opportunity today. My heartfelt and indescribable excitement. I had to hold this opportunity tightly in my hands! "John, you'll be in charge of her test." Marsh's voice had just reached my ears, and the next moment, a young werewolf stood in front of me. He was tall and strong like a small mountain, and I had to use all my strength to deal with this enemy. "Well, beauty. Even though you are female, there is no gender on the training ground, and I will not treat you as a woman here." My opponent, the young werewolf John, spoke coldly to me and then spread his two powerful arms. He was already in an attack position. "Sure, of course, you can do that." I responded to him just as forcefully. After Grey Pack's brutal treatment, this man couldn't intimidate me at all. "Ha! Brave girl, look out!" No sooner had John finished his words than he charged at me, two powerful fists swinging, and then he punched me right in the face with his right fist! Looking at the rapidly approaching fist I didn't panic. I could have dodged an attack at that speed! I focused my power on my legs and twisted gently to avoid his fist, followed by a kick to his chest. But the next moment I felt like I had kicked a hard iron plate. He only swayed his torso in a tiny arc, which didn't affect him much. I couldn't hurt him at all with my best kick! My strength was not enough! He was far more powerful than me! But I couldn't just surrender! Only in battle could I become stronger! I must fight with all my strength, even if my chances of winning are small. Dodging John's fist again, my leg kicked out like a whip to try to attack what appeared to be a weak defensive calf. John's calf twitched just a little. His calves are just as strong! No! I had to fight to the end, attacking every possible weak spot on his body! The battle continued as I dodged his attacks and attacked John with all my strength, but his body was like hard stone and my attacks were too useless. In a few minutes, I felt that my strength was about to run out and my actions became slow. My dodging movements became overwhelming, and suddenly he hit me in the shoulder with a punch. The pain came from my shoulder as my body swayed and almost fell from the tremendous force of the blow. I felt like I had been hit by a big rock. No! I had to hold on until the end! The pain was well within my tolerance! I gritted my teeth tightly and strained against his attack. Now I can barely do anything to attack him, I can only keep defending, but my defense is becoming more and more difficult. A breakthrough. John kicked me in the leg, but this time I didn't have the strength to continue holding back. The tremendous force made me lose my balance instantly, and I fell to the ground uncontrollably. I had lost. "You're a very tenacious girl." John smiled up and turned his appreciative gaze on me. He reached out a hand and pulled me up, "You deserve my respect." "Well, this failure is only temporary, I will train hard to surpass you in the future." I said looking at him seriously. Applause rang out from behind me and I turned my head to look over as Marsh came over to me with an approving smile. "You guys did a good job, especially you, Otis. I didn't expect you to have such dodging skills." Marsh looked at me, "Your physical strength is too weak to keep dodging to take down your opponent. You need to do more training! Follow me." I followed him without the slightest hesitation. I knew exactly what I knew about the strength I possessed. I wasn't strong enough, that's why I needed more and stronger training. I needed the training that would make me strong. Marsh brought me to a group of young werewolves. These young wolves were all adolescent wolves, looking a little weaker than the adult John. They seemed to be the weakest group of all the training teams. "You can train with them now. If you can't hold on, don't force yourself to continue." I didn't refuse his offer. I knew that I was not physically capable of matching those powerful werewolves now. "Beta Marsh. I hope you are strict with me. I promise you that I will be able to complete all the training." I said seriously to him. Marsh nodded in satisfaction, though I could still feel the worry in his eyes for me. The training began. The first exercise was a physical running exercise. I ran along with the teenage werewolves. The wind blew past my ears, and I could feel that although these teenage werewolves were physically weaker than the other adult werewolves, they were still stronger than me. I couldn't lag, I had to train with all my strength. This training life was exhausting, but it was still much better than my days as a slave in Grey Pack. This was a chance that Moon Goddess had given me that was hard to come by before! Time passed slowly, and it was soon afternoon after a non-stop training session. I kept gritting my teeth to complete the physical training such as carrying stones, attacking stakes, and going over obstacles. Even though my strength was almost exhausted, it made me feel happy. Because I am walking on the road to becoming stronger! "Okay, that's it for today's training. Everyone go back and rest well, don't delay tomorrow's training." Marsh's voice rang out, everyone stopped training, and my body followed suit and became relaxed. My whole body was soaked with sweat, and every joint was filled with exhaustion. Several small cuts appeared on my skin, but I felt very relieved. Marsh came up to me, and something seemed to change in the way he looked at me. "Good job. You've worked hard today. I hope you can keep it up like today." "Sure." I nodded vigorously and then turned toward my room. The sun had set on the edge of the mountain, and the dim light shone on me. I gradually relaxed, and that tiredness was coming up fast. Those bruises that were accidentally created during training... Although they were all small cuts, the pain was still very clear in my brain. I think I need to take care of the wounds. I went back to my room but saw the medicine on the table, which was prepared in advance and it's for traumatic injuries. Wynna had prepared this for me, right? I felt warmth from such an act, and my tiredness today seemed to be relieved. Wynna always brings warmth to me, and she treats me almost like my mother. She was the first ray of light I saw after the dark days I had experienced at Grey Pack. I sat on the bed and rubbed those wounds on my body, and the pain soon dissipated a lot. I thought I had to go and thank Wynna or I would have been condemned by Moon Goddess and my heart. I walked out of the room and soon found Wynna, who was sweeping the aisles. "Ma'am, thank you for the medicine, it helped me a lot." I said sincerely looking at Wynna, and this moment came from my heart. "Medicine?" Wynna smiled, "Kid, that's from Conrad. I think you should go thank him." "Conrad? He's the one who prepared the medicine for me?" I could hardly believe my ears. Didn't he always dislike me? How could he prepare medicine for my injuries? Those words of Conrad's replayed in my mind. I could hardly believe it was true, but Wynna wouldn't lie to me. My heart was full of doubts and at the same time some expectations, so I hesitated for a while and then turned around and walked towards Conrad's place. If he had prepared the medicine for my injury, I should thank him. I went to the door of Conrad's room, and just as I was about to knock, he came out. As soon as he saw me, a stern look appeared on his face. "Why are you hanging out here? Get ready for dinner." He turned and left after saying this, leaving me with only a backward glance without looking at me again. His words were like a knife in my heart, sending back all those words I wanted to say. Wynna must have misremembered. How could Conrad have prepared the medicine for my injuries? It must not have been Conrad who prepared it for me. ----------- The next day arrived quickly. I woke up at dawn and went to the kitchen to prepare Conrad's coffee and breakfast. After a day of rest, all my fatigue was gone. Almost all of my minor injuries had healed and only a few aches and pains from over-exercise remained. These aches and pains were a sign of getting stronger for me. I felt that I had renewed hope. The distance between me and my goal was closing. I left my note to train at the track next to Conrad's breakfast and coffee and ran towards the track. The training ground wasn't very far from the Pack House. Soon I entered the building that held all my hopes. "Otis, come here!" Marsh, who was standing on the training ground, quickly saw me and pointed in the direction of the young werewolves, "Today we're going to do power combat training. This is a key program for you who lack explosive power, and I hope you can stick with it." "Beta Marsh, I'll do my best!" After saying that, I joined the young wolves in the training group. Strength combat training is a kind of training where one person attacks and one person blocks, and the one who blocks cannot dodge, and then swap attacks and defenses. This kind of training can not only exercise combat skills but also improve explosive power! "Attack me with all your strength. I think I'm the easiest in a group with you." The person standing in front of me was a young, thin werewolf. Although his body was not as strong as others, he was still stronger than me. He took a defensive stance in front of me, and I could feel the disdain in his eyes as he looked at me. Looking at his provocative eyes, I punched him in the chest with all my might, but his arm was in front of his chest. The recoil from my fist caused my hand to ache, but that was just the beginning. He blocked almost every one of my attacks, and before long I was not only out of strength, but my palms were all sore. That's when I heard Marsh's voice. "Exchange." The young werewolf in front of me instantly changed his stance. "Now it's my turn to attack, watch out." I nodded and began to defend, then I heard a gust of wind as the man's right arm zoomed in front of my eyes like a speeding train. I hurriedly put my arm in front of me, and the next moment the force was transmitted through my arm to my whole body. I took two steps backwards. A tingling pain came from my arm. His strength was much stronger than I expected! He continued to attack me, and I gritted my teeth as I strained to resist. Sweat slid down my forehead, and my arm trembled.
