Chapter 3 I Want to Travel around the World

"Paula, you are so beautiful!" Under the rotating colorful lights, I could not help but praise her when I saw her flirtatious demeanor. Paula smiled more charmingly while hearing my compliment. Her pretty face was rosy. She was drunk. She opened her cherry lips, breathing lightly. "Paula, go with me!" I invited her again affectionately. But she pushed me away again and said slowly, "I still have such a big store to manage. I can't leave." "Leave it to the manager of your store!" I didn't know how to run a business, so I made a random suggestion and truly wanted her to leave with me. Paula pursed her lips and shook her head. She raised her brows, her eyes blurred. "I don't know anything. I really want you to take me to have fun." "What kind of fun?" "Well…" "Paula, I'm not a scumbag." "I didn't mean anything inappropriate." "Then what are you going to do with me?" "You... You can just stay with me." Seeing that I was quite smart, Paula smiled flirtatiously while continuing to dance with me and said, "Don't you need me to sleep with you?" "No, no need..." I said nervously, my face burning. Paula laughed and danced, she stopped, pulled me to sit at the small square table again, and said, "Sister is really busy, you can take your girlfriend there!" "I don't have a girlfriend yet." "How is this possible?" Paula exclaimed exaggeratedly. "Paula, I'm telling the truth," I said hurriedly. Seeing that I was being sincere, she said, "You can also have a temporary girlfriend." "Temporary?" It was the first time I heard this, so I was stunned for a while. I felt that as a poor kid, I could never keep up with the rich. "It's a one-night stand. Don't you ever do that?" I opened my eyes wide and shook my head desperately at Paula. She was amazed, then smiled charmingly and said, "Do you want to have a one-night stand with me?" Uh? At this point, I felt even more out of place in this rich people's world as if I had come from outer space. Should I answer yes or no? "Huh?" Paula urged me. I didn't know what she wanted exactly. I started to feel uneasy, so I took off my jacket, took a few steps back, did a backflip, and started dancing. The people coming to the party were all sitting around their small tables, chatting and drinking while I danced alone under the changing colorful lights. Soon, the loud music sounded. I caused a sensation on the whole dance floor. Everyone turned to look at me. I was in the limelight, so I danced even more vigorously. I jumped and spun around, like a hip-hop master showing off my strength to the fullest. Paula took my jacket and stood up. She was full of surprise. With a smug smile on her face, she was the first to take the lead to applaud. Soon, there was thunderous applause. With the music blaring, it felt amazing. I was making fancy moves, showing the wildness and agility of hip-hop to the extreme. A few minutes later, I spun swiftly and stood up from the ground when the music ended, bowed to thank everyone, and won rapturous applause which lasted for a long time. Amidst the applause, Paula came to me with my jacket. My vanity increased. I got carried away when hearing the applause, so I did a few backflips with excitement. However, with a plop, I fell into the swimming pool. In the water, I choked on a mouthful of water, felt dizzy, and struggled desperately. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain. My leg cramped, and the more I struggled, the more my body sank. I said to myself, "Damn! Hurry up. Someone should jump in to save me!" But for a long time, I saw countless figures swaying on the water, and Paula was among them, but no one jumped in to save me, so I closed my eyes in disappointment. At this time, I seemed to understand that the richer a person was, the more afraid of death he would be! I was so suffocated that I wanted to take a breath, so I took a gulp of water. My stomach hurt. There were countless images flashing through my mind. When I was three years old, I fell from the persimmon tree in front of my house. When I was four years old, I fell off a single-plank bridge and was washed away over 100 meters by the river. When I was five years old, I jumped on the bonfire that my grandfather made with bamboos, and my trousers caught on fire, so my grandfather threw me into the dustbin to get rid of the fire. When I was seven years old, my uncle and I went up the mountain to chop some wood, but the hatchet cut my index finger. When I was nine years old, I went for a morning run with my classmates. I fell and hurt my upper lip. After surviving a great disaster, one was bound to have good fortune in later years. When I finally got my good fortune, I was going to be drowned in the water of this swimming pool. A sense of serious suffocation hit me, which made me dizzy. No, I couldn't die! Since no one came to save me, I should save myself! Thinking of this, I endured the severe pain of my feet, kicked strongly on the ground, and tried to paddle upward with both hands. With a splash, I popped out of the water and immediately gasped for breath. But the rich people by the pool clapped vigorously, and there was another round of thunderous applause. I was a little stunned and climbed to the ground helplessly. I supposed they thought I was showing how long I could hold my breath. I thought to myself, "s**t! These heartless rich guys. I almost died!" Paula walked to me. I didn't see the expression on her face. I simply grabbed my jacket from her hand and then limped out of Ripple Manor. I took a taxi back to the hotel. My shirt and trousers were wet. It was early summer. When the wind blew at night, I couldn't help but shudder. Hence, instead of walking into the hotel, I endured the pain in my feet and went to a nearby store to buy a jacket, a pair of leather shoes, a backpack, and a wallet. I always chose to buy the most expensive ones. After going through the incident just now, I was afraid that I would die before I could spend all the money. After that, I went back to the presidential suite of the hotel, put a bathtub of hot water to have a bath and rubbed my feet, and washed my clothes which were soaked. I wrapped a bath towel around my body and felt that my feet were less sore. I took the washed clothes out of the bathroom and went to hang them outside the window. Lying on the soft and comfortable king-size bed, I felt alive again. I was breathing heavily, reluctant to close my eyes after a long while. I had lingering fears. I was afraid that once I closed my eyes, I would never be able to open them again. Last night, I slept on a hard bed in the school dormitory, but tonight I was staying in the presidential suite of a five-star hotel. It felt like a dream, which seemed extremely unreal. I tossed and turned in bed until late in the night when I finally fell asleep. The next morning, I was woken up by the alarm I set on my cell phone. I got up to wash up and took back the clothes hung out of the window and placed them in my backpack. I like blue, so the jacket I bought was also blue, which made me look clean and refreshing when I wore it. When I picked up the backpack, I found that the pain in my feet was completely gone. I then walked out of the room, took the elevator downstairs to check out of the hotel. I checked the map on my phone and took a taxi to Huangmere International Airport. My mother sent this cell phone to me as my birthday gift from the coast last year. Although it was not expensive and was merely an unknown brand worth more than 200 dollars, it was a nice phone. I was reluctant to change it. The taxi took me to the entrance of a subway station. I got out of the car and walked towards the subway in high spirits.
