Like I said the night wasn’t going to end well and what happened you ask, well I ended up embarrassing myself so badly Gabriel stormed away and took a girl with him. I felt so humiliated and so stupid, it took everything in me to stop myself from confronting him today. “ what am I doing pepper” I asked her as I threw myself down on my bed. “ what you mean babe” she asked painting her nails. “ why am I so obsessed with him what’s wrong with me” i said on the verge of tears. “ you need a refresh after last night literally getting naked and dancing on a bar i think we should pack up and go away” she said making me laugh. “ i wish i so wish” i said. “ what’s their to wish for let’s do it what’s here for us anyways” she said making me sit up. “ are you being real” i ask her. “ yeah let’s go and never look back” she said grinning. “ what about my dad” i ask her. “ he is always around and he has his own life you know that” she said which wasn’t wrong as he seems to have a better social life than me. “ where would we go” i ask her. “ anywhere Gabriel isn’t good for you o see that so do you so let’s just go we always have wanted too and your dad even said it months back” she said making me grin. “ oh god why am I thinking about this” I said. It didn’t take me long to make up my mind and once I did we was both looking for one way flights away from here. As soon as we landed on a city far far away from here she left to see her family and I went to see my dad. The conversation was long and emotional but at the end all he said was I want you to be happy and if that’s not here go. I always knew my life would be so much more and I finally feel like I am doing what’s right. I look down at my phone which is filled with many many messages from Gabriel and what do I do, I throw it out of peppers car window as we drive away. ——————————- 5 years later “ Crew Mathies you get your little stink butt back here right now “ I should after my daughter as I chase her around my front yard. “ mummy can’t get me mummy can’t get me” she yelled giggling. “ ugh. HUGO come get your daughter” I shout to my husband who came waltzing out carrying our tiny triplets Pilet, Cadet and Ranger. “ I would baby but I kinda got my hands full” he said making me giggle. Who would have thought 5 years later me with 4 kids and an amazing normal husband. 5 years ago I left my old life and moved to New Zealand with my best friend and it was the best decision I had ever made. We are both now married with kids and we are both happy. My father comes to visit every chance he gets and he is always here with the kids to babysit. He has a girlfriend called tashi and she is super nice, she adores my children and that’s all I care about. I wish we had decided to do this rarified but my life was crazy and the whole situation with Gabriel had me in a tail spin. I’m glad it didn’t last too long because otherwise I wouldn’t be here with my big family and my happiness. “ Jesus” pepper said making me turn to her hoping one of the kids haven’t spilt their food. L what” I ask her confused. “ I…it’s Gabriel he’s dead” she said making me freeze and look at the tv that’s showing news of his death. “ o..oh” is all I could say as I didn’t know what to say. “ apparently he was killed in a gun fight poor guy” she said as I stood frozen still trying to take this in. “ I..I don’t know how to feel, I feel nothing” I said scared that this is wrong. “ I mean same we left that life behind 5 years ago hen we shouldn’t have feelings about him and from all the recent news articles good riddance who needs a Mafia man in their life he was evil remember” she said making me nod. “ god who would have thought 5 years ago I pictured my life with him and now he’s a Mafia boss well dead Mafia boss” I said making her laugh. Pepper's laughter faded into a contemplative silence, her eyes scanning the screen as if searching for answers in the news of Gabriel's demise. "I mean, who could've predicted this twist of fate?" she murmured, her tone laced with a mix of disbelief and relief. As I stood there, grappling with the news, memories of my tumultuous past with Gabriel flooded back. The fear, the uncertainty, the constant danger—it all seemed like a distant nightmare now, a chapter closed forever. "I guess life has a funny way of turning out," I finally said, breaking the heavy silence. "Five years ago, I couldn't imagine a future beyond him. Now, here we are, living our best lives." Pepper nodded in agreement, her gaze softening with understanding. "Exactly. We left that life behind for a reason. We found happiness, Lee, and nothing can take that away from us." Her words resonated deeply within me, reaffirming the choices we had made and the life we had built together. In the midst of Gabriel's demise, I found clarity—a reaffirmation of the joy and fulfillment I had discovered in my newfound family. Turning away from the television, I took a deep breath, letting go of the lingering shadows of the past. "You're right, Pepper. We've moved on, and I wouldn't change a thing." With a shared smile, we embraced the present, grateful for the love and happiness that surrounded us. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over our tranquil lives, I knew that our journey was far from over—but whatever lay ahead, we would face it together, stronger than ever before. We all move on, we all create new lives, don’t let the past drag you down and don’t let your present stop you from having a better future. In the middle of university so what leave, in the middle of becoming a king so what leave if that’s what’s best for you do it and trust me you will never forget it. Your life will be forever the better and your whole surroundings will be better. Don’t let the past stop you from being you and sure as hell don’t let a man cloud your vision.
