Genevieve
“You have to focus, Genevieve! Don’t let anything distract you!” Liliana insisted.
“How am I supposed to focus when my son and mate are down there? I should be down there with them! Jericho is only a week old!” I complained, wishing I didn't have to train so far away from my loved ones.
“There is always going to be family down there, or something happening to distract you, Genevieve. You have to learn how to forget about everything else and focus on your primary objective! Distractions are your enemy! All it takes is the slightest distraction and poof… you just killed an entire kingdom of innocents!” my mother explained with a serious expression on her face.
“That seems a little dramatic, don’t you think?” I sassed.
Suddenly, a lightning bolt shot out of my mother’s fingers and zigzagged down to the ground, splitting a tree in half.
After sighing in frustration, she glared at me and grumbled, “This is what I was talking about. I got distracted by your sass and let my anger out in the form of lightning. Had there been anybody right there, they would have died!”
“Okay… okay… I get it,” I muttered, not knowing what else to say.
“Good! Now, try again,” she ordered.
Pushing all other thoughts to the back of my mind, I focused on my hands and willed my power to them. Keeping my eyes fixed on my hands, I saw a pearlescent orb form.
I moved my hands so one palm was beneath the orb, then I held my other hand palm down above the orb and moved it in a circular motion. Several seconds passed by, then a picture started to form within the orb.
I kept going with the circular motion and watched in amazement, as Atreyu rocked our little guy to sleep. Tears of both joy and sadness formed under my eyelids, but I didn’t care. I finally accomplished my goal for that day. In doing so, I got to see my man in action, taking care of our son, and that was the greatest reward of all.
“Well done, Genevieve! I knew you could do it! You just have to keep your focus!” my mother praised with her eyes full of excitement.
“I will be doing this a lot whenever I’m up here,” I mumbled in response, not taking my eyes off of the orb.
“I’m sure you will. Now, it’s time for you to join your family on earth. Tomorrow will be a long day of training, so make sure to get plenty of rest,” she advised.
Excited to see my mate and our baby, I flew into the castle and rushed to the royal suite. After placing the orb on my dresser, I ran back outside to find my mother standing on the cloud where I left her.
Not wasting a second, I gave her a quick hug and said, “Goodbye,” then I dove off of the cloud with my wings tucked behind my back to make my descent to the ground faster.
As the Red Thorn Kingdom became visible, my heart started racing with anticipation. It was the first time I had been away from Jericho for more than an hour or so, and it was almost enough to drive me mad with worry.
I knew Atreyu would be great with our son, but I was worried about how Jericho would handle the distance between us. When watching them in the orb, Jericho looked peaceful and at ease with his father, so that was a concern I could let go of.
Of course, that didn’t stop me from yearning to be home. Sure, the Cloud Kingdom was technically a second home, but Atreyu and Jericho weren’t there, so it didn’t feel like much of a home to me.
Atreyu
It wasn’t my first time tending to our son’s needs without Genevieve’s help, but it was definitely the longest span of time to date. I didn’t have any problems, since Genevieve was able to hand pump breast milk for me to feed Jericho while she was training.
I’m sure it also helped to have an especially happy baby. Jericho was almost always smiling unless he needed to be fed or needed his diaper changed.
Genevieve fed Jericho right before she left, then he napped for a few hours before he was ready to be fed again. He was so young, he slept more than anything, allowing me to have time to deal with my duties as a king.
Luckily, I was able to take care of most things from my personal office, and the others could wait until later. If something came up that needed my immediate attention, I knew I could count on Lorelei to sit with Jericho, but that hadn’t been the case thus far, and I couldn’t have been happier about it.
It was nice to spend some one-on-one time with my son, but I missed Genevieve while she was gone. You’d think I would have been used to it by then, but I knew that was something I would never get used to.
We were gonna be deprived of a lot of time together in the present, but the end result will be well worth it when we’re able to spend the rest of eternity standing side-by-side. That’s what I had to keep telling myself whenever I felt sad, missing my beautiful mate.
In fact, that’s what I was telling myself when I heard light footsteps running down the hallway toward the nursery. I stopped rocking and focused my eyes on the doorway, then I waited.
Finally, Genevieve appeared before my eyes, looking absolutely radiant. Her captivating eyes, the color of amethyst, twinkled with excitement, and the most beautiful smile stretched across my mate’s gorgeous face.
Relief and happiness to see her in the flesh rushed over me, as I quickly got to my feet, then I took three long strides while Genevieve skipped toward me. With Jericho cradled in the crook of my left arm, I circled my right arm around Genevieve’s waist and pulled her closer to me the second she stopped skipping.
Our lips came together for a wonderful welcome home kiss that lasted close to a full minute. As I pulled my lips away from hers, I breathed out, “Welcome home, angel. We missed you.”
“I missed you,” Genevieve responded before pecking another kiss on my lips. Upon pulling her lips away from mine, Genevieve scooped Jericho into her arms, then she cradled him against her chest, as she sweetly hummed, “My precious little boy, mommy missed you, too.”
Jericho cooed at his mother, and it was the cutest thing ever. Genevieve and I both chuckled at our son, then she glanced up at me and suggested, “We should go sit together in the living room.”
“Yes, we should,” I agreed, draping my arm over her shoulders, so we could walk together.
