I sat quietly behind my desk and tried to work on my paperwork but I couldn't. My mind kept wandering to my mate, Adrianna. I twiddled with my pen between my fingers. The more I try to grow close to her, the more she pushes herself away from me and it kills me. She won't tell me what's wrong and I've questioned myself many times if it's me. If I was the problem. But if I was, she probably would have rejected me already right?
"Aiden."
I looked up and saw my mother standing in the doorway. Mom had a concerned look on her usually cheerful face and I knew it was because of me.
"Yeah, mom?"
"I'm worried about you son. What's the matter? Is it that girl again?" She wrinkled her nose.
I threw my pen on the desk and ran a hand through my hair in frustration, "Why don't you like her? Why doesn't anyone like her? Am I only one who doesn't see a flaw in her?"
Mom pursed her lips then sat down in a chair that was in front of my desk. "Aiden she's your mate. You'd never see a flaw in her but something isn't right about that girl. I can feel it and it bothers me just like it bothers everyone else. Everyone just doesn't want to see you get hurt."
Mom gave me a small smile but I couldn't find myself smiling back.

Adrianna's POV
Angrily, I tossed the Murdock root on my table. Yet another attempt, failed. I stood up, and watched out the window in front of me. I can't continue my life like this. Lying to my mate, lying to myself that I could ever lead a normal life. There has to be a way out of this. A way that could finally free me of my internal prison within myself and a way that could let me be with Aiden in peace.
I stared at the glowing yellow eyes that stared back up at me in the forest darkness. It no longer scared me, but it was a constant reminder....
That I was running out of time.
