Chapter 7

1402 Words
NIKKI It’s Monday, and as usual, if it’s Monday, I need to be early since we have meeting with sports club. "Good morning boys and girls!" our coach greeted us with so much enthusiasm and it’s kind of alarming. It’s either he has a favor, or we need to train all day for the sportsfest. “Hi, coach!” some of my teammates did greet back. “Well, as you all know, our dean moved our sportsfest next month, so wee need to practice and train—” blah blah blah. I knew it. He wouldn’t be that enthusiastic if we don’t need to do something for him. Of course, he would want us to win since we would have more budget for everything if that happens. “And as always, the winners will compete for regionals, nationals, and if ever, the Olympics. So, I need your full cooperation, and we have one week to recruit new players and then train them. Nikki,” oh that’s my name. “You’re in charge with badminton. And Ali, you’re for the volleyball team.” he said, and we don’t have any choice but to agree. "Okay, coach!” we said in unison, but both of us are rolling are eyes. Another blah-blah from him, and we’re dismissed. We immediately went to our classroom since our class is about to start. My friends and I were chitchattin’ about the sportsfest, when we saw Faye entered the classroom. I saw her looked at me, so I smiled at her. Ali and Meimei gave me a curious look, and Jenny was just smiling when she saw our friends’ reactions. “Nikki, are you really that nice with everyone? I mean, it’s the first time that I saw you smiling to a new girl.” Mei-mei asked and I chuckled. “Of course not! That’s gross!” I replied and then she looked at Faye who’s still smiling at me. "Then why did you smile to that new girl? You don’t even know her and you’re being nice to her. That’s so not you!" she was really curious. I looked at Jenny and both Ali and Mei-mei were flabbergasted when we laughed out loud! Oh my gosh, this is so funny! “Nikki—” “What?” “Stop this nonsense. Just tell us why you’re being nice to her.” I can hear annoyance from Allison’s voice. “Don’t you recognize her?” I asked them and they both shook their heads. I looked at Faye and asked her to sit near beside us. She obliged and smiled at Allison and Mei-mei. I knew that she heard what we were talking about and she knew that our two friends didn’t recognize her. "Hi Ms beautiful" si Allison. “Really Allison? Are you really flirting with this girl? And just for the record, you can flirt with anyone but me, and this girl.” I told her. The nerve, Faye is just for my brother, okay? Yep, just for Milo. "Oh my God, Niks! Don't tell me that this girl’s your girlfriend?!" Allison was smiling from ear to ear. Ew! I slapped her at the back of her head. “Nikki, that hurts! If she isn’t your girlfriend, why don’t you want me to flirt with her?” she asked again, and I rolled my eyes. First of all, I’m straight and I can’t imagine myself falling in love with a girl. And lastly, my brother is in love with Faye, so it won’t happen, EVER.   FAYE Yep, answer the question, crushie. Why don’t you want Allison to flirt with me? Are you jealous? Don’t worry, if I’ll be flirting with a girl, it’ll be with you. Ugh! I’m trying to talk to myself again. And why are you even thinking of flirting with Nikki, Faye? She’s your friend, for God’s sake! Well, maybe she also has a crush on me. I see the way she looks at me, and she’s being extra nice to me. In your dreams, Faye! Are you forgetting that she’s straight and she has a boyfriend? And she’s also your best friend’s sister. "Stop being gross, Allison. I don’t want you to flirt with her because my brother likes her, and she likes my brother, back off!” well, that’s the answer that you were waiting for, Faye. She’s not jealous because she likes you. She’s just protecting her brother’s ‘girl’. "Milo? I thought he’s in love with that granny Faye?” oh wow, thanks for the compliment, Mei-mei. Was I really that old-looking for the makeover? Jenny and Nikki both laughed because of Mei-mei’s comment. Really, girls? “Okay fine. To stop you two from thinking stupid things, I’d like you to meet our new friend, Honey Faye Alix." Jenny was the one who said that because Nikki was still laughing. And just like Nikki’s reaction the other day, both girls were shocked, and was just looking at me. Was I really that ugly back then that’s why they didn’t recognize me? “Really? Faye, is that you? I didn’t know that you’re that pretty!” it was really different when Nikki was the one who said that. I felt my heart fluttered when she said that I was beautiful. “Thank you, Allison.” I smiled at her and was about to go back to my seat, but I heard Jenny call my name. “Why don’t you sit here beside us? Don’t worry, we don’t bite.” she smiled and winked at me. I smiled and nodded. "So, Niks. What are we gonna do now? When will we start the tryouts? Do you have time for it?" Allison asked. “Right. I almost forgot about it. And yep, it’s fine. I can make time for the tryouts and training. So, are we doing the badminton first, or volleyball?” Nikki answered. Milo told me that Nikki was a badminton player. Oh wow, she really can do everything. Why is she this perfect? She’s really my girl crush! C’mon Faye! Stop dreaming about it! Don’t forget that you’re in love with Milo, and you’re just confused about this Nikki thing. “Faye, are you still with us?” “Huh?” I snapped out of my daydream and saw that the four were laughing at me. Oh wow, am I their clown? “Girls, you have to know that Faye always does that. She does day dream a lot, and sometimes, she fights with her inner self. Cute, right?” Nikki said before I could say something. And there’s that cute wink again. Ugh! How can I focus if she’s like that? “Yeah yeah, laugh all you want. And you were saying?” I asked. “We’re asking you if you want to try out for the badminton team. Milo told me that you’re good at it and you like playing it.” Nikki was the one who answered. “I’m not sure. I’m not a professional or whatsoever. I just like playing the sport. I’m not sure if I’m a varsity material.” I said not wanting to disappoint Nikki. “Don’t worry, I’ll be there and I’ll make sure to teach you whatever you need tomorrow. I’ll wait for you in the gym at 9 am, okay?” and of course, her infamous wink again. I sighed and gave her a nod. How can I say no to her request? Uh-oh, you’re really in big trouble.
