Liking Kimmie

1804 Words
River POV I was shocked to see and know that Kimmie and I were just a wall apart. I didn’t know why, but I find her very charming. She is indeed beautiful and the best of it all, she’s nice. Ryder followed me inside my room and I let him. “What’s with you and Kimmie?” Ryder mimicked me, saying Kimmie’s name with emphasis. He plunged on my bed before kicking off his shoes. “You are not charmed by her? That’s a first.” I said jokingly at him. I looked around my room to check for things that I still have to do. I have partly unpacked my things this morning since we were early. But I had to go down the front hall and greet incoming students. I didn’t know how we were able to miss Kimmie. “I admit that she is beautiful. Don’t tell me you would want her to be your mate. You can’t do that. We have our fated mate coming. And she’s a witch! Ugh! I can’t wait to be eighteen!” I shook my head at Ryder. “What’s wrong with being a witch?” I asked as I continued where I left off with my unpacking. “You can’t wait to be eighteen and meet our mate but you’re screwing half the girl population in the academy. Stop it before you get to hurt our mate.” “Are we going to share a mate? Or we get one each?” He sat up and suddenly became serious. Or maybe curious. “I don’t know. From what I have researched, a mate is usually shared by twin alphas. But there were rare cases of having one each. But don’t worry because I could share.” I was to mock Ryder with a grin but when I looked at him, he just threw a pillow hard on my face. I caught the pillow before it hit me. Werewolf reflexes. “Oh, f**k. A threesome! Why don’t you come with me one time and let’s try banging a girl together?” He wriggled his eyebrows at me. “No! No way I will have s*x with any other girl besides our mate, Ryder.” I frowned at him before throwing the pillow back to him. “What? We could do Kimmie’s step-sister. What’s her name again? Aliyah? She seemed easy.” “It’s Alice. And Ryder, please stay out of trouble. Dad wouldn’t want to have any problems, much more with another kingdom.” “Aye aye, Mr. President!” He playfully saluted at me before standing up. “Well, I wonder how a human like Alice got a witch step-sister.” “It could be awkward to ask, Ryder. Tread carefully. And where are you off to?” Ryder was about to walk out of my room. I asked in case he will be out causing trouble. He has a knack for it. “To my bedroom and do some unpacking.” He was frowning but then his face lit up. “Or I could probably find someone to do that for me.” “Ryder,” I said in a warning. “Just kidding!” He raised both his hands before going out. I was then left on my own and eventually done in a jiffy. Looking at the clock, I still have lots of time before dinner. I decided to take a long shower and check on Ryder after. He might probably need some help unpacking.     And so, I have showered and I was right that Ryder needed some help unpacking. I finished it for him so he could already take a shower before dinner. As we got out of his room, I stopped him. “Let’s see if Kimmie would like to join us.” “What? You would like her to hang out with us?” “Why not?” I started off to her room. I could feel Ryder hesitating but he eventually followed. I knocked on Kimmie’s door and waited. I tried to listen and I could tell she was still in the room. I could listen to her heartbeat all day. Was Ryder correct? Do I want Kimmie as my mate? Our mate? After a few seconds, Kimmie did not open the door nor did I hear her move from inside. Ryder did the knocking and sounded like he was impatient. He rapped at the door in quick successions. “Hey,” I whispered to Ryder. I was afraid he could frighten Kimmie. She could be wary in opening the door since she knew she’s in the boy’s dormitory. “She’s probably asleep,” Ryder whispered back, which I found funny. “No, she’s awake. Couldn’t you hear her heartbeat?” In a second, the door opened with Kimmie showing only her head out of the door. “I told you she’s still awake.” Ryder rolled his eyes at me. “Hi, Kimmie. We were just on our way to dinner. Perhaps you would like to join us?” “Oh.” She looked hesitant. “I’m actually…about to go to bed?” “Huh? Is there something wrong? Are you okay? Are you feeling alright? Do you have a fever?” I became worried. I took a step forward and then I placed my hand over her forehead. When my palm touched her forehead, I felt warmth go through my entire body. It was the same warmth that I felt earlier. I wonder if Ryder felt the same? But shouldn’t it be sparks for mates? Too early to tell. I shrugged the feeling aside as I try to figure out if Kimmie is sick. But her temperature feels normal and she looked okay to me. For a hot-blooded male like me. I stepped back as she was to speak. “No, I’m okay. I’m just feeling tired. We have traveled very early and the tour around the school took a bit of my energy.” She was looking at both of us apologetically. “She doesn’t want to eat. Come on.” Ryder muttered to me. “She has to eat something,” I said firmly. I can’t have her going through the night hungry. “I’ll go ahead then. I want to check out the crowd early.” Ryder walked away without waiting for my answer. “I apologize for Ryder’s behavior. He’s just excited to see our other friends.” Ryder’s behavior was embarrassing. I try as much as possible for Kimmie not to think lowly of my brother. That would be a bad reflection on me, too. “Hey, no need to apologize.” I didn’t know why I was still standing out here. If she didn’t want to go to dinner, I could already leave, right? But I have this feeling of not wanting to leave. “Dinner would be a great time for you to feel the vibe of the academy. The activities for this weekend will be announced there. But if you can’t manage to go, I will just bring you food. Will that be okay with you?” “Oh no! No need for you to do that!” I frowned a bit at her refusal. “Fine. I’ll join the dinner. But I will have to change clothes.” “That’s great! I’ll wait for you here.” I smiled at her and she smiled back at me. She gently closed the door as I continued to smile. “You look like a dork. Quit it.” I turned my face to the side to find Ryder coming back. “Hey. Why did you come back?” “I need my sidekick when I go inside the dining hall.” He said as he shrugged his shoulders. “I couldn’t face the fans alone. They will be all over me. I need help.” “Right.” I laughed at the thought. A few girls here in the academy could get crazy. There were at least five girls who were known to follow both of me and Ryder last year. Even Ryder was annoyed at them because they can be very persistent. Some were subtle, so at least we find them harmless. The principal had to put two of the crazy ones in suspension because they had started to stalk us. They even went to visit us in our kingdom during the winter holidays last year. The last straw was them being able to go inside our dormitory rooms without us knowing. We found out when they left their scent inside our rooms. Fortunately, those two have graduated last school year. We only had to face the remaining three. And hopefully, there will be no more of them. “Would you rather have Suzette or these rowdy girls?” I asked Ryder jokingly. Suzette is our best friend’s sister. She was all crazy towards the two of us, but we did not heed to her advances. She would always try to lure us into dating her before the school started to the embarrassment of her brother. It was a good thing that they go to a different school so we have one less crazy girl to hide from. “No one! They are all crazy!” Ryder snorted. “Suzette is something else you know. I can’t believe she thinks that she’s our mate.” “Yes. She can be delusional. Dad should put a restraining order on her. But what if she is? Would you acknowledge her as our Luna?” I tried to challenge Ryder. “No. She can’t be our mate. I don’t see her as a mate. I can only see her as our sister.” “Same, bro. Same.” Ryder and I started to talk about training. We only stopped when we heard the door opening and closing. We turned around and saw Kimmie standing in front of us. I felt Ryder stiffened as if he was entranced by Kimmie’s beauty. I nudged him at his side and then I smiled at Kimmie. Her soft golden wavy hair was pinned on both sides, showing us her stunning facial features. She had a blush on her cheeks and I was happy that I or we had brought that on her. Her plump lips were stretched up into a sweet smile. She looked amazing. “I’m sorry to have kept you waiting.” She then looked at Ryder. “Hi, Ryder. You’re back.” Ryder cleared his throat and did not speak. “Let’s go?” I would have like to hold her hand or offer her my arm, but she might feel awkward. It was anyway our first day meeting each other. “Let’s go.” She nodded and off we go.
