8. I’m not the type to snitch

BECKY POV When a good day means only throwing up two times before noon, it brings everything into perspective. I can’t help but feel lucky. The fresh air in my lungs, and the beautiful view in front of my face. Who cares that every squirrel I try to photograph runs back home while damming me to hell for bothering him. How they know I’m stalking them from as far away as I am is a wonder. Every other creature I’ve captured drinking from the lake or grazing on some greenery pays me no mind unless I make a shifty move. I specifically chose a spot that not many people come to so that I could be alone to enjoy the sounds of the water rushing past, the birds chirping away, the rustling of the bushes and breaking of twigs. Wait… what? I looked around frantically because that much ruckus was not made by anything small and cute. When my eyes landed on the culprit, I knew my day was about to take a bad turn. “We had a complaint about a little girl wandering by the lake. I was sent to make sure she didn’t fall in.” Mr. Scowly chuckled at his poor attempt at humor. I’m not going to ask what I did in my past life to deserve this man’s wrath. Not only because I’ve definitely done plenty, but because I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Next time you want to be a smartass, remember that karma can come in the form of a six-foot pain in the ass. “As you can see I’m not a little girl and I’m perfectly fine. Thank you for your concern though.” I’ve decided killing him with kindness would be my best approach today. From the look on his face, he dislikes it more than when I fight back. Interesting. He started to walk close and I started to become acutely aware that I was alone in a secluded place with a man two times my weight. “Most prey knows to show a healthy amount of fear and respect for a predator.” He sneers and my feet reach the edge of the lake. Two more steps back and I’m going in. Although the water is relatively calm and I know how to swim, I’m not trying to dive in. It’s clear he’s trying to intimidate me. I took one step forward, bringing myself inches away from him. “Do I look like a bunny to you!? Take two big steps back right now before I attack your shins.” I gritted through my teeth. Quirking an eyebrow at me, he took one step back and then lunged forward, causing me to stumble back and fall into the lake. I was close enough to the edge that all it did was get me wet and piss me off. His maniacal laughter as he walked away waving goodbye was the seal on the coffin that housed my good day. Since I had walked here, that meant I had to walk all the way back looking like a wet cat. I didn’t bother going home because I was ripe with rage and I needed to yell at someone. I went directly to the ranger’s office where I found several handsome forest dwellers looking up at a map. When the door slammed shut behind me, they all turned and looked me up and down. The second one of them almost smiled, I growled at him in warning. I had never seen so many grown men scurry away. “Are you okay ma’am, are you hurt?” Supervisor Harvey asks while looking me up and down, checking for injuries. “You are the supervisor, right?” I stated the obvious, his name tag gave him away the moment I walked in. He nodded his head but a worried look followed. “Normally, I’m not the type to snitch. I wasn’t brought up that way. I am more than capable of defending myself against arrogant douche bags with delusions of grandeur.” I take a deep breath and remind myself that he isn’t the i***t I want to kill. “I don’t…” I held my hand up to silence him. “One of your rangers finds it amusing to give me a hard time. I can handle that. What I won’t stand for is a grown man using his size to intimidate me into a lake for his amusement. You need to tell him to stay the fu*ck away from me before I punch him in the d**k. I’m the perfect height to effectively sterilize him.” I’m shaking, I’m so mad at this point. “Ranger Brand?” He asks and instead of feeling relief that he knows who I’m talking about, my blood pressure goes through the roof! “The fact that you know exactly who I’m talking about only proves you know he has no business walking around here with any kind of authority. This is my formal complaint and believe me, there will not be a second. I’m getting myself a Taser and some pepper spray. I will not stop until it runs out of charge and the can is empty the next time he is anywhere near me.” I took the pen from the supervisor’s front shirt pocket and took a paper from the desk, writing my name and number on it. Storming out, I headed towards my house. Walking seemed like such a good idea this morning. I could never have guessed my chonies (panties) would be wet and riding my crack on my way back. ALPHA LUKE POV It’s only been a few days since I spoke with Alpha Adam and he has yet to challenge me for my pack. In fact, everything is eerily quiet on that front. I could take that as a victory, but I know better. He wouldn’t have bothered coming all the way over here to simply give up so easily. My father hasn’t shown his face since we last spoke and my mother has been helping me by doing her normal Luna duties. Each of them has their own way of dealing with what's happening. There is a knock at my door and Jordan walks in after I give him the okay. “Alpha, our problem child has struck again.” He rolls his eyes, handing me a formal complaint that came in today. It’s pretty vague but it definitely merits further investigation. I decided to call the woman who put in the complaint and get more information. I need to give Trevor a detailed explanation of why he will be moved back into the pack as a warrior. Jordan took a seat as I dialed the number on the form. “What!” A little voice growled adorably at the other end. “Can I please speak with Becky Ruiz?” I asked cautiously. From the sound of her agitated state, I’m sure it’s her, but I have to ask. “Who is this?” She asks suspiciously. “I’m Luke Sensmeier, I received a complaint from Supervisor Harvey, regarding Ranger Brand.” It’s always hard when I have to get involved. I’m not anyone of authority within the state or even the city. We are lucky enough to have someone high up who’s a wolf, but that only gets us so far. I have to be careful not to pose myself as anyone with a title. “That asshat!” She snaps and goes on to tell me everything leading up to what happened today. The harassing, intimidating and damn near stalking. What he did today could have gotten her hurt. We are supposed to be protecting the humans in the cities that surround our pack, not putting them at risk or using them for our amusement. “Es mejor que hagan algo antes de que me vuelva loca y le diga a mi hermano. Se lo va a chingar! Lo va a matar!” (You had better do something before I go crazy and tell my brother. He’s going to f**k him up! He will kill him!) I don’t think she really expected me to understand that last part but I could tell it was a threat. “She’s feisty.” Art chimed in with amusement. “I’m really sorry for what’s been happening and what happened today. I will be taking care of it personally; you won’t see him around anymore.” I assured her. “Mas vale!” (You better!) She said through gritted teeth and hung up. I had to admit that instead of feeling threatened, which is what she clearly wanted, I was a little aroused. It wasn’t that she was mad, although that added to it. She sounded so passionate and sassy. Even though I’m sure she was telling me to fu*ck off or something of that nature. As much as I wanted to call her back and find out what she was saying, Jordan was looking at me curiously and we needed to get Trevor back to the pack so that he could be properly reprimanded.
