Chapter Five Day Two The sad truth about sleeping in the jungle was the nightmares that invaded Olivia’s sleep. Perhaps it was the cawing nightbirds, perhaps sleeping without a mattress on the cold ground, perhaps just the anxious circumstances into which she’d been thrust that caused such turmoil in her psyche. Her dreams took on the same disturbing substance that she experienced between the time she fell asleep on the plane and later awakened in this living nightmare. There were curiously pleasant moments where she dreamed vividly of Miami, its sandy beaches and bright sun—the rising surf, the taste of exotic foods, the sounds of laughter and dancing and midnight revelry—the very things that she should have been enjoying.
