Marshals p.o.v
"Please tell me a little bit about her, I'm dying to know," John said curiously in my office.
I wanted to order him to get back to work but I couldn't, for the first time in my life I just wanted to talk to my best friend at work, not as his superior but as his equal.
"Well I have met a lot of people in my life but no one quite like her, she is different from all the ladies I have ever met, man she's very beautiful, funny, and interesting," I said as John laughed Softly.
"I have never seen you act like this over a girl Max, this is my first time, I should admit I like the new you now not that old you we all know and fear," he answered with a smile.
I stood up and glared at him.
"Just because I'm a f*****g cop, it doesn't mean I'm not human," I said seriously then picked up my jacket and wore it.
"Look chief, all I'm saying is that I have never seen you this happy before, you are always serious and scary," he answered.
"Do you want to die?" I asked Softly.
I had no time for his weird questions, today was my date day with Nike so I made sure everything was handled, giving me enough time to go on my wonderful date.
"No," he quickly responded with his hands in the air.
"Then stop taking advantage of my good mood just to tell me shitty things," I ordered.
"See chief that's exactly what I mean, you are truly a serious short-tempered person," he answered.
"I hope you don't think of me as an old man, do you?" I asked.
"No, no, no, I didn't mean it that way," he answered.
"It's OK, let's just get back to work, so do you have the lab result?" I asked calmly.
"Yes chief, the couple was burnt alive, it looks like the past gang is back, the DNA proves it was Mr. Cian and his wife," he answered.
"Handle the remaining files, I have somewhere to be, we will talk later okay," I said then walked out of the office with him.
"You know what to do right?" I asked then locked the office and put the keys in my pocket.
"Yes sir," he answered.
I quickly went outside and got in my car then drove off, in no time I was at the restaurant, I came out of the car and closed the door.
"Don't mess it up by telling her what you do," I whispered then walked in.
Nike sat at the far end of the window looking so gorgeous, when I called her and told her how I was looking forward to meeting her in the evening she sounded very happy and cheerful, we wanted to at meet at the same place we were that day but I changed my mind and chose another place and specific time, she wasn't very happy about it but later agreed when I told her how quiet and decent the place was.
I walked to her and cleared my throat when I reached her table, she quickly looked at me and stood up with a smile.
"Hey," she whispered.
"You look amazing," I said while leaning in then kissed her cheek and sat down with her.
"Thank you, Marshal, I really like this place," she said with a smile.
"Have you ordered?" I asked.
"No, not yet," she answered.
I nodded then sighed loudly.
"Are you alright?" she asked surprising me.
"Yes, why?" I asked.
"You don't look very happy to be here," she said.
"I am happy Nike, it's just that I'm a bit tired and stressed, I have a serious case to handle and I have a lot going through my mind," I answered.
"Case?" she softly.
"Yes, last week a couple was burnt alive to the extent of being unrecognizable,", I answered as she widened her eyes.
"Burnt alive?" she asked.
"Yes and my partner confirmed our suspicion today, it was Mr cian the owner of the ORB bank, he was burnt first then his wife, but sadly their daughter is still missing and I'm having a lot of pressure wracking my brain to find her and...," I stopped then groaned loudly when I realized I had said too much.
That was one of the problems I faced, I forgot about keeping my mouth shut and ended up telling the ladies I was on a date with about my real job, most of them instantly dumped me after a while of dating while some I dumped them.
"You are a cop?" she asked in shock.
There was no reason to hide the truth or keep on pretending, she needed to know the truth.
"Yes Nike, I am," I answered.
"And you are telling me this now?" She asked.
"I'm sorry, I thought my work didn't matter," I answered.
"s**t," she whispered then stood up and walked out of the restaurant.
"Not again," I whispered to myself then got my phone from my pocket and called John.
"Sir," he answered.
"You have 15 minutes to get your ass here," I spat.
"Where?" He asked.
"The f*****g restaurant you recommend," I answered then cut the call.
"Sir," a tall blonde called.
"Yes," I answered Softly.
"Can I get you something to drink?" She asked.
"Yes, one bottle of whiskey or wine would do right now," I answered with a smile.
"Coming right up," she answered then walked away.
I sighed sadly then brushed my hands through my hair, I still couldn't understand why I was mostly dumped by the women I was interested in, I thought ladies loved men in uniforms.
I looked at my wrist watch then took it off and put it on the table.
"Your whiskey sir," the lady said when she brought it.
"Pour me a glass," I ordered not caring if I sounded like a jerk, she smiled then did.
"Thank you," I said.
She turned and walked away when I picked it up the glass and took a sip.
John quickly walked in and approached me.
"Max," he called Softly.
"Sit," I said.
He nodded then sat down.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"She left," I answered then gulped down the whole liquid that was in the glass.
"Don't punish yourself like this chief, at least stop drinking and eat something," he said.
"No John, I'm not hungry, I just couldn't believe the way that she left, she walked away just like that, without a word, this is the third time that a lady has left me like this, I thought she was different from every woman I had ever met," I said sadly.
"Did you fall in love Max?" He asked.
"I don't know, what if I did," I answered.
"Then it's sad, I have always told you Max, ladies at times find cops well umm.... really too serious, they only like how we look good in our uniforms," he said.
"But..." I trailed off.
"She looked different right, I know, you should have just kissed her goodbye because she's never coming back," he said as my heart ached.
"Who isn't?" Nike asked.
We both quickly looked up at her in shock.
"Nike," I called in a whisper.
"Yes," she answered.
"Will you please join us?" John asked.
"Sure," she answered then sat down.
"I should say you are pretty, no you are beauti...,"
"Stop it," I warned cutting him off.
"I'm sorry that I had to walk out just like that, I needed fresh air," she said.
"Damn right you should be, he was about to drink himself to death," John answered.
"John," I warned.
"What, I'm trying to tell her the truth and let her know exactly what you could have done," he answered.
"John, weren't you suppose to be somewhere looking for the girl's location?" I asked seriously.
"But Chief," he whined.
"Get lost John," I said seriously.
"Okay fine, I will take my leave, it was nice meeting you Nike," he said while standing up.
"It's was nice meeting you too," she answered.
He looked at me for a second then walked out.
"Don't mind him, that's John my best friend, he likes to joke around," I said nervously.
"So was he lying when he said you could have drunk yourself to death?" she asked seriously.
"Um...not really, I usually drink a lot when I'm very upset, sad, or hurt," I answered.
"Then let's go out tonight at Jeffrey's pub and grill to have dinner, relax and have a drink just the two of us," she said.
"Are you sure about that?" I asked.
"Yes, and I also want to apologize for leaving you like that, it's definitely not because you are a cop, I didn't really feel well, I had a headache and I needed some air," she answered.
"That's a relief, I thought you left because I was a cop, Nike, why didn't you tell me about your headache?" I asked curiously.
"I thought that I might collapse again, and you might have taken me home, I'm really sorry," she said then held my hands on the table.
"It's OK, you know what, it feels like we have known each other for a long time," I answered.
"So tell me about the case, I promise I won't walk away, it seemed like you needed someone to lend an ear," she said as I smiled.
She really was very much different from other ladies.
I wanted to tell her everything but I couldn't, not only was I being so unprofessional it would go against everything I believed in as a cop.
"I just want us to talk about something that doesn't relate to my lame work, so please tell me more about you," I whispered.
"Okay," she answered with a smile.
