Chapter 6: Escape and Betrayal Alex froze when he realized they’d been found out, but Kasinda’s mind worked faster—or perhaps she’d just had more experience in tight scrapes. “Hey, what’s the matter, mister?” she said. “We didn’t hurt anything. We were just spooking around in here, that’s all.” The Darillian was not convinced of her innocence, however, and the muzzle of his beampistol never wavered from their direction. “How much did you see?” he asked suspiciously. “Nothing, honest,” Alex chimed in. “We come in here all the time, and we never see anything.” There was a flicker of doubt in the Darillian’s eyes.
