Heaven Venezia:- I waited for Giovanni to speak, making my heart race with hope that after looking at his daughter, his weakness, he must have remembered something, a memory he shared with her. Giovanni looked quite puzzled, and his eyebrows knit together, as he looked back and forth from Gabriella to me. "I... I don’t know," He said hesitantly and his tone was quite low. "It just... came to me. Like it was something I was supposed to say. Like I’ve always said it." Gabriella was quiet still holding to him, her face buried in his chest too and tears continued to roll on her cheeks. Giovanni’s hands brushed through her hair comfortingly, the way he had done before before everything went wrong. The mist seemed to stay in his eyes as if he could not accept the fact that he had a daughter. He still has got to meet Lorenzo, but it can wait as he is just one, and barely remembers any memory of his father but his one-year-old self recognizes his father's face. That's all it matters, but Gabriella. She is sensitive and remembers everything and needs to be tackled carefully. Especially when she has an intelligent mind like her father's. Which is not so intelligent at the moment due to his lost memories. I slid down to the ground next to them, my chest pounding fiercely as the last shred of hope flickered in me, the hope which told me that maybe, there is still something left in him, something that was not erased. "Gio, you always called her that," I whispered, my throat choked with tears. "You gave her this special endearment. Only you used to call her by this name. No one else." He turned to look at me then, and for the barest of seconds, he looked almost haunted, almost like he remember… an event or a piece of memory he shared with his daughter "I don’t know why I remembered that," he said to himself with a slight frowning, confused and so many lost emotions "But it feels right. As if…as if I should know her. Like I should know you." I grabbed his hand, and mine was on top of it. "You do know us, Giovanni. And, deep down, you still recall us. It is just concealed underneath the suffering, but the feeling is definitely present. You just have to fight through it. I told you about Lorenzo but it's his bedtime so he must be sleeping in his nursery at the moment. You can see him later." Gabriella let go of the hug and searched her father’s face with her large, wet eyes as she wiped them. "Papa, are you okay?" she said softly, her tone containing the pureness of a question that only a child can portray. Giovanni looked at her and grinned, there was a sorrowful look that he yearned for something he could not touch. "I will be, principessa. I promise." Matteo and Lucianna stood in the corner of the room watching this sentiment moment between father and daughter. I rose back to my feet and spoke. “Giovanni “ I softly stated but firmly, "You might not remember everything right now, but you need to know that you are still the man I love. You are still Gabriella and Lorenzo's father. And we are going to survive this. I will stay by your side up to the moment when you recover and even after that, I promise because we vowed to be there for one another in our marriage. Through sickness and in health. For better and for worse. I didn't just share those vows with you for nothing, I shared them because I meant every single one of them and now I am going to prove it to you. I know you need time and you have it because I am not going anywhere. None of us are. We all are here for you and always will be, with memories or not." Giovanni got up and Gabriella kept clutching his hand with a beautiful smile painted on her face. He smiled and looked at her, then turned his gaze at me, and for the first time since his return, I noticed a change in him. "Thank you. Thank you for trying and not giving up on me." he spoke "I know it must be hard on you, but you are hiding it for me." "I won't lie that it is not, because it is, but as I said, I am not going anywhere and I won't give up on you." I tell him and nod at Rick and the nanny beside him "Rick, take Giovanni to the bedroom and give him some clothes to wear and freshen up, and Melody, please take Gabriella to her bed. It's past her bedtime." "But, mommy. I want Papa to tuck me to the bed tonight. He hasn't touched me for a very long time." Gabriella pouted and looked at Giovanni with pleading eyes "Can you please tuck me to bed, papa, and read me bedtime stories like you always do?" "Ella, my precious daughter. Papa is tired today and needs his rest. I will come and tuck you to bed tonight and I promise Papa will tuck you and read bedtime stories to you tomorrow." I tell Gabriella who shakes her head in denial and hugs Giovanni's feet, refusing to let him go. I opened my mouth to speak when Giovanni spoke. "It's alright, Heaven. I will tuck her to the bed and read her bedtime story, but I don't know where her room is," he spoke in a sad tone when Rick stepped forward and smiled. "Come on, I will take you with her," he said and took Giovanni and Gabriella with him. Once Giovanni was gone, only then did I let myself sit on the couch, place my elbows on my legs, and burst out crying hiding my face behind my palms. "It hurts! It hurts, Mom and Dad. It hurts so bad." I cried "I...I found him, but he doesn't remember me, his children, or anyone." when Matteo and Luciana saw me crying, they were instantly by my side and sat on my side. Luciana placed her hand on my trembling leg and Matteo placed his hand on my back and rubbed it to calm me down. "Oh, darling." she spoke "I know. I know it is a really hard time for you than us. And, I know you must be feeling it's unbearable because it is, but you are Giovanni's wife. A strong woman, the only woman who is capable enough to handle him. So, what if he doesn't remember now, but he will? He loves you more than anything, Heaven. Didn't you see that he wasn't showing any signs of trust in us, or any connection towards us, but you? Even in his current state, his eyes were only fixed on you, like he knew you were his rock and his savior. Heaven, he doesn't trust anyone but you, so please be strong for him, because you are our only hope. The only person who can fix him and bring back his memories." "What if he...What is he never remembers, Mom? What if he never remembers any of us ever?" I asked out of fear. "He will remember, Heaven. He will." Matteo spoke, in a confident tone "He remembers you, and deep down he remembered Gabriella that is why he called her Principessa. It means there is hope, then we should keep holding on to that hope and pray for the best. Now wipe those tears and stand up, because it's no time for you to be weak, but strong. Not just strong but strongest, because now, it's not just Giovanni or your children who are dependent on you only. It's the whole mafia empire. We all depend on you." I frowned when he said that and asked. "Wha...What do you mean by the mafia empire depends on me?" I asked, already knowing what he meant deep down. "It means that you are taking over the Italian Mafia as the new leader." he announced "You are their Donna. You are going to lead and we all are going to follow."
