Heaven Venezia:-
It was a warm night with the smell of the ocean in the air as I felt Giovanni take my hand in his. His fingers gently entwined with mine, the motion more comfortable than strange as we walked along the beach of Grand Cayman Island. The cool wind, the smell of the sea, the sound of the waves gently crashing against the shore. Everything was perfect for the evening and magical.
The diamond necklace on my collarbone, that he gifted me tonight, shone under the moonlight, like a star. Our best friends Cedric and Flora walked a few steps in front of us engrossed in their own discussion but I could only concentrate on the man who was walking beside me.
Giovanni moved closer, and his mouth was so close to my ear that for a second we were lips touching and I could feel his breath on my skin as he said.
"You don’t know how stunning you are tonight, H?" I glanced up at him, noting the mischief in his eyes as the light from the moon playing with the waves shone on him.
I laughed softly, pushing him with my shoulder slightly. "Well, Mr. Venezia you also are not bad yourself," I said although inside my heart was racing; he looked incredibly handsome in khaki trousers, a crisp white shirt, and tousled hair that I knew made him look irresistible.
He arched an eyebrow and further smirked, he said to her. "Pretty nicely, huh?" He countered with a c****d eyebrow, smiling faintly. "Well, I guess I’ve gotta top that, don't I?"
He paused our walk, then embraced me in such a way our bodies were melded together and the warmth from his body electric under the gentle sway of the Caribbean air. Our eyes locked and I could only gasp as he tenderly stroked my face, running his huge fingers over my cheekbone.
"Happy anniversary, my love," he whispered softly for me to hear while touching my skin with his thumb. He gently pressed his lips against my lips, slowly, passionately, enveloping me with a kiss that caused everything else to disappear. For a moment, it was just Giovanni and I, the smell of him, the heat of his body, the taste of his lips against mine.
When we parted, finally, I looked at him and grinned, feeling nothing but the warmth and the happiness inside. "How has it been five perfect years of our marriage already? Every moment with you, I find, has been like five minutes."
"Time stands still when we are together," Giovanni whispered, and I looked into his eyes.
"I tell you… every moment with you is… heaven." I mocked him, he chuckled because he knew this was my favorite line that I always made fun of him for saying.
I rolled my eyes jokingly and laid my head on top of his chest. "You’re incorrigible, you know that?"
"Only with you, Mia Paradiso, only with you" he murmured into my hair and pulled me tighter against his chest. "There is no other person in this world that I would want to spend my life with other than you, H. You and the kids… you are my life. My everything."
His words literally made my heart melt. I stepped back a little and stared into his beautiful eyes, or rather the eyes belonging to a man I fell in love with several years ago. "You are everything to me too, Giovanni. Happy anniversary. Thanks for giving me everything that I didn't know myself I wanted."
Before I could say more, Flora spoke from up ahead. ”Come on, you two lovebirds! You will get a chance to kiss and f**k later, there is this delicious cake that needs to be cut, and lines of drinks waiting on us to get drunk."
I laughed, noticing the delicious heat of the evening gathering in my chest as I held Giovanni’s hand and headed towards the small resort where we had to have a little celebration. It was one of those perfect evenings where one forgets the existence of the harsh world we lived in. We danced and laughed and cut our anniversary cake and for Cedric and Flora to join us and share more stories into the evening.
"Gio, we need to talk about what happened yesterday," I said, in a serious tone when I remembered that manila envelope.
"Lots of things happened yesterday, Mia Paradiso. Which were are you talking about?" Gio asked, calmly trying to change the topic. I know his ways and I am not going to let him slide down this time.
"The envelope with a threat to my and our kid's lives, Giovanni." I reminded him, although he didn't need to be reminded.
"H, we are here to celebrate our anniversary so let's enjoy and forget about everything else. I have that matter handled. You have got nothing to be worried about. You and our children are always going to be safe." he tries to assure me.
"But, what about you, huh? Will you be safe?" I asked, wrapping my arms around him "I am scared, Giovanni. I am not scared of my life and you know that because I know you are there to protect me. What I am scared of the most is losing you. I have got no one in this world except for you and our children after your cousin murdered my father, of course."
"And, you killed him for that. Didn't you?" he reminded "Just relax, H. And let's enjoy this night together."
"Alright," I said resting my head on his shoulder, when his hand came to rest on my stomach and watched an evil smirk form on his face making me laugh and roll my eyes, already knowing the meaning of that.
"You know Lorenzo has turned one, right?" he asked and I nodded with an amused grin "So, shall we plan another baby, Mrs. Venezia? Are you up for it?"
"No!" I refused playfully kissing his lips and walked away to join Flora as I heard him laugh and make promises to put another baby in me.
As the night began to crawl, hand in hand, Giovanni put his arm around my waist and walked me towards the car. I hug him tight, just feeling the rhythm of his heartbeat against my chest. "That was perfect," I whispered, nuzzling into his shoulder.
"It’s only going to get better when I am inside of you” he teased with a lustful smile, darkened gaze, and cupped my face in his hands to place a tender kiss on the top of my head. "I might have another surprise prepared for you."
But before I could decide to interrogate him further, the sound of a car screeching interrupted the calm night. My body tensed as soon as a convoy of several black cars encircled us while their bright headlights flooded the night. Giovanni pulled me closer to him and shielding me, he guided me behind him swiftly.
"Stay down and don't move unless I ask you to," he ordered me in a sinister tone, the playful mood he had earlier shifted to a dangerous one.
"Wha...What's happening, Gio?" I asked terrified as I watched Giovanni’s eyes sweep across the cars as they screeched to a halt, doors flying open as masked men exited, guns drawn.
"An ambush," he grumbled as he took out his pistol from his jacket and passed one to me "Shoot if you need to." just as he said that, the men began shooting, the painfully loud noise of bullets tearing through the air sounded as dangerous as a fierce storm. Giovanni moved me, crouching behind the rock and covering me with his own body while bullets whizzed past.
"Stay here and under no circumstances move from here." Giovanni commanded, his eyes burning with the look of a predator before he leaned down to press his forehead against mine and murmured "I love you, H."
"I love you too, Giovanni. Just be careful,” I said softly as he raised into the distance, pointing a gun at his opponents.
Cedric was already firing back quickly… but was outnumbered. Cedric and Giovanni teamed up and fired away, killing the men, and pushing them down the hill. But there were too many.
Then all of a sudden a masked man emerged out of nowhere, bringing down the painful past memories in front of my eyes as I watched him wink at me, while he walked towards Giovanni. I don't know why, but my heart sank as I felt like something was off because Giovanni was still unaware of his presence.
"Giovanni!" I screamed, but the masked man moved too quickly. He slammed into Giovanni with brutal force, sending him stumbling toward the edge of the hill behind me. I watched in horror as the man delivered the final blow, pushing Giovanni down the hill right in front of my eyes.
"No!" The word tore from my throat as Giovanni disappeared into the darkness. My world crumbled in that moment, the sound of gunfire drowning out the panic rising inside me. I scrambled to my feet, running toward the edge of the hill, but I couldn’t see him. I couldn’t see anything.
"Giovanni!" I screamed, but the masked man moved too quickly. He then attacked Giovanni with all his might and pushed him back to the edge of the hill that was behind me. And I could not even do anything to stop him from delivering the final blow that pushed Giovanni to the side.
"No!" The word erupted from my mouth as if torn from my very soul when Giovanni vanished into the gloom. Everything I knew was gone at that moment, the sound of gunshots eclipsing the hysteria that began to fill my lungs I tried to get on my feet and flee towards the edge of the hill, but I couldn’t find him. I couldn’t see anything. He wasn't there. Giovanni was gone.
"No....no....no! NO! Giovanni....Giovanni!"
