“The only thing I am certain of right now, is that the Axe brothers from Gehenna did come into the party that very day, before they did attack. Now my question remains who they were after, because they wouldn’t go through all these trouble just for a package worth fifty million.” I speak to the room full with audience.
“I agree with Agent Smith, yes it is a lot of money but not for the Axe brothers.” John speaks after me from where he seats, as I do send him a curt nod, before taking my attention back to my colleagues and the SIU, whom are seated in the room for me to brief them on my investigation for the past month on The king siblings.
“Have we thought about the Axe brothers going bankrupt. That could be a standard reason as to why they could act in such a way.” Steve speaks up.
“Of course not, Steve. If it were so, they wouldn’t attack the party and just request for a compensation along with the original shipment, while they use Jacob veloski as bait towards Felicity and Nathaniel, as that way they did find a culprit for them, and they will get paid for it.” Allen reasons earning a nod from me.
“Except if it’s not just bankruptcy.” Agent Kane, the head of the SIU speaks.
“What are you saying Kane?” John speaks next, talking to Angent Kane.
“Agent smith says, the Axe brothers knew about Jacob veloski’s act, and they certainly knew The power couple will find out about him, yet, they did nothing and allowed him to be found. Why so? And of course they knew Jacob veloski will tell them about what they did, if blackmailed with his sister, because if Jacob told them about his sister’s bills, then of course it’s no longer news that he will plead for it again when faced with Felicity.” Agent Kane replies.
“Am I the only one lost here?” Steve stares around dumbfounded as I can only roll my eyes.
“I believe what Agent Kane is trying to say is, the Axe brothers are not just planning something small, which will explain why the culprits found from the party didn’t disclose anything else apart from Jacob veloski.” Jen cuts in.
“Thank you Agent Harrison.” Kane passes Jen a smile. “Exactly. From what you say, Jacob is still alive?” Kane asks me while I nod my head positively. “So this goes two ways. 1) The Package wasn’t the Axe brother target.
2) There is an inside man aside from Jacob veloski.” Kane says making me furrow my eyebrows.
“How can you know that Jacob was the only culprit when we do not know what they are after in the first place?” I question Kane vividly.
“Because if he was, they wouldn’t have let him get caught.” Kane answers and I find myself reasoning his words deeply. “The Axe brothers are planning something and it is left to you Agent Smith to find out what it is, because certainly it not something good. If they can be at king each other for something, we should know something huge is about to go down.” Kane adds. “You say Jacob veloski is till alive?” Kane asks me as my body tense at his question about Jacob.
“Yes.” I answer feigning neutrality of not wanting to show that it is in my plan to have Jacob silenced in order to protect Jen.
“Make sure it stays that way. We’ll need him when times comes.” Agent Kane says.
“Need him for what? And I can’t guarantee that. A little slip from me and I have a gun to my head by Felicity, lest you forget that.” On reflex my tone begins to sound defensive.
“I’m afraid that’s classified information Agent Smith.” Kane responds making me to c**k a brow in defense.
“Classified information?” I ask him again as this time he goes silent. “My f*****g life is on the line here, not yours or anyone else’s, but mine and Jen, yet, you won’t give me a full information of what I’m walking myself into?” I confront Kane, as the whole room goes silent.
“Let’s just say with what you have told us today, Jacob will pay a big part in whatever is to come.” Kane beats around the bush.
“You’re going to give me more than that, else I believe I wouldn’t have to answer to you anymore.” My words come bold, that even Agent Kane stares at me with the audacity I just pulled, yet, Nothing of his words or actions scares me because I know i deserve to know what I’m walking into.
“An order is an order, Agent smith. Don’t forget that and you do not have clearance for that level of information.” Kane’s words comes dangerously warning.
“Good thing I don’t take orders from you.” I counter back having my gaze fixed on him, as I watch him take his gaze off me, and down to John, clearly wanting him to correct me of my words.
“Agent smith, let it go.” John says taking my gaze to go wide, as I turn to him in anguish and perplexity. My gaze lingers on John as I stare hardly at him, regarding the decision he has just given.
“I can’t believe this.” I mutter under my breath, before I drop the file in my hand on the table and leaving the room abruptly, but not before hearing Jen call my name from behind.
“Laura…”
“What?” I snap at Jen, as my head begins to feel hazy at the anger I feel inside. I run a hand through my hair, as I try to muster strength to relive the anguish I feel, while Jen stares at me. “Im f*****g putting my life and my emotions here on the line Jen.” I begin frustrated.
“We all are Laura, and I…”
“Not like I am Jen. My emotions are f*****g being played with, no matter how hard I’m trying. I was put on this job because I know how to handle this best, it doesn’t mean I can’t succumb to it, and all I get is he telling me how part of the operation is classified” I blurt out as Jen stares at me perplexed and worried.
“What is going on Jen? What don’t I know?” Jen moves closer to me as her voice becomes whispers.
“I fear…Jen, I fear this may become more than what I bargained for.” My gaze firm and direct to Jen as I voice to her my biggest fear.
