"Laura..."
The blinding lights of the sun, rays directly into my eyes, retracting my iris and closing back the flesh of eyes on reflex.
Still on reflex, I move my left arm trying to block the excess rays coming through the opening, when a wince escapes my lips and my right arm is brought to support.
"Hey, hey... Take it gently, you're going to open it up again." I hear the voice of Jen, while I feel her help me out and I open my eyes properly as her physique manages to retract the rays.
I wince again, feeling it a bit harder to get up properly. "Ow... This hurts like a bitch." I caress my shoulder while I take in jen's appearance In front of me. She seems to have changed from the black pants I saw her last with, as she is now wearing a grey suit this time.
I stare at her from head to toe, with a furrowed eyebrow, taking in her new appearance. "What? Why are you staring at me like that?" Jen asks now with a smililar look to what I have.
"What happened to your wardrobe, why are you dressing as though you own a company?" My hand goes down from my shoulder.
"Because I'm supposed to be your bodyguard, Aurora Fisher. Have you seem to have forgotten? She says while my stare still remains the same on her.
"And so?" I begin to tease her regardless of my pain.
"Oh my... I can't believe you. What are you trying to say?" Jen scoffs. "Are you saying I can't own a company? Girl let me tell me... I can be dressing like this every day of the year and ..." She begins to talk as a little smile begins to grow on my lips hearing her talk.
"And here I thought you would say I look dead gorgeous." She adds while I chuckle.
"You do Jen, I'm just pulling your legs." I chuckle again as I try to get up.
"What do you think you're doing?" Jen asks me seeing my movements.
"What does it look like I'm doing? Getting the hell up of course." I tell her as a matter of fact not listening to any of her attempts to post me back.
"You have just been shot...Laura," Jen speaks, as when she gets to call my name she speaks it quietly.
"And I know that. So, if I don't get up, not just I who would be the only one shot." I inform her as she goes silent.
I stay silent too running my uninjured hand into my black locks, while I take in the semblance of my environment, which I failed to do since my arrival.
The room, a combination of black and grey, as the mixture of the two colors blend perfectly well together, giving it a dark, yet warm environment.
A well furnished furniture setting of a dressing table and a queen sized bed, along with a red couch placed by the side of the room. The lightening of the room not too bright neither dim, as everything falls just in place, apart from the peeking sun, reflecting through the open window.
Just my taste.
The whole aspect of the room, having a woman taste, but not just any woman, but a woman of high taste and class, a woman carrying the mind of a man, according to the facade we created for Aurora Fisher.
"I know you're just looking out for me, to which I appreciate, but we have no time to waste Jen." I tell her while she only nods.
Jen is always the sensible and relaxed one between she and I. She thinks sensibly and relaxed, while I can be a little irrational at times.
"What's the update?" I ask Jen more seriously. "What of Romeo?"
"Romeo is attended to in a room where felicity is staying, though she's still unconscious, but the nurse Holloway sent says she'll recover soon." She tells me. "Also, he's been waiting for you to wake up, because he doesn't think we're legit and still doubts us." She adds.
"Yeah, of course, of course he would. I would even be more suspicious if he didn't. Now we just have to talk to Holloway on getting Nicotine distribution here." I speak.
"About that, lover boy has been wanting to talk to you as soon as you wake up." Jen says with a smirk on her lips.
"Lover boy? Oh please... What John and I have is just physical and nothing emotional, you know that." I confirm to her while Jen only makes a kind of expression I do not understand.
"What? Why is your face like that?" I ask her.
"My face? How, how is my face?" She pretends.
"Oh please, go shove yourself in Danny's ass." I roll my eyes at her.
"Eww... Ewww laura, that's so disgusting, don't you... Ewww...God I can see you're fully recovered, I'm leaving here already." Jen replies disgustedly, forgetting her earlier tease on me, while I only chuckle.
With her words and I still chuckling, she begins to leave but stops again to turn to me. "That's really gross Laura, ewww. You're disgusting." She adds again making me chuckle the more.
"You started it!" I tell her but she doesn't listen and leaves. Danny is a guy at Palo's cafe, where Jen and I usually get our morning runs of coffee from, and ever since he laid eyes on Jen, he makes lame pick up lines, hoping to attract the fine woman.
Hell, he can't even attract himself.
I pick up my phone laying by the night stand, dialing the first number I see there. Holloway.
"Laura?" Holloway's voice comes through the instant he picks.
"Hey," I reply.
"How are you? I heard of the situation, I couldn't come there because you're under cover..."
"I understand John, no worries." I cut him off. "You don't even have to. Also, it's just an injury to the shoulder, I've been through worse." I tell him.
"Yeah, of course." Holloway remains his professional tone, unlike the worried one he had some seconds back.
"I'm certain Jen would have briefed you on it all. Romeo and felicity are here, which means we could take them right here and now." I tell Holloway knowing we have proof against them.
"No, that would be in vain. We can't put them behind bars just yet, we haven't gotten enough information, especially with the latest event that took place yesterday night, it seems we're not the only one after them." Holloway explains.
"I don't think those people were there for felicity or Nathaniel, I think they were there for Romeo." I inform him.
"Romeo? Why would that be?" He asks.
"I have no idea, but it seems to be all related to some s**t he did before he returned here and I think they followed him." I tell him.
"Another main reason why we can't just arrest them just yet. We're not just after the drug couple Laura, because even if they are gone, another would just get on top." Holloway adds.
"I understand." I answer.
"Then you'll know that you and Jen would have to still be undercover for the main time, till we're able to get something concrete against Romeo himself and more against the couple."
"Yeah of course." I nod my head knowing he can't even see me.
"And you also remember you'll have to win his trust." Holloway adds again, something that I already know.
"We've gone through this, I know what I'm supposed to do." I tell Holloway as after my statement he remains quiet.
"If that is all then, I'll leave you to do your job." Holloway says, but I sense a bit of an undiscovered meaning from his words. "Also, I've made arrangements for some batches of Nicotine to be delivered to Aurora Fisher, which means you and Jen would need to come in for a briefing." Holloway speaks.
"Alright, would do so once we're cleared." I inform him.
"Okay. Good work, Laura." He adds as this time his voice comes low.
"Thanks." I add and after that we hang up. I run another hand through my hair, sighing lightly before I head into the pretence of Aurora Fisher.
"For a moment there, I wondered who the hell you were and why haven't I heard of you." My head turning briskly at the sound of Romeo's voice behind me, as shock washes over me. "But now I don't, because it all makes sense now, why suddenly you're showing your face."
Oh f**k!
