After turning my chair, I came face to face with the twins.
They were two authentic male beauties with perfect, masculine, and well-defined features. My chest tightened under its own weight.
How could I concentrate with two magnificent examples of male beauty in front of me, looking at me as if I were a gazelle they were about to devour?
I struggled to keep my voice from trembling.
"What lesson are we on in the book?" I asked, arms crossed over my chest.
A fleeting gleam crossed the eyes of the two twins.
"The little bunny wants to hide from us, brother."
"She thinks she can escape our questions by burying herself in the class exercise."
"What a shame, brother. I thought she would be a braver bunny."
They had tested my patience enough.
"Do you want me to answer your questions? Fine, I will, but first, I want to see you take out the textbook and a sheet for the class exercise," I responded, still with my arms crossed. "I won't fail this subject because of two brats who can't talk to a girl."
They exchanged a surprised glance, and for a moment, it even seemed like they were reading each other's minds, as one of them diligently took out the book from his bag.
"Is this okay, gorgeous?" he said, placing it on the table.
"You haven't taken out the sheet I asked for, and you haven't opened the book to the section we are in."
I don't know what effect it had on the twins, but it seemed like I had tamed them, as they did what I asked without protesting.
I seized the momentum.
"And you can call me by my name, Sussan. I won't allow you to keep calling me gorgeous, let alone bunny, understood?"
The bolder one, whom I assumed was Ethan, looked into my eyes and without even blinking, wrote my name on the paper he had taken out for the class exercise.
"You have a beautiful name, Sussan."
I had to fake a sneeze to cover my face and prevent them from seeing that I had blushed. As I reviewed the sheet, I saw that they had written their names just below mine.
«Sussan
Ethan
Liam»
"You're not going to write our last names, are you?" I asked.
The other brother snorted.
"The teacher knows who we are. It's not necessary."
"Everyone in this town knows who we are," the first brother added.
"I am part of this town, and I don't know who you are," I said, shrugging and not missing the opportunity they gave me to retaliate.
The two faces darkened. They didn't take my comment very well, and I liked that.
"We can easily correct that, gorgeous."
"I told you my name is Sussan, and I won't tolerate you continuing to call me that."
"You'd better not provoke him, sweetness," the other twin said.
I was about to challenge him when I remembered we had work to do.
"As you wish, shall we do the assignment or not?"
I noticed they exchanged glances again, and in silence, I thought I saw one twin asking the other for some calm.
"We already know the answers to this exercise," the first twin said with barely concealed arrogance.
"Then write them down. What are you waiting for?"
"You're really provoking him, sweetness. I don't recommend you do that."
I frowned and directed my gaze to the first of the twins, the one who had the pen and had written our names on the sheet.
"Is that a threat? What will happen if I provoke you?"
The twin smiled and put his hands behind his neck.
"You've already provoked me enough, sweetness. And I'm sure my brother is provoked by you too."
It took me a few seconds to understand his joke.
"You're such pigs."
They chuckled again at their stupid joke.
"Are you going to write down the answers, or do I have to request a group change?"
I rapped the sheet and took out my pen. I did the same with the book and started writing down the exercise questions.
"We loved the way you washed the truck," the first twin said when he saw me diligently working on the exercise.
"Maybe today we'll come back to the car wash, with our father's car, right, brother?"
"But only if you ensure that you'll be working the afternoon shift."
"I like it when they play hard to get, don't you, brother?"
"That's what I like the most, Ethan."
I looked up, and I felt that name on my lips, with that particular sound, this time spoken with a tone of voice that made me bite my lip.
"Will you be late at the car wash?"
"The little bunny seems to have lost her tongue again."
"What a shame, Liam, because I would have loved to see that pink tongue coming out of her lips."
Hearing their names, I felt paralyzed.
They were rough names, very fitting for their unkempt appearance and always challenging gaze.
I didn't know what was causing these strange sensations in me. I had never experienced a feeling like this before, especially not for two guys, no matter how handsome they were, because I felt it was both, that I liked them equally despite their disparate personalities.
"I don't want to hear a word that is not related to the exercise, understood?"
I was going to insist on forbidding them to call me 'gorgeous,' 'sweetness,' 'bunny,' or any other sexist term, but I didn't want to. Those words sounded charming in their voices, and I was flattered by the way they addressed me.
"You've bothered her again, Ethan."
"It was you, Liam. She can't get upset with me, right, gorgeous?"
"It was both of you, fools."
I noticed Ethan's harsh and raw look on me, and I thought that this time, I had annoyed him.
"That's not the answer to the first exercise."
I checked what I had written, and I realized Ethan was right.
"Do you mind helping me? It's supposed to be teamwork."
Both looked at me at the same time, and my words brought a smile to their faces, forming beautiful dimples on their cheeks, where I would have liked to place my tongue.
I lowered my gaze as soon as that strange idea crossed my mind.
"What's wrong? Are you going to help me or not?" I insisted.
"Okay, beautiful."
"We won't let you do it alone."
"We love teamwork."
"I'm fascinated by threesomes, do you agree with me, brother?"
"Threesomes, yes. They're my favorites. Much funniest than ordinary duos"
I simulated another sneeze to prevent them from seeing the tomato color my face had acquired.
How could they be so forward in front of a girl?
We worked focused for a few minutes, too few for my liking.
"You haven't answered our question, beautiful."
"What thing?"
"Will you be at the car wash this afternoon?"
"I told you we would only talk about work. I don't want to hear anything from you that isn't related to that."
"But we've already finished the work, gorgeous."
I saw Ethan finishing the last of the exercises at that moment.
"Yes, I'll be there, but don't think I'm going to wash any car you bring."
"Why wouldn't you, beautiful?"
"You know that the car wash is ours, right?"
"And that you're obligated to wash the car we bring."
"Then I'm going to quit because I'm not going to do it. I won't wash any car you bring."
"I don't understand why suddenly you're so reluctant, beautiful."
"We did an excellent job as a team."
"In a trio, brother. It was a trio job."
"You're right, brother. It was like we just had a threesome."
I didn't overlook the silly smile they both put on, making them no less charming than they were.
"Because of silly comments like that, I refuse to wash any car you bring to the car wash."
"We promise we won't comment on anything, beautiful."
"We'll stay quiet, bunny, while you wash our car."
"Sure, but that doesn't mean you won't be looking at me, and your looks can be heavier than your words."
They smiled satisfactorily at my confession. Unintentionally, I had told them that I was bothered by the way they undressed me with their eyes.
"Then, you don't like the way we look at you, gorgeous?"
"Because I love watching you, bunny."
I didn't have to answer.
At that moment, the bell rang, and the teacher asked us to leave the papers on his desk. I hurried to grab the sheet and stood up.
"See you this afternoon, charm."
"We'll be at the car wash, beautiful."
I didn't turn to look at them.
You don't know how uncomfortable I felt at that moment, knowing that those two pairs of eyes were scanning my back on the way to the teacher's desk, perhaps imagining what underwear I was wearing at that moment.
I just wanted to leave the classroom and forget about the twins as soon as possible, get them out of my head, even if it was just for a few hours because I was sure they would fulfill their threat and show up at the car wash that afternoon.
I confess that I knew I was playing with fire.
If I truly planned to leave as soon as I turned eighteen, it wouldn't be in my best interest to get involved romantically with anyone, especially not with twins who had girlfriends skilled in judo, and one of them had already tried to rip my arm off. I just needed to be patient, continue flying under the radar, like the normal, ordinary girl I had always been, without drawing anyone's attention.
I was determined to stick to what I had told them, and if, that afternoon, they showed up at the car wash with a car, I would come up with something to avoid being the one who had to wash it.
The day went by normally, and I reunited with Aly in the last hour at school.
"I heard you had a class with the twins," Aly said after I had sat down next to her. "Tell me, how was it?"
I assumed she also knew we had done a group project, so it wasn't worth just shrugging and pretending that nothing had happened.
"They're annoying. Do they do the same with every new girl who comes to school?"
I confess that at that moment, I wanted Aly to answer yes, that it was always the same.
"No. Actually, it's very strange that they're bothering you because they usually are very indifferent to other girls, you know? I even know more than one who would like to be in your place and have one of the twins at least know of her existence, even if it's just to annoy her."
"Well, I'd love to switch places with those girls because I can't stand them anymore."
"Just act indifferent with them, Sussan. You'll see that they'll soon get tired if you don't pay attention to them."
I pursed my lips.
You know that it was impossible for me to stop paying attention to them because, for a reason unknown to me at that moment, the attraction I felt for them escaped my will, and just remembering their names was enough to make me feel pierced by a delicious innocence.
«Sussan.
Ethan.
Liam.»
The list from the class exercise kept coming back to my memory with some insistence.
After finishing that last class, Aly and I left the school together, intending to walk to the car wash when my attention was drawn to a luxury vehicle parked on the opposite side of the street, in front of the school. While it was true that I had already seen several luxury cars driving through the town, all coming from the suburbs and mansions on the road, the person at the wheel of this car seemed to have her eyes on me.
I managed to see that it was a woman between forty and fifty years old, who drove away as soon as she noticed that I had been watching.
"Is something wrong?" Aly asked when she saw me following the car with my gaze.
I shrugged.
In reality, nothing had happened because there was no way I would have caught the attention of a wealthy woman.
Or do you think I did?
I was about to be surprised.
