How did it not cross my mind that the twins could have girlfriends? Well, I had considered that girls would flock to them, but not that they'd have a formal relationship with a girl from school who, aside from having a somewhat toxic personality, is also an expert in judo.
“What do you think you're doing, Chloe?” I heard Aly say, just a few steps away as the blonde was about to dislocate my shoulder. The Sensei approached and joined Aly's reprimand, catching the blonde's attention, who only then convinced herself to let go of me.
“I was just showing the newbie what she can learn, sensei,” Chloe said as she got up, using a voice that was very fitting for her doll-like face. “It wasn't my intention to hurt her.”
I stood up, rubbing my shoulder and hoping the sensei would reprimand the blonde. But I quickly realized the effect Chloe had on the teacher.
“Alright, I understand,” the sensei replied in a completely friendly tone. “But try to be more careful next time, Chloe. For a moment, I thought you were going to break her arm.”
“Of course, sensei, I apologize if I gave the wrong impression.” Chloe's eyes lit up, and her angelic gaze was enough to convince the sensei, who seemed to consider her not only his best student but also a young woman incapable of breaking a cup.
When the sensei turned away, Chloe's eyes dug into mine, and I could almost feel the venom they were dripping.
I didn't even know which of the two twins she was dating, and I had barely exchanged two or three sentences with them, yet I was already her mortal enemy.
Honestly, at that moment, I even felt sorry for her boyfriend because her toxicity was chilling.
“Come, practice with me instead,” Aly gently took my arm, guiding me out of Chloe's reach. I didn't hesitate for a moment to follow her, and the one who was initially paired with Aly became the blonde's partner.
“I don't even know what that was,” I said to Aly when my arm no longer hurt, and I continued the sequence of low blows she was teaching me.
“Well, now you know Chloe; she's one of the twins' girlfriends. The other one is Amelia, but she didn't come to class today.”
“What?!' I exclaimed, my face matching the color of the judogi I was wearing. Each twin had a girlfriend who practiced judo. Could my luck get any worse?
“Yeah, I know how it sounds, and it was probably because one of them saw us at the laundromat yesterday, or someone gossiped to them, but as long as you're not interested in either of the twins, what just happened won't repeat itself.”
I nodded, but then I couldn't help but notice the effect the twins had on me from the first moment our eyes met when their arms held me at the principal's office door.
Just remembering it, I felt a pleasant shiver and something stirring, with pleasure, in my stomach.
“They're identical twins, right?” I stated the obvious, wishing to make some conversation about them with Aly, who seemed to know them well. “How do you manage to tell them apart?”
We were several feet away from Chloe, who was taking her training seriously at that moment, and I considered it impossible for her to overhear us.
Nevertheless, Aly answered in whispers and gestured for me to lower my voice.
“Well, I admit it's a bit tricky at first, but then you realize they have very different personalities.” Aly mimicked a hold with the sole purpose of convincing the sensei of our hard work and sent me to the ground to whisper in my ear: “The more serious one is Liam, and the tougher one is Ethan.”
I swear I could taste their names.
They were so masculine, with an air of ruggedness and rebellion that produced a strange sensation in my legs, which then trembled, making it difficult for me to get up again.
“Since when have you known them?” I whispered, keeping my eyes on Chloe, but the blonde remained focused on tormenting Aly's initial partner.
“Since we were kids, but let's talk about that another time, okay?”
I nodded again, although I didn't understand why Aly didn't want to talk about the twins if Chloe seemed not to be listening to us.
Also, Aly didn't seem to be cowed by the blonde; on the contrary, she had shown herself quite defiant when confronting her. From what I could see, Aly might even have a bit more skill in judo.
We continued the class without mentioning the twins, but just a glance at Chloe was enough for them to invade my thoughts again. I wondered which of the two twins she was dating.
Was it Liam's, the more serious one, according to Aly's words, or Ethan's, tougher and likely more extroverted?
Although I leaned toward thinking Chloe must be Ethan's girlfriend because the blonde seemed more like the type to pair up with a man like him, there was also the possibility that she was with Liam, considering that opposites attract.
It didn't take long for me to wonder which of the two personalities I'd fit with.
Surprisingly, I realized not only that I'd get into serious trouble if I kept going down that path, but also that I couldn't figure out which of the two would attract me more because, for some reason I couldn't identify, I saw myself being cherished between the muscular arms of both twins.
I was glad when the judo class came to an end. I got rid of the uncomfortable judogi and, as I swapped schedules with Aly, I found out I'd have a few more classes with her. We said goodbye with a promise to meet again in the class after lunch, and with a smile on my face, I headed to the science classroom, one of my favorites.
My joy was greater when I saw Chloe heading towards another room, seeming to have already forgotten my existence. But I stepped back when, upon entering the room, my eyes met the twins', both sitting at the back, side by side.
It was worse when they smiled at me, maliciously, as if I had walked into the classroom to make their day.
"Look, brother. She blushes when she sees us watching her. Don't you think she feels intimidated by us?" one of them said, not caring that I could hear them. In fact, that seemed to be their purpose.
"It's a shame that we're intimidating her, because I thought she was one of those who felt confident in herself."
I resorted to simulated indifference, but it was impossible not to hear them when the only available seat was in front of them.
"And she pretends she's not listening to us. That's more pathetic, don't you think?"
"I agree with you, brother. I'd like to hear her voice, even if it's because she's upset with us."
"She must have a lovely voice. Charming. Full of sensuality."
"I think it's more of a hoarse, muted, and timid voice."
"Want to bet, brother?"
I couldn't stand it. They were so annoying. What did they really want? Why did they have to make my life unbearable?
Upon hearing that they were betting about me, I turned, furious.
"Who do you think you are, the two of you? Just because you're together, you think you can intimidate me?"
I knew my eyes were shooting sparks, but the darn jerks laughed in my face.
"You won, brother. Her voice is sensual, even when she's angry."
"Do you really think she's angry? It doesn't seem like it to me. I think we could make her even angrier."
They were such jerks, but I figured out their game and turned my gaze back to the board.
"Hey, beautiful, we'd like to know your name."
"Do you think she'll tell us, brother? I think we've annoyed her enough."
"I want to hear her name while she's angry. You know rough women turn me on even more."
Could I endure that?
Definitely not!
I grabbed my backpack, and as I was about to get up to leave the classroom, the teacher walked in and closed the door behind him.
It was already too late.
I sighed.
"Were you trying to escape, little rabbit?"
"Today we'll have a group activity," the teacher said. "Please, those at the back. Yes, Ethan and Liam, group up with your new partner, the one in front. Be kind to her and explain to her where we are in the book."
I felt like the ground opened beneath my feet.
Could my luck get any worse?
I heard the twins' laughter behind me.
"Come on, partner. Turn your chair so we can explain the latest lessons to you."
