Chapter 7

2255 Words
It was a Saturday and Raquelle and Drake were hanging out at his house. He had promised to give her a demonstration on how his powers worked. So far, she had tried and failed miserably to outrun him in both his wolf and human forms. Raquelle remembered meeting his wolf form. She expected to feel afraid or even a little nervous considering she'd be standing next to a giant wolf. Yet, when he stepped out tentatively in front of her, almost definitely expecting that reaction from her, she found herself excited. The silver eyes of the wolf brought her the same serenity and comfort she felt when she was in Drake's human presence. She stroked and petted his fur that was surprisingly silky soft in her hands. He even gave her a ride on his back through the forest. Although she could tell that he was being gentle so she wouldn't fall, she appreciated the gesture. Raquelle also found out that because Mason was still a child, he wasn't able to shift into his wolf form yet. She learned that a werewolf would have to have turned twelve years of age before being able to undergo their first shift. During Drake's demonstration of his powers, that Raquelle suspected was just an opportunity for him to show off, he lifted off a fallen tree of the ground in the forest. Raquelle's jaw dropped and Drake had a smug smirk on his face at her reaction. He told her about his supernatural hearing and sight and even gave a small demonstration of that too. The part of his demonstration that Raquelle didn't find too pleasing was the part when he wanted to show her his accelerated healing. He gave her a knife and asked her to cut him with it. Even though he tried to reassure her that he'd be fine and he wasn't going to get hurt, she refused. She remembered how he rolled his eyes and groaned when he took the knife from her and sliced the palm of his hand. He didn't flinch but she certainly did. She remembered running to get some bandages when he took her hand and told her to wait and she watched in awe as the wound that was dripping blood, healed itself and became as good as new. “See?", he asked, showing her his hand, a cocky smile on his beautiful face. “Nothing to worry about". She had seen enough after that though and that concluded their demonstration. They were a long way from his house in the forest and he gave her another ride back to the mansion. Mason was out on a playdate with his friends and Violet took that chance to go do some personal stuff for herself. So currently, Raquelle and Drake had the house to themselves. They were curled up on his bed watching Netflix in his room when the door burst in and a beautiful female walked in. She had dark chocolate skin with brown hair that she wore in braids. She had a pair of striking blue eyes that seemed to see deep into your soul. Like Violet, this girl was also very tall and looked like she belonged on a runway somewhere or on the cover of Vogue magazine. “So this is what you get up to these days?" the girl said, a smirk on her face. Drake smiled at her. “It's nice to see you too Jo", he said. The girl gave a cheeky smile then turned her attention to Raquelle. She eyed her from head to toe, seemingly sizing her up before she smiled and extended her hand for a shake. “You must be Raquelle. Drake's always talking about you", the girl said. Raquelle glanced at Drake who looked like he wanted the floor to open up and swallow him. “All good things I hope", Raquelle said, shaking the girl's hand. “Oh definitely good things. He's always talking about how pre—" Drake's hand came over her mouth clamping it shut. “Okay, I think that's enough embarrassing me for one day. Joanne, this is Raquelle. Raquelle this is Joanne, my cousin", Drake introduced. “His big cousin", Joanne added. “You're not that much older than me", Drake retorted. “Excuse me but if you've turned 18 in this room please raise your hand", Joanne said then proceeded to raise her own hand. She was the only one with her hand raised. Raquelle stifled her laughter at the adorably annoyed expression on Drake's face. “So you're a werewolf too?" Raquelle asked, changing the subject. Joanne made herself comfortable on the couch in Drake's room as she nodded in reply to Raquelle's question. “And you're the human who knows about us although—" she paused to take a sniff of the air—“Drake was right, you don't exactly smell like most humans I know". That statement made Raquelle feel a little self conscious and she noticed Drake glare at his cousin. Joanne raised up her hands in surrender. “What's that supposed to mean?" Raquelle asked, feeling confused. “It just means you're different, unique even from other humans. It's probably the reason why you're so chill about everything you've learned. What it means is that we're going to be great friends", Joanne explained, a sincere smile on her face. Raquelle couldn't help but smile back. “Oh. Well in that case, thank you". “I should be thanking you. Drake hasn't had a friend in forever and now—" “Okay okay Jo. Please shut up", Drake said cutting her off. Joanne rolled her eyes then turned to face Raquelle. “We'll talk later", she mouthed and Raquelle nodded, trying to stifle her smile. The three of them spent the next couple of hours talking until it started to get late. “Drake, we really should get going if we wanna make it to the pack meeting", Joanne said, checking the time on her phone. “Wait, what pack meeting? Drake was supposed to come to a party with me later tonight. You can come too actually". “Wait, wait wait, Drake, a party?" Joanne said, cackling with laughter. “I didn't say I was coming technically", Drake said, looking up from his phone. Joanne was still laughing really hard. There were tears coming out of her eyes. “I'm sorry Raquelle. I really am but Drake at a party is the last thing that would happen. I think my cousin would rather die than go to a party. He has to be the most socially reclusive person I know", Joanne said. “He's not that bad", Raquelle said in Drake's defense. “He just needs a little push. Lucky for him, he's got me". “Okay sis. Loving the confidence", Joanne said, sounding impressed. “but this pack meeting actually is important". “What's it about?" Raquelle asked, sounding concerned. Drake and Joanne shared a look almost like they were having a silent conversation on whether or not she should know. “Well, I guess since you already know about us it can't hurt", Joanne began. “The meeting is to discuss something called The Wiccan wars", Drake continued. “What's that?" Raquelle asked. “Are you up for a story?" Joanne asked. “I'm always up for a story". “Drake will you do the honors?" “Long ago, centuries past, the moon goddess created both werewolves and witches. We were created as companions for each other and as mates and we lived in harmony for a pretty long time too then some witches started to get greedy and were not content with being side by side with us". Joanne continued. “They claimed that they were stronger than us since they knew spells and deserved to be the face of the supernatural world not werewolves. Of course, it started in hushed whispers because most of the witches were still loyal but eventually they began to grow until they finally attacked. Lead by Esmeralda, a powerful and very old witch, the oldest one of all actually, a band of witches attacked the werewolf packs of the world. Including ours". “That's how I lost my parents", Drake said, “they were fighting in the war just after they had Mason. Lots of wolves lost their lives but we still had lots of good witches on our side so we were able to stop Esmeralda for a while". Raquelle was shocked. She had never met Drake's parents and he never talked about them. She always assumed that they worked overseas and didn't want to over step her boundaries by asking. It hurt her to hear that Drake lost his parents in a war. “The problem is that more witches are deflecting over to Esmeralda's side and currently there are no witches on our pack's side. We know Esmeralda is out there biding her time. She's going to strike soon and we need to be ready to defend ourselves", Joanne said. “That sounds like some serious s**t", Raquelle said. “You have no idea", Drake said. “But wait, you made it seem like Drake's presence is important for the meeting. I doubt they'd have time to listen to every single wolf speak", Raquelle mentioned. “Well as prince of the pack and future alpha, his presence is definitely required". Raquelle turned to look at Drake. “You're a prince?" “You didn't tell her?" Joanne asked him. “Well I didn't think it was important", Drake replied, shrugging. “I didn't know I was in the presence of werewolf royalty. Your highness", Raquelle teased, throwing in a curtsey. “See this is exactly why I didn't tell you and besides, I really hate those meetings. They're a reminder that my parents are gone and they're depressing because if we're being honest with ourselves, we don't have any plans to stop Esmeralda. We could barely stop her the last times and she's definitely a lot stronger now", Drake said. “Well we can't exactly give up. We have to keep trying", Joanne said. “I know my opinion probably doesn't count here but I'm team Joanne. Things may seem dark now but there's always light at the end of the tunnel but you won't be able to see it if you give up halfway", Raquelle added. “If you're feeling this way, maybe you should skip tonight's meeting. You should go to that party with Raquelle. I'll cover for you", Joanne offered. “But you know how I feel about parties", Drake groaned. “Well you better get used to it because I'm throwing a party for your 18th". “When's your 18th?" Raquelle asked. “Next month. On the 7th", he answered. Raquelle's eyes widened in pleasant surprise. “No way. That's my birthday too". “Really?" Drake and Joanne asked in unison. “Yes", Raquelle replied nodding. “Isn't this so cute, you guys having the same birthday? You should totally let me throw you a joint party", Joanne suggested. “No parties", Drake said at the same time Raquelle said, “that actually isn't a bad idea". “See Drake, you're out voted. I knew I'd like you", Joanne said. “Really Myers? You're selling me out?" “Sorry Drake. I just really love a good party. Speaking of parties, you really should come with me tonight". “Ugh", he groaned, “but I didn't even get invited". “I'm inviting you. Right now". Raquelle turned to Joanne too. “I'm inviting you too". “I'd love to but I have to cover for Drake at the meeting because he's going to that party with you", Joanne said. “Come on Drake, please. It'll be fun and I really don't wanna go alone", Raquelle begged. “But you won't be alone. You'll be with your friends from school", he countered. “But none of them will be you", Raquelle pleased, turning on her puppy dog eyes. At this point, Drake was putty in her hands. “Fine. I'll come with you". “Yay!!. Thank you Drake", she said, hugging him in excitement. “You are good", Joanne said, very impressed, “I didn't think he'd agree but you actually got him to agree". “Oh shut up you", Drake said, flipping her the bird. Joanne checked the time on her phone. “I really should get going though. I can't be late for the meeting". “We really should get going too. I still need to get changed for the party", Raquelle said. Joanne stood up from the chair and gave both of them hugs. “It was really nice to meet you Raquelle. Something tells me that we're going to be best friends", Joanne said. Raquelle smiled. “I agree. We're like kindred spirits". Both girls shared a laugh. “I'll see you both later", Joanne said, taking her leave. “You should get ready for the party. You're gonna drop me at home for me to get dressed then you'll take us to the party", Raquelle said. “I didn't know I had become your personal chauffeur". “Just go get dressed". “Yes ma'am".
