Reject Her

1741 Words
ARLO’S POV I watch Isla fall against Atlas’ shoulder and I get pissed he’d allow this in front of Luna. I look at Luna to see if she is hurt and she looks like she is telling Atlas not to move. Not a few minutes later, Atlas drifts off into a peaceful looking sleep, sitting straight up. “Pst,” Luna whispers at me. I turn to her to see her standing and tiptoeing towards the balcony, she waves her hand for me to follow her. I walk out to the balcony and see a hammock hanging in the corner and a long couch-like bench. We sit on the couch the rest of the night talking. We talk about her being orphaned very young, she explains the mom she talked about earlier was her adoptive mom. It sounds like even though she lost her parents young, she was very lucky with the adoptive family she got and that they are still close to this day. She has siblings due to that family, but they aren’t from Vegas and live in the southeast of the country. She tells me how her plan was LA but she decided to spend a month or so in Vegas, met Isla and fell in love with the city. She pretty much spends the entire time talking, which I don’t mind at all. I’m mesmerized by her love of life, her passion and her energy. “Gosh, so tell me about you. I’m surprised your ears haven’t fallen off with how much I’ve talked,” she laughs towards me and makes her eyes big as if asking me to save her from her own embarrassment. I don’t mean to ramble on as long as I do, but it comes so naturally with her. I talk about my parents and about how they died, well, kind of. While I’m not an orphan like her and I had my parents until just a few years ago, I feel like we really bond over this aspect. I tell her about my work and how the company is growing but it’s still a small company. I talk to her about how Atlas’ parents started the umbrella corporation and how I technically am higher ranked than him. While he is the CEO of one of the companies in the umbrella corp, his parents haven’t trusted him with total control and he’s still on his trial run. I wasn’t lying when I said the CFO position had come available for the umbrella corporation rather quickly and unexpectedly. The battle I lost my parents in is the same we lost our CFO in. I laugh as I tell her how I put my application in under a false name and phone number and when I showed up to the meeting Atlas’ parents were pissed. But I convinced them to let me prove to them my talent and I got the position. Luna finds this hilarious and then her face gets serious. “Are they like that? Super judgemental just because someone isn’t as rich as them?” She looks concerned. “Umm, well, it’s hard to explain, We just kind of all grew up in a different world,” I want to tell her what we are so bad. Atlas and I haven’t discussed this at all. “I guess I kind of get that, when I was jumping from foster home to foster home before my parents adopted me, there really was its own hierarchy there.” She drops her head, “But I think you are pretty amazing and I’m happy that they gave you a chance.” She leans her head onto me intentionally, “You feel like home,” she mumbles and I adjust my head to see her eyes fluttering. Flint is running in circles in my head. Mate feels the bond! Mate thinks we’re amazing! Mate thinks we’re home! TAKE HER! I mentally shake my head at him. If I allowed him to take over she would’ve already ran away. I look at my watch to see that it is almost 5 in the morning. F*ck, I wanted to do something for her tomorrow, I need to get these guys back to the hotel so that I can make that happen. I give her a good 10 minutes to get into a deeper sleep and I carry her into the bed with Amelia, they seem to hate each other less than her and Hazel. I wake up Ezra and I grab Isla, who pushes into me, and carry her into the bed with Hazel. I come out to see Ezra has cleaned up the mess from the games and Atlas looks at me pissed. “Don’t worry, I got,” I pause, if I tell him I have Lunas number he’ll try to command me to give it to him, “Isla's number. We can’t wake up here and seem desperate.” I lie easily. He walks over to the counter and grabs an empty envelope and writes his name and number on it, addressing it to Luna, and opens the door motioning for us to go first. He makes sure the door is locked and closes it gently. Once it’s closed, he lets out a huge sigh. “F*ck!” He exclaims and begins walking ahead to the hotel. We all walk in silence. Once we make it to our room, Ezra immediately goes to his room and passes out while Atlas pours himself a drink. “Wanna talk about it?” I ask warily. “What the f*ck do I do, man?” I look at him confused, “I don’t know a single Alpha of strength that is mated to a human. But like, what is the chances her name is Luna?! I can’t deny I’m attracted to her, but she sounds like everything I am not. Not what I would want in a mate. What do I do?” Flint perks up in my head, well well well, isn’t this f*cking perfect. Tell him he’ll be seen as weak and that he should reject her! Don’t you want her to pick us because she wants to? Not because we sabotaged her other mate? HA! No! I don’t care how we get our mate! Just that we get her! She is perfect! She is phenomenal! She is ours! You can either kill the Alpha for her, or sabotage him! He sticks his nose up in the air like he’s got this all figured out. My morals are apparently crooked as I agree with Flint. “I mean, you have probably 100 she-wolves that would literally kill to be your Luna, it’s not like you’d be without a Luna entirely if you rejected her.” “Yea, but didn’t you say that the destined mate of an Alpha makes an Alpha stronger than a chosen mate?” Goddess Damnit! How did I get stuck with a human as stupid as you? Flint whines in my head. You just had to go and pester him about the mate bond and in turn educate him on it as well! Hey! Don’t you even come at me about this, when has Atlas ever actually listened to us?! How would I know this would come back to bite us?! Bite us? You mean KILL US right?! Because if our mate rejects us for that imbecile f*ck boy, I will run us off the Grand Canyon! “What is Flint all in your head about?” Atlas snaps me out of my inner dialogue. “Oh, he’s just pestering me about some work that I left for when we get back.” “He’s talking about work when I need your advice? What kind of Beta wolf does that and doesn’t care about their Alpha when they need help.” Without warning, Flint pushes to the front, “A Beta wolf that has told you since we were 16 to stop f*cking around and wait for your mate, why would I waste my time giving you advice now?! You haven’t listened to me once since then!” I scurry to push Flint back and once my eyes go from the starburst yellow-burnt orange of Flints to mine, I mumble out an apology “Sorry Atlas, Flint is clearly not in a great mood.” “His time of the month?” Atlas pesters. SEE! That right there is why he doesn’t deserve her! Flint howls in my head. “I mean he isn’t wrong, but I’m serious now, I think I want her.” “Honestly man, I’m happy for you, but you’ve been handed everything your entire life. I would be doing you and Luna a disservice if I helped you. If you want her, you’re going to have to do something you’ve never done before and earn her.” F*CKING KILL HIM! NOW WHILE HE DOESN’T SUSPECT IT! Flint is howling in my head as Atlas’ mouth is agape surprised at me telling him no. He’s getting ready to say something, probably argue with me, when I cut him off. “I’m going to bed. See you in the morning.” I quickly go into my room and close the door just as I hear the glass he was drinking from shatter against the wall. I stand still, waiting to see if his tantrum brings him in here to yell at me but I hear his door slam. Are we going to bed or are you going to help me get through this day on zero sleep to win over Luna? I question Flint. What’s your plan? Remember Arturo? He gives me no response but I feel the grin on his face and I know that he is on board. I text my friend. Hey man! Long time no talk, you still in Vegas? I quickly get a text back. Wtf Arlo its 6am Ya still here. Whaddup? I need a favor. You still have that recording studio you were managing and can you be on standby? Yea I gotcha, just keep me posted. Is it too early to text her? I question Flint. Let’s get two hours of sleep. She didn’t fall asleep until 5, 8 will be early still but justifiable and not too desperate. I lay on my bed happy with my plan and glad to have my connections. I set a phone alarm for 8am.
