Izzy’s POV
“How are you doing, sis?” I ask Jan after sitting down beside her for lunch. Before she has a chance to answer me, though, Prince Victor sits down on the other side of me! I give him a quick greeting to be polite, and turn back to my sister.
“I’m going to be fine,” she says in a tone that I can almost find that answer believable.
“Really?” I ask doubtfully.
“This is certainly not turning out to be the fabulous birthday celebration I had envisioned, that’s for sure,” Jan tells me with a rueful grimace. “But someday I’ll probably look back and laugh about it. Any other birthday after this one is bound to be better by comparison, am I right?”
