CHAPTER 3

1067 Words
XAVIER Standing in front of the church with the priest behind me, I just couldn’t wait to get the hell out of here. This was me killing two birds with one stone, but I was still bored as hell. First, this was just something I was doing to please my father, so he would stop threatening to take away my position as the CEO of his company. Even though I had my own company, one I created with my best friend, Sander, I had done a whole lot for that company for it to be ripped off my hands. Second, this was a revenge plan against that bastard, Fin Garland, Alpha of the smallest pack in this region. I might be a newly appointed Alpha to one of the largest packs in the country, but I was still a badass no one should cross, with or without my title as an Alpha, and that bastard had embezzled my money in a project I had taken pity upon his company before awarding it to them. “Here comes the bride.” I heard someone from the church whisper, but I couldn't bother at all to look at who had appeared at the end of the aisle. I couldn’t wait to walk out of here. I couldn’t just... Then the scent hit me hard, and I turned my head, and then I froze. There at the end of the aisle was a woman in a simple white dress who reached her knees and showed off her curvy shape. . She was looking gloomy, but she was still so beautiful. She looked like she had stepped out of a princess magazine, and all I could do was stare at her. Oh my goodness, was this Fin’s daughter? I didn’t think this was who I was marrying. I didn't even know who I was marrying, truth be told. “Did you see that?” I asked my wolf as he jumped into me at the smell of that scent, fully awakened. “Of course, man. She smells amazing.” My wolf said, I nodded my head in concurrence as I agreed with him. “Yes, like pineapples and berries mixed,” I said, trying to get her scent. As I stood there, trying to suppress my impatience, I caught sight of her. The woman I was about to marry. I hadn't even bothered to ask her name, which now seemed like a glaring oversight. She walked slowly down the aisle, and every step she took was tormentingly slow yet breathtaking. I had seen many women in my life—beautiful women. but she was different. I didn't know anything about her, not even her name, but the pull I felt toward her was undeniable. As she got closer, I could see the gloom on her face didn't quite mask her beauty; it was as if there was a light within her that even sadness couldn't dim. “f**k, is this some kind of setup?” I asked myself. “It could be, Xavier, but I wouldn’t care or mind.” My wolf said she was not able to take her eyes off her. “I wouldn’t mind too,” I said back to him. “I just want to smell her, taste her, lick her, and have her until I’ve had my fill,” I said. This shouldn’t have been my thought at all; it wasn’t part of my plan. I planned to get through this without even looking at her, but here I was. “I don’t know, man. I don’t think we can ever have our fill.” My wolf said,. True that! Finally, she reached me, standing so close that her scent filled my senses, making my mouth water in a way food never could. Her eyes were a unique shade of hazel with flecks of green that reminded me of the forest that surrounded my property after a rainstorm, and they seemed to hold a depth of emotion she was struggling to keep hidden. I knew she couldn’t be happy with this marriage, but shouldn’t she be feeling what I was feeling right now? The priest, an older man with a gentle voice, cleared his throat, pulling my attention from her for a moment. He began to lead us through our vows, and although I went through the motions, my mind was elsewhere. It was fixated on the woman in front of me, whose name I realized I desperately wanted to know. “I... state your names.” The priest said:. “I am Aria Garland,” she said. Oh, so her name was Aria? Nice! “I am Xavier Darkwood,” I said. We repeated the words, promising things to each other that felt strangely important to me as I said them, given that we were strangers just moments ago. When the priest finally said, "I now pronounce you husband and wife," a shiver ran down my spine. So I was this woman’s husband? "You may now kiss the bride," he stated, permitting me to do what some part of me had been yearning to do since I first laid eyes on her. I lowered my head, hesitant at first because of the circumstances that had led us here. Our lips met gently, a soft contact that should have felt wrong but didn't. Almost immediately, my wolf stirred within me again, growling his approval and his possessiveness. Then I saw her eyes. When I pulled back a little, she felt what I had just done, which could only mean one thing. She was my mate. She was my wife. My Luna. All thoughts of revenge, of this marriage being a mere business transaction, were pushed aside at that moment as I deepened the kiss, feeling a rush of protectiveness and desire that was primal and fierce. As I kissed her, I knew that whatever my plans had been, they were going to change. She was now my priority, and I would have to figure out how to reconcile that with the tangled web of business and personal vendettas I was caught in. But I still had to tread with caution. She was Fin’s daughter, after all. But for that moment, none of it mattered. All that mattered was the woman in my arms, the woman who was now bound to me in every way that counted.
