Lexi’s POV
Chris was going overboard and his words made my nerves pop out from my creamy skin. My blood started to boil in fury at the way he was behaving. I knew that he was my client and I had bonded myself to serve him, but he was using the contract as a weapon against me.
My jaw clenched and I stepped forward to warn him with my finger, “Mr. Chris—”
“Ah, here comes the coffee machine!” he interrupted, looking over my shoulder.
Turning around, I noticed two housekeeping workers carrying a coffee machine into the cabin. I huffed and rested my arms on the sides of my waist in annoyance.
Chris moved to the corner of the cabin and pointed to where he wanted the coffee machine to be located. “Settle them down here.”
My gaze shifted between the workers and Chris occasionally. Eventually, Chris returned to his table and focused his gaze back on the laptop screen. As soon as the workers set up the machine, I walked to it and picked up one of the two cups there for my own coffee with milk. I didn’t waste a minute because I badly needed a cup of coffee to calm my nerves and settle down.
“Make a one for me also,” Chris’s deep voice echoed in my ears. He sounded like he was nearby and when I turned around, I gasped when I realized how close he was to me. It was surprising because I did not hear the sound of his wheelchair moving.
“How did you….” I paused with shock. It was extremely confusing and startling because the distance between his table and the coffee machine was very far apart from each other in his huge spacious office.
“Make a black coffee for me. No cream, no sugar.” Chris handed me the other cup casually.
Shocked by his request, I looked between the cup and his face a few times before replying, “I am not here to make coffee for you. That is for your secretary to help you with. Why did you ignore her coffee? You must have been drinking the coffee—”
“I don’t like her coffee. I throw it away every day,” he chimed in, moving his blue eyes to me.
I want to swim in those blue eyes forever and I want those pair of blue sapphires to look at only me for my entire life. When I realized what I had said to myself, I shook my head with disbelief. What is this nonsense coming into my head?
My hand reached out to pass the cup back to him. “Then you must tell her how you like it. I am sorry, Mr. Chris, but—”
“Did you read the contract?” he asked, interrupting me again.
My forehead furrowed. “No, I didn’t. My dad must have, why?”
“Then, read it, because it will help you to work with me, Ms. Lexi. There is a clause in it that states that you are bonded for any duties assigned by the client, which in this case is to make a cup of coffee for me,” he declared with a wink.
Is he teasing me?
“That doesn’t mean I have to do everything you ask. What if you ask me to sit on your lap to s***k my a*s?” I blurted out but as soon as I realized the depth of what had slipped out from my mouth, I immediately closed my mouth with my hand.
Chris smirked at my words and moved his wheelchair towards me, closing the distance between us.
“That can be arranged, Ms. Lexi,” Chris said in a deep voice as he arched his eyebrow at me.
My jaw dropped at his response. “What!”
“Ooooh….so you want to get s*****d by our mate? Now, that’s a little bit sexy, Lexi!” Brie chuckled mischievously, convincing me that she was the one responsible for my embarrassment.
“Bring my coffee to the table, Ms. Lexi,” he instructed and moved his wheelchair towards the table before burying himself into his laptop again.
How can something like that slip out of my mouth? I have never been interested in love, mates, or even s*x before! That was way too embarrassing! How can I look at him now? He is my client and my boss. I should think of a way to get out of here and appoint another bodyguard to replace me.
Reluctantly, I made the coffee for Chris and offered it to him. He patted a spot on his table that had a small coaster to show me where should I keep the coffee, so I did what he asked. That was the thing about Chris, he always wanted everything to be in order and super clean. I wasn’t sure about his bedroom and his other personal spaces, but according to the details I saw in his office and in the vehicle, I came to the conclusion that he probably had Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
My dad was also a well-ordered and clean person, but Chris surpassed him by miles. Looking at his working desk, the cabin, the meeting rooms, and every vehicle he uses, I couldn’t find a single piece of dust or anything unsettling on them.
Returning to my seat on the couch, I got comfortable with my coffee. While sipping on my drink, Chris received a call, looked at the screen, and quickly answered it. Not wanting to listen to his calls out of respect, I stood up from the couch and decided not to stay there. So, I took my coffee and walked out of his cabin. In the corridor outside his cabin, I noticed some windows and headed there to take a look outside.
We were on the 17th floor of the building and it was high enough to get a good look at the city. Taking a sip of my coffee, I had to admit that the coffee tasted amazing because of the high-quality cream. Chris truly had the best products in the world.
They can really buy anything when they have billions of dollars!
A few seconds later, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching me due to my sharp wolf hearing. Honestly, that was one thing I admired about Brie being inside me, but I hated her mate-crazy mind.
“Ms. Lexi, I’m glad I met you here,” Mr. Henry, Chris’s manager, said with a smile.
Smiling back at him, I raised my coffee cup. “I just thought of having a cup of coffee and looking around, Mr. Henry.”
“Ms. Lexi, I heard that you saved Mr. Chris’s life yesterday. I am glad that Mr. Stark took the decision to hire you. When I saw you yesterday, I had my doubts about how a female bodyguard can protect him, especially since he is disabled.” Mr. Henry’s facial expression changed from time to time when he spoke about how he felt about me.
Nodding, I gulped down the last of my coffee. “Mr. Henry, has Mr. Chris been attacked before this?”
“No, never. Yesterday was the first time. Mr. Stark decided to hire a bodyguard when they received information that Mr. Chris’s life is in danger. The police are investigating the incident and I hope they will come up with the name of the perpetrator soon.” Mr. Henry sighed.
“By the way, do you have any idea why Mr. Chris booked a table for us for lunch?” I asked, still curious about his action.
Mr. Henry let out a long exhale. “Ms. Lexi, to be honest, I don’t know. In fact, I was shocked to hear him instructing me to reserve a table for lunch and that too with a lady.”
“Why would it be surprising? I am sure that he has gone out with ladies for lunch and dinner before,” I replied casually.
“No, Ms. Lexi, he has not. I mean, forget about with someone, he doesn’t even go out alone. He has his lunch in the office and focuses all his time on the business,” he revealed, making me raise my eyebrows in slight disbelief.
Intrigued, I tried to find out more information. “Mr. Henry—”
“If you are done talking to him, Ms. Lexi, I want you back in my cabin,” Chris’s voice echoed through the corridor.
Nodding my head, I walked back to his cabin while Mr. Henry headed to the elevator. I also noticed a gentleman walking away from his cabin and walking to the elevator.
“I will wash this cup and come back,” I told Chris, pointing to the empty cup in my hands.
“You can use the restroom inside my cabin to do that. There is no need to go anywhere,” he countered.
Ugh! This man is not allowing me to move away for even a second. He has promised God that he will take revenge on me. I mentally cursed him and walked towards the restroom.
“Wash mine too.” He forwarded his cup to me when I passed by him.
Hmmm…the cup is empty. Did he throw it away or did he finish the coffee I made? I looked down at his empty cup with curiosity.
“Don’t worry, I drank it to the last drop,” Chris said suddenly, startling me.
Is he a mind reader? How did he know what I was thinking? Did our first touch bring him the mind-linking ability? But he is a human!
Brushing it off, I walked to the restroom quickly to wash the cups. I had to admit, deep, deep in the corner of my mind, I felt a little happy and proud that I made coffee for my mate and that he finished it. Turning my attention to the cups, I realized that both cups were identically white with a silver line around the top of the cups. Wait, how will I know which cup he drank out of and which cup was mine?
Nevertheless, I washed them, wiped the cups with a clean tissue, and came out to place them on the wooden tray next to the coffee machine.
Taking a step towards Chris, I tried to bring up my concern. “Ummm…Mr. Chris, I think we need to get two different cups, otherwise—”
“There’s no need,” he responded while still looking at his phone.
“Huh?” It was quite shocking to me because Chris was someone who valued cleanliness. I assumed that he wouldn’t like to drink from a cup that had already been used by someone.
Shaking my head, I said, “I think you didn’t hear me properly, Mr. Chris. I was saying that we need—”
“Two different cups with different designs. Yes, I heard you and I am saying that there is no need for that, Ms. Lexi,” he interrupted me mid-sentence and repeated what I said to prove that he heard me.
Pinching the bridge of my nose, I sighed. “What if the cup gets mixed and—”
“You are washing the cups after use, so it’s not a big deal, Ms. Lexi.” Chris turned his upper body towards me and raised his eyebrow.
But, I wasn’t satisfied with his answer. “What if—”
“Time to go for lunch!” Chris shut his laptop and moved out from behind his working table.
Glancing at my watch, I realized that the morning had passed and it was already 12.15 in the afternoon.
“Let’s go, Ms. Lexi! I am so hungry that I could eat a devil!” he exclaimed. How could I refuse this stubborn man?
I walked behind him as we headed down to the parking garage. The incident of the previous night started to flush into my mind and I made sure to be extra cautious by using all my senses sharply.
“Get in, Ms. Lexi.” Chris’s vehicle soon arrived and as usual, I sat in the back seat with him.
The silence was awkward. This time, he didn’t bring his laptop along and I made sure to sit close to the window. Luckily, within fifteen minutes, we reached the Plaza Hotel. It was one of the most luxurious hotels I had ever seen.
Chris got down from the vehicle and I was immediately by his side, which made him look at me in awe. “You are super-fast, Ms. Lexi. How is it that you are always at the door whenever I get down?”
I got super-speed wolf powers! I mentally replied but just nodded with a smile.
We walked to the elevators since the restaurant was located on the third floor. The table reserved for us was located at the corner of the restaurant floor. Chris and I sat face-to-face before the waiter quickly came to take our order.
“Ms. Lexi, order anything. It’s my treat,” Chris said, looking at the menu.
My forehead narrowed. “Treat for what?”
“For saving my crippled a*s!” he laughed. To be honest, it was so beautiful to see him laugh, but on the other hand, I felt pity when I heard him call himself a crippled man. I couldn’t imagine how hard it was to spend your entire life in a wheelchair.
I silently read the menu and my tummy growled suddenly. I knew that I was extremely hungry and that I could eat half of the hotel’s kitchen. So, I ordered a few different types of food while Chris ordered much lesser food than I did. Unfortunately, I couldn’t help it since I was a wolf and we ate a lot.
“I can’t imagine that you eat so much when I look at your beautiful figure, Ms. Lexi,” Chris expressed.
My eyebrows arched at him. “Was that a compliment or a—”
However, before I could say anything, he placed a gold-colored small envelope on the table and pushed it toward me.
“What is this?” I asked.
“Open it and see,” he replied before sipping on his soup.
Curious, I opened the envelope to see that it was an invitation to a cocktail party.
“This is an invitation for you.” I closed the envelope and forwarded it back to him.
“Didn’t you read it?” he asked with surprise.
“No, why should I read your invitation?” I replied before pulling the salad bowl towards me and licking my lips. The food looked so mouthwatering and my hunger grew more with the culinary presentation of the food.
“It’s for me, but I have to go with a partner…” Chris declared, pausing to have his soup.
I didn’t know where he was going with his intentions but I wasn’t interested in his parties. “So?”
“So, you are going to be my partner!”
