CHAPTER 5 – I Quit

2011 Words
Lexi’s POV It was not enough that I had f*cked up the entire day, I had to make it worst by touching him, the one thing I swore not to do. With that single touch, the mate bond conditions were complete. “Did you feel that? The sparks? I told you that you will feel the amazing bond!” Brie exclaimed, the only one completely overjoyed at that moment. “Shut the f*ck up! I have screwed up here and you are partying?” I cursed her. Ignoring Chris’s questions, I quickly dropped Chris at home since his driver and manager weren’t around. I couldn’t risk my client’s life by letting him stay there a minute longer. But, as soon as we reached his mansion, I got on my motorcycle and started riding back towards the packhouse. No matter what, I was determined not to go back to the Starks’ mansion and was prepared to lie to Dad. “Are you planning on lying to the Alpha? If you do that, I will reveal the truth about your mate to him. I told you that this will happen if you touch him!” Brie argued and kept on arguing with me all the way back to the packhouse. “Are you bloody crazy? Can’t you see that he is a crippled man and a human? Do you think that he is suitable for an Alpha’s daughter? Didn’t you see what happened at the parking lot? I had to take care of him! I had to guard him! Most importantly, do you think he will hug us passionately and love us back when he finds out that I am a wolf?” I retorted and Brie turned silent. Sighing to myself, I continued riding my bike at maximum speed and let the adrenaline calm me down. Eventually, I reached the packhouse, parked the bike in the garage, and noticed that Ramon was there. “Ramon, clean the bike before checking the fuel and engine oil.” I threw the bike keys to him and he caught them easily. “How was your day, Ma’am?” Ramon asked. “Don’t ask. I am screwed.” Sighing deeply, I left the garage and walked towards the main packhouse building. Entering the living room, I noticed Brian spending time with his mate. Their backs were facing me, so I paused for a moment. Brian’s mate was sitting on his lap and they were so romantically alone in their world that they didn’t notice my presence. “See how they are both romantically in each other’s arms. Don’t you want to fall into Chris’s arms like that, Lexi?” Brie teased me sensually. “Noooo!” I yelled out, not though my mind-link with Brie, but out of my mouth, startling Brian and his mate. “Hey, Lex, what happened? Are you alright?” Brian asked as he walked towards me. Even his mate was curious about my sudden scream. “I am fine,” I replied harshly. Brian looked at me with suspicion. “Then, why did you scream?” “None of your business,” I said and walked past them before stopping. “Oh, and you two should get a room.” Wasn’t that too harsh, Lex? Why are you so bothered and irritated with their bond? Is it because you couldn’t spend time with your mate? Brian was talking to me nicely, so why did I yell at him roughly? Kicking the main doors, I entered the Alpha quarters huffing and puffing. It was 10.20 at night, which meant that Dad was sleeping. I felt relieved that I didn’t have to go and meet him. Instead, I headed straight to my room. After removing my boots and throwing them away, I rested on my bed and started to think about the day. The happiest day of a wolf’s life was meeting his or her mate, but that day for me was nothing less than screwed up. As soon as I started to think about my mate, I felt uncomfortable and began to sweat badly. My mind felt full and soon my room felt suffocating so I decided to go for a run. I opened the door to go out but was shocked to see who was standing in front of my door. It was Dad! The Alpha of the Guardian Warrior pack was at my door! “Dad, I thought you were sleeping,” I blurted out as my heart began to pound nervously. I felt anxious to look into his eyes and speak since I had never lied to him before, but now I had to. “How can I sleep? I was waiting for you to come back and I thought you will come to see me once you return. Lex, is everything alright?” Dad immediately sensed a change in me. Gulping back my saliva, I tried to come up with an excuse. “Since it’s after ten o’clock, I didn’t want to disturb you. I thought you would be spending time with Mom.” “Mom has gone to sleep. The main gate guards mind-linked me that you have returned since I told them earlier to let me know when you arrived,” Dad replied. “Dad, you go should go to sleep. We can talk tomorrow,” I said, trying to get him to leave since I was afraid Brie might come out and tell him about our mate. Dad shrugged his shoulders. “Oh, come on, I always have time to talk to my daughter. Plus, I am not that tired.” I should have known that it is impossible to push Dad away or ignore him. “Can I come in, Lexi?” Dad asked since I was blocking the entrance to my room. “Ummm… sure, Dad.” Moving aside, I walked back into the room and sat on the bed. Dad pulled a chair from my writing table, sat on it, and folded his arms in front of his chest. “So, tell me, what happened today? How was the day with the Starks?” “Let me come out! I will tell him about the beautiful day we had with our mate!” Brie screamed in my head, deafening me. “Listen here, you dumba*s! You better not interrupt me, or else you won’t be able to see your so-called mate ever again!” I threatened her. Surprisingly, my stubborn wolf surrendered. “Fine, B*tch!” “Nothing special happened, Dad. Mr. Stark and his son were there. Then, I followed his son to his office. The day was normal and I was just standing there the entire day until the meetings ended,” I explained. Dad nodded. “That’s good. Mr. Stark will discuss the fees with me.” “Dad, I don’t think that I can fit into their routine. We should provide a warrior from our pack instead,” I suggested bravely. Brie immediately whined in pain before growling at me in anger. Her actions gave me an intolerable headache, but I knew I had to distance myself from Chris. Dad’s eyebrows frowned at me. “Why is that?” “They have a busy schedule, Dad. I don’t think that I will have any spare time to train the rest of the warriors and look after the security firm,” I clarified using fair points. Dad started to think deeply and rubbed his chin before he finally nodded and stood up. “If you think so, Lex, then I will discuss it with Mr. Stark tomorrow. I will request one week to provide a suitable bodyguard.” “Thanks, Dad.” I walked to him and hugged him tightly. As soon as he wrapped his arms around me, I started to feel my body getting lighter like every issue I faced that day was being washed out of my body. “Is everything okay, Lexi? Brian complained about your scream. Is there something you would like to share with your dad?” he asked, his voice filled with concern. I wish, Dad, but now is not the time. Pulling away from our hug, I looked up at him. “No, Dad. I think I just need to have run and release Brie.” “Sure. Do you want me to join you?” Dad offered, concerned about me. I flashed him an assuring smile. “No, Dad, I will be fine by myself.” “Good night, Lexi. Be safe. Don’t go out of our territory,” Dad advised before heading out of my room. Letting out a long sigh, I walked out of my room barefoot and headed out of the packhouse. As soon as I reached the tree line where the forest began, I shifted into my wolf. Brie howled and started to run toward the forest. I could feel her stretching her wolf arms and paws like she was releasing her anger and every feeling she went through that day. She needed it since it had been a long time since I shifted into her. Brie was a large black wolf, bigger in size compared to other she-wolves since she was of Alpha lineage. She also had two white strips that started from her neck and ran down to her front legs. “Brie, slow down! We have been running for nearly one hour and you are still running at the same speed. If we keep running like this, I am sure that we will reach the other pack’s territory soon!” I raised my voice at her when I felt that she was not going to stop. “Don’t talk to me! You showed me your true colors today, Lexi! You showed me that you are a real bi*ch!” she barked, clearly angry and disappointed with me. I sighed out loud. “You will understand—” “Understand what? Didn’t you see how his eyes filled with emotions for us?” Brie said emotionally, making me pity the situation she was caught in. My voice turned soft, but I was still insistent in reasoning with her. “But, he is a human and crippled—” “So what? We can be his legs! We are strong enough to protect him! The two of us are enough to make him perfect. Nothing else matters when it comes to the mate bond. He is empty and he needs us, Lex!” Brie exclaimed, her voice full of emotion. “Shut your mouth and keep running. Go ahead, run and do whatever you want. Don’t come to me when we get into trouble!” I yelled out my closing statement. Deep down I knew that no matter how much I argued with her, none of us was going to accept the other’s point, so I let her flush out her emotions. Besides, I was determined not to face him again. We ran all over our pack territory before swimming to every corner of the river and lake for so long that I lost track of time. Finally, Brie stopped under a large tree to sleep. She had calmed down, but still, I did not shift and stayed in her form, nevertheless, we slept without talking to each other. *The next morning* When the sun rose, I shifted back to my human form and dressed up in the clothes that I left near the packhouse. Everyone was having breakfast when I entered the packhouse and I wanted to take a quick shower before joining them for breakfast. “Lex?” Dad called out to me when I passed by the dining hall. Stopping in my tracks, I turned to look at him. “Yes, Dad?” “I don’t know what happened there yesterday, but…” he paused. His voice was firm and his face didn’t carry the smile that he usually gave me. My forehead furrowed with curiosity. “But what, Dad?” “They want you and only you as Chris’s bodyguard!”
