Rose POV
The balcony of Kaylie's room provides the perfect setting for our morning breakfast. The gentle breeze carries the scent of blooming flowers, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and comfort. As we sit together, enjoying the serene ambiance, Adam peacefully slumbers in his baby carriage beside Kaylie. The rising sun casts a warm golden glow, casting a beautiful backdrop for our heartfelt conversation.
Surprised by a revelation, I exclaim, "Who would have thought we're the same age? I always thought you were much younger than me."
Kaylie nods, a hint of amusement in her eyes. "I felt the same way. Despite my petite stature, we are indeed the same age."
Reflecting on our past experiences, I express my admiration, "I was truly taken aback when I discovered that you're human. Yet, you display incredible strength and bravery. I admire you."
Kaylie's modesty shines through as she responds, "Yeah, I may be just an ordinary human, an orphan without a place to call home. But I do what I can to help others. I deeply care about Adam, and I despise his father for neglecting him and refusing to acknowledge his own son," anger laces her words.
A moment of silence envelops us, allowing us to savor our breakfast while surrounded by the peacefulness of the morning. The sun's gentle rays embrace us, casting a warm glow that mirrors the growing connection between us.
I urge Kaylie gently, "Please give him some time, Kaylie. I believe that once he has processed his grief, he will come to adore his son wholeheartedly. Lucas is truly a kind-hearted man who loved Leah deeply. Her sudden departure, leaving him with Adam, has shattered him. Their love was undeniable from the very beginning. Please, don't harbor hatred towards Lucas," I implore.
Frustration seeps into Kaylie's voice as she responds, "But it's been three days already. How can he not come here and inquire about his own son? I feel like he's forgotten about Adam. Maybe he wants me to take Adam back to my human world. Or maybe I should consider it, taking Adam with me to the hospital where I work. It might be better because I can't bear the thought of leaving Adam here when he only wants me."
Fear tinged my voice as I urgently reply, "No, you can't go to that hospital. It's located in enemy territory. If they discover that Adam is Lucas and Leah's son, both of you would be in grave danger." My frustration turns to surprise as I continue, "You mentioned wanting to be a royal nanny. I actually mentioned your request to Jenson, and he said he would discuss the salary with Lucas," I offering her a reassuring smile.
Kaylie, attempting to lighten the mood, laughs and says, "But that was just a joke, remember?"
Sincere concern fills her voice as she confess, "I genuinely care for Adam. If I were to receive a salary, I fear Lucas might perceive me as a gold digger or misunderstand my love for Adam. He might think that my affection stems only for his money."
Comforting Kaylie, I explain, "It's alright if Lucas sees you that way. Now let me ask you, why did you become a doctor? Wasn't it for money too? You took this job for the sake of money as well. You need to accumulate as much money as you can, and this is your only chance. I know you love Adam, but with just love, you won't get anything when one day you're asked to leave the Blue Sapphire Pack. There are rules in the Blue Sapphire Pack that prohibit humans from staying here. It's only because of the mourning period, and Adam needs you. Otherwise, I'm sure the old men sitting on the council will immediately ask Lucas to drive you away. So my advice is to accept the salary that Lucas will provide. Don't reject it. You don't need to care about Lucas's opinion of you unless you love Lucas," I say, playfully winking.
Kaylie dismisses the idea, shaking her head and asserting, "Come on, that's crazy. How could I love him? And there's no way he loves me. We come from two different worlds."
Teasingly, I respond, "Who knows, maybe you love Lucas. It wouldn't be so bad... at least Adam would have a mother."
Kaylie grumbles, voicing her doubts, "It's highly unlikely... From the moment I met Lucas, he has been incredibly annoying.
Accusing me of malpractice and blaming me for Leah's death. Even though I did everything in my power to help Leah."
"I know. I know what you did for Leah," I said, comforting her. "You also overcame your fears when Leah kept shifted into a wolf, then back into a human, and then into a wolf again. I can imagine how scared you must have been at that time. But you were amazing and incredibly brave, delivering Adam from Leah's womb. I also knew that you pulled Leah, in her wolf form, while carrying Adam, into the cave for a safer place to save Leah's soul. You did everything you could. Leah will surely be grateful to you for saving Adam. It's fortunate that Leah met you. If it were someone else, they might have run away as fast as a sprinter."
I try to lighten the mood with a joke, hoping to bring a smile to Kaylie's face.
A smile returns to Kaylie's face as she hears my words.
"I'm glad it was you that Jenson sent to be my friend. If it had been someone else who didn't understand like you do, I would have run back and taken Adam with me. You make me feel at ease and confident that I'm not making the wrong decision. Maybe this is a fast track that God has given me so I can gather money and continue my studies soon. If I hadn't met Leah, I would have to work hard at that small hospital for years, but here, as you mentioned, maybe in just a few month , I can accumulate a lot of money. Thank you, Rose, for thinking about me. I will definitely accept the salary from Lucas, and I will take good care of Adam, not just because of the money, but because I genuinely care for him. Spending a few month here will surely be enjoyable. I am truly grateful. I've got a friend like you."
" I also truly grateful that I’ve got a friend like you.” I smile to Kaylie
