XANDER’S POV
“What is the update on our warriors that were sent to the training camp?” I asked Tom, our beta.
“I called in this morning and got an update on things. Everything is going as planned, and there have been no issues,” he updated me.
“What about the inventory? Have you checked what we need to restock? I heard from the main doctor that we are running out of medicine, and you know how she is when it comes to things that concern the clinic. She has been pestering me for days now. We need to get it done soon.” I sighed.
Tom chuckled, “I am already on it. I have reached out to our trade route operators. It will be here in a few days at most. I will tell the doctor to stop pestering you once I leave here.”
“Thank you.” I replied jokingly and he laughed.
“I think that's about it. We have managed to settle all the issues we needed to settle. You can go now.” I said to him.
Just as he made to leave, the door flung open, and a very angry Sly and my mother, who was hot behind him, entered the office.
I stood up alarmed. “What's going on?” I asked them.
“Ask your mother.” Sly said, fuming.
Sly’s anger made me worried because he was the one that hardly ever got angry, so whatever made him get angry must be very serious.
“Watch your mouth, boy; I will not warn you again. If you speak to me in that manner again, I will tackle you to the ground.” Our mother warned him sternly.
“Can both of you calm down and tell me what is going on? Sly, talk to me, what's going on?” I asked.
He breathed in and out slowly as he tried to control his temper. “Mother said she had found Dalia’s house, but she didn't meet her parents. And since Dalia is healed, she will be going back home tomorrow.” Sly said.
I now understood his anger, and I gritted my teeth to hold back my outburst of anger.
“I told her it was good news she was able to locate Dalia’s family, but she can't leave now. We need more time to get her to like us and to stay. Mom already gave us the ultimatum that we can't force Dalia to stay, so shouldn't she at least give us some time to get Dalia to want to stay with us? That's reasonable at least, but she just wants to send her home.
Heck, it's just been a few days since Dalia has been here, and we even missed the first few days that she was here because we weren't in the pack, and even after we met her, we had to come to terms with the fact that she is human, and we cannot immediately be with her as we would want. Yesterday was the first day we actually got to have a conversation with her and do something nice for her. We are yet to even get the point where we can tell her we are werewolves not to talk about getting her to stay with us.
But mom won't just understand that we need more time.” Sly said exasperatedly.
“Mum?” I said to her. I needed to hear what she had to say.
“I think I will be going now,” Tom said. As he tried to make his escape.
"Wait, Tom, I need you here to be a reasonable person because these two have lost their sense of thinking and cannot make a rational decision now that it concerns their mate.” My mom stopped Tom from leaving.
He glanced at Sy and me before replying yes to her. There was no way he would have said no anyway.
"Well, Alexander, if you would like to know. I told your brother that Dalia will leave tomorrow because I have found her family, and she is now healed and has no reason to stay here anymore.”
“But mum…” I started to say, but she raised her hand, effectively forcing me to swallow everything I was about to say.
“I am not done talking.” She said to me. “You both might not see it now, but everything that I am doing for the sake of you both. Do you both really think that I do not want you to be with your mate? I, more than anyone else, have prayed the hardest to the moon goddess to bring your mates your way, so why would you even think I would want to be a stumbling block now that she is here?
You have to understand that your mate is human, and she doesn't know about our kind. There are a lot of risks involved in this that you both do not see. We can't force her to stay back because her family might have reported her missing to the police, and if they start tracing her movements, it will lead them to the secret enchanted garden, and this might cause our kind to be exposed to the human world.
But even if that doesn't happen, you also cannot ignore the fact that telling your mate about our kind right now without being sure that she will keep the secret is a risk, because what if she goes out there and tells the human authorities? Or spread a crazy rumor about us? Now I am not saying that she will do that, but that is actually a possibility.
And I know you all have thought about this even though you have chosen to ignore the existence of the problem. Your mate is human, and it is not going to be easy for the pack to accept her. Many people haven't ever heard of alphas having human mates, and we do not know how the pack will take the news.
So the point I am trying to make is that you should allow your mate to go home. That does stop you from trying to get her to love you. And then, within the time you have to get her to love you and accept you and our kind, you can also get the pack to accept the fact that your mate is human. That will spare us the problem of having a problem with the human authorities or a bad rumour starting that we have been holding a human hostage.
It hurts me to make this decision too, but I have to put my foot down and do what is right.” She said.
I slumped into my chair after I heard what she had to say. Everything she said was correct, but even though my head understood it, my heart didn't, and my wolf didn't. He yearned for our mate as much as I yearned for her, and from the emotion I was getting from Sly's connection, he was going through the same dilemma.
“What do you think, Tom?” My mom asked Tom.
He cleared his throat. Probably taking his time to arrange his words well so as not to say the wrong things. “Everything you said is true, Luna. With everything going on right now with the k********g of women and all of that, I really do not think it's wise for people to know that our Luna is human, and we also cannot afford to attract the attention of the human authorities at this point in time. We need to be cautious.
The major problem we have is getting her to stay and how she will react to the news of our kind. Here is what I would suggest. Instead of just sending her home, I think she should be given the opportunity to choose if she wants to stay or not. Depending on her decision, we can then decide if she will go home or if she will stay and how to sort out the other issues,” Tom said.
“I think that's a good idea. Thanks, Tom. So over to you two, what do you think now that you have heard what we both have to say?” Our mom asked.
“I think what Tom said is okay. Everything depends on Dalia from everything you both said. So I guess we just have to ask her and hear what her decision is. Although I highly doubt that she will agree to stay with us. She barely knows us.” Sly said.
I sighed “Yeah, we can only hope that by some stroke of luck she will actually want to stay, even if it's for a few more days.” I said.
“I am sorry boys, I wish it didn't have to be like this.” My mom apologized to us. I could see the pain in her eyes as she had to stand her ground and do what was right for everyone.
“We understand, mom, and I am sorry for how I responded earlier.” Sly apologized.
“It's not your fault. I understand where your anger was coming from. No matter what her decision is, we will find a way to make sure she accepts you both. She is your mate, human or not, she will feel the bond, and she can't fight it for too long.” She reassured us.
“I really hope things go well.” I thought to myself.
