Chapter8

DALIA'S POV I was watching a movie when I heard footsteps approaching my room. For some reason, I immediately knew that it was Xander and Sly, and the excitement began to build. There are a lot of things I haven't been able to explain ever since I got here, and this was one of the many of which I have noticed recently. Sly and Xander made me excited equally; that wasn't conventional. Two men didn't have one girl, and one girl shouldn't desire two men. I bit my lip as I thought about it because, even though it wasn't the conventional way, my body yearned for it. I shook my head, trying to remove the thoughts from my head. That was when I realized that they were standing at the door instead of entering inside. I didn't want to seem desperate, so I waited patiently for them to come in. After a few seconds, the door opened, but Sly and Xander weren't alone. Their mom was with them and also another man. “Hey Dalia, how are you doing today?” Xander and Sly's mother asked me. “I am fine; thanks for asking.” I replied, but my eyes were on Xander and Sly. Their eyes looked sad; it made me wonder what was going on and what made them so sad. “So I heard from the doctor that you are all healed up and better and can now be discharged to go home.” Their mother said. “Ohh,” I was just able to say. I kind of knew where this conversation was going, and I was supposed to be happy, but somehow I was sad. “And I also found your parents' house, although I didn't meet them at home, so I was not able to have a conversation with them, but they are probably worried sick about you. Anyway, it's on that note that we will be taking you back home today.” She said, “Today?!” I almost shouted. I totally wasn't expecting that. “You don't have to leave today; if you wish to stay longer, you are welcome to stay. We can just go over to your parents' house, or better yet, you can give us their number to call them and let them know when you will be home.” Xander rambled out fast. “Calm down, Xander.” Their mother said to him. “What we are trying to say is that we don't want you to leave; you want you here by our side. It's what we have wanted for the longest time, but it's your decision to make. If you decide to go home, then we will take you home, but if you do not wish to, then you can stay here with us, and we will figure out how to convince your parents.” Sly said. I could hear hope in his voice just as I had heard the desperation in Xander’s voice. They wanted me to stay. “I have to go home. I can't just leave home. I am only 17. I am still a child in the eyes of the law and to my parents too. Heck, I am still a child to myself too. I can't just tell them that I am leaving home or that I am not coming back, and my reason would be that I am staying with a bunch of people I barely know inside the woods. Xander and Sly’s faces scrunched up in distaste as I said the last part. “You are not a child; you are 17. That is the perfect time to meet your mate and start having pups.” Xander said. Sly immediately hit his side with his elbow. “We understand what you are saying. What Xander is trying to say is that some people get married at 17 and leave home. But that doesn't have to be you. We just want you here by our side, that's all,” Sly said. I wanted to ask what finding your mate and having pups meant, but this didn't feel like the time. “But that's completely your decision to make. Whatever your choice is, we will respect it. If you want to leave, then we will take you home right now, but if you wish to stay, then we will arrange for that too.” Their mom said. I could decipher if she was trying to chase me away or if she was doing this for my best interest. I looked at Xander and then Sly, and the look in their eyes almost made me say that I would stay, but I needed to think about it very well. I looked away from them and thought about it for a second. I can't just decide to stay without first going home; my parents will be waiting; they are probably worried too. It would be wrong to just lay everything on them just like that. But even that wasn't the major issue. I wasn't certain that I wanted to be here. Something still felt off about this place, and as much as I found peace here, I also wasn't completely comfortable. “I have made up my mind,” I said to all of them. It broke my heart that I was about to shatter their hopes. “I will go home,” I said. The light and hope immediately left their eyes, and their faces became drawn. I almost reached out to rub their faces, but that wouldn't be right. I almost changed my mind because of the look on their faces. I had to look away again. “That's it. You can get ready; two men will follow you and make sure you get home safe.” Their mother said to me, Sly and Xander immediately turned around and left the room. For some reason, that made me sad. Their mother joined them along with the man they went with, and I was left alone. “I guess that's it. It's time to return to where I am supposed to be.” I muttered to myself. I got up from bed and decided to get ready, only to realize that I had no clothes to put on. My clothes from the day I got here were discarded because they were torn in different places. I sat on the bed dejectedly, suddenly feeling emotional. The door creaked open, and Jules entered and stopped at the door. “Can I come in?” she asked gently. I chuckled “You are already inside, ain't you?” I asked her. “Yea, I guess.” She gave me a small smile. “I got you clothes to wear home. I knew you didn't have anything to wear.” “Thank you.” I replied and took it from her. “I thought to also come help you pack, but you don't seem to have anything to pack.” She shuffled on her feet. “Yeah, I don't have anything to pack.” I replied, feeling a little awkward. “Are you going to take that?” She pointed to the iPad that the twins gave me. “No, I won't.” I replied. “If I do, it will make me miss them more.” I thought to myself. A knock came at the door. “We are here to accompany you.” The two men said to me. "Okay, I will be out in a minute.” I replied. “Can I accompany you?” Jules asked. "No, it's okay. I think I would prefer to go alone; you don't need to accompany me.” I said to her, It wasn't because I didn't want her to follow me, but because I didn't want to have to say goodbye to her. “Are you sure?” She asked me. “Yes, I am certain,” I replied. I walked towards the door, and the man was already waiting for me. They walked behind me as I left the hospital. I looked around subconsciously, hoping that the twins would just come out and walk me home instead of these two strangers. The walk home was silent as we walked through the forest. I don't know how they managed to navigate through the forest because, to me, everything looked the same. “What do I tell my parents when I get home?” I thought to myself. I really missed them. “We are here,” one of the warriors said to me. I looked forward and saw my house. I must have zoned out at some point during the walk because I didn't know when we got here or how we got here. “Thank you,” I said and turned around, but they were gone. Vanished like they were never there. “When I say they are weird, this is one of the reasons why.” I muttered to myself. I walked to the door, but it was locked. I checked for the key under the welcome mat, and it was there. I opened the door and went inside, and something didn't feel right. The house was exactly how I left it, and a little dust covered the surface. This only meant one thing: my parents haven't been home since I disappeared. That didn't make any sense. I moved around the house to be certain. And just as I had initially thought, everything was exactly the way I left it. But I chose not to believe it: “Maybe they have been so busy looking for me that they haven't had any chance to do anything at home.” I tried to convince myself. I really hope that's not what I am thinking.
