Ch.18

I waited until 1 P.M. to call Aaron. I wasn't going to let him control me like he used to do. I already knew what to expect when he picked up the phone. I was right. He began yelling at me, saying I had him worried all night, and he was so concerned he was about to call the police. I told him to calm down and call off the search party. I told him I was fine, and I was safe. He asked where I was, and I told him he didn't need to know where I was at. That all he needed to know was I was fine. He started yelling again, saying I needed to tell him where I was at. I yelled back at him and told him he didn't have the right to question me. I told him that now that I am legally an adult he has to stop acting like he is my parent. I refused to tell him where I was, but I'm sure he knows I am with Caeleb. As soon as he started yelling at me again, I hung up on him and turned my phone back off. Caeleb asked if I wanted to order something for lunch and I told him that sounded good. We ended up picking China Wok. I got myself some teriyaki and orange chicken with white rice and Caeleb got Mongolian beef with fried rice. After the food arrived, we sat at the table and talked while we ate. I wanted to know more about Caeleb's past, but I wasn't sure how to ask him without possibly upsetting him or making him mad. I know a little about his past, but I'm curious about other things. After we ate, I asked Caeleb if he could take me back to the house, so I could get some clothes and a few other things I needed. He was hesitant but he said he would. I got myself ready to go, and we headed to the house. Caeleb pulled up at the end of the driveway and I told him to wait there in case Aaron wanted to start things. I got out and went inside. As soon as I closed the door, Aaron came into the foyer. He stood there with a weird look on his face. I went to walk past him, and he grabbed me by the arm. "Where the hell have you been, Skyla?" "It doesn't matter where I've been, Aaron. I am an adult and I don't have to explain myself to you or anyone. Now, if you don't mind letting me go, I need to go to my room." "Since you are an adult now, I expect you to start helping pay bills if you are going to stay here." "Excuse me? Help you pay bills that our parents left you money to pay? I don't think so." "The money that Mom and Dad left isn't going to last forever, Skyla." "Oh, I know It isn't, especially when you are using it to party almost every night, Aaron. Mom and Dad left that money for us to pay bills and survive comfortably, not for you to use to support your partying habit. It isn't just your money. It is our money. This isn't just your house. It is our house. Mom and Dad left this house to both of us. I can stay in this house for free." "How dare you accuse me of partying the money away. What I do with the money Mom and Dad left me, is my business." "Ok. What about the money they left me? Oh, you thought I wouldn't find out about that, didn't you? Or what about the money they left for my first car? Yeah. I know about all of it. I made an appointment and had a nice long chat with Mr. Thomas." "What? When?" "A few days ago." "What did he tell you?" "Everything I just said to you, Aaron. Now let go of me and move." Aaron let go of my arm and I pushed him out of the way. I went upstairs to my room and closed the door. I sighed in relief. It felt good to stand up to him. I grabbed a bag and got some clothes together. I grabbed my stuff from the bathroom. Before I walked out, I grabbed my chargers and my laptop. I put them in my bag and I walked out of my room. I headed down the hall toward the front door. I was expecting Aaron to try and stop me from leaving, but he was nowhere in sight. I walked out the door and got back in Caeleb's truck. We headed back to the condo in silence. I knew he wanted to ask me what happened, but I was glad he was waiting for me to open up. When we got back to the condo, he grabbed my bag and we went inside. He took my bag into the bedroom and made room in his dresser for my clothes. I unpacked my bag and told him thank you. I sat down on the couch and zoned out. I guess Caeleb could tell I wasn't in the right headspace. He came and sat next to me and told me he was talking me out for some fresh air, and then we were going to dinner.
