Aaron wasn't up this morning when I got up for work. I'm glad he was because I'm sure I would have said something about him threatening Caeleb. I made myself an egg sandwich and a glass of orange juice. When I finished my sandwich, I headed out to the field. It was going to be hard for me not to want to talk to Caeleb like we've been doing but I know have to hold back so he doesn't lose his job. When I got out to the field Caeleb was already standing out by the wheat bales. I headed over to him and nodded. He nodded back at me and we began working. Here and there he would whisper to me while he had his head down and I had to keep from reacting to what he was saying. He was making it hard not to react because everything he was whispering to me was either dirty or him saying he missed my lips against his. I know I blushed a few times but thankfully being out in the sun and the heat today made it easier to say I was just hot. When break time came, I headed back to the house to grab something to drink and a snack. When I got there Jenna was sitting at the table. "Skyla, I'm sorry your friend doesn't want to talk to you anymore. I wish there was something I could do to help you with that." I just stared at her. In my head, I was saying there is something she could do. Tell my brother to stay out of my business but I knew if I said anything and she told Aaron, it would cost Caeleb his job. I kept my thought to myself. "Thanks, Jenna. I don't think there is anything you could do. It's ok. I'm used to being lonely." "Skyla, if you are interested, I have spa certificates that are going to expire soon and I was thinking maybe you would like to come with me this weekend?" "You really want me to come with you?" "Yes. I think you and I should spend some time together since I don't plan on leaving Aaron. I think we need to get to know each other better and maybe become friends." "Is Aaron going to let me go? I mean he never lets me do anything." "Don't worry about that. I will deal with Aaron." "Ok. I would like to go with you, Jenna." "Ok, then I will call and set us up an appointment for Saturday morning." After my break, I headed back to the field. Caeleb was getting out of his truck when I pulled back up. We got back to work. We tried keeping the talking to a few things here and there and about the wheat bales but it was hard. I caught myself staring at him a few times and quickly looked down to avoid being seen by him or the guys. When we got the last bale of wheat ready to be put on the truck, I found myself in a daze. "Skyla." "Skyla." "Earth to Skyla." I snapped out of and looked over to find Caeleb and Sal. "Huh?" "Are you ok, Skyla?" "Yeah. Sorry, I spaced. I think the heat has gotten to me." "Go home and drink some water and rest. I'll call Aaron and let him know." "You don't have to call him, Sal. I'm perfectly capable of going home and rehydrating myself and getting rest on my own. Plus if you call him, he may blame you for this." "Sh*t. You are right. I don't want to get blamed for it. Fine. Go home drink plenty of water and get some sleep." I plan on it." Caeleb walked behind me as I walked to the cart. "Are you ok, Skyla?" "I'm fine. It isn't the heat. I was just in a daze." Caeleb looked around us. "Were you thinking about me?" "Maybe." I didn't give him a chance to say anything else. I started the cart and pulled away. When I got home. Jenna was pulling in. When she got out of the car she had a big smile on her face. She told me that Aaron was ok with me going to the spa with her. I talked to her for a few minutes and then went inside to take a shower. When I got out I put on a T-shirt and my pajama shorts and laid back on my bed. I stared at the ceiling for a while before getting up to go make myself dinner. When I walked into the kitchen Jenna was at the stove cooking. "What are you doing?" "I'm making dinner. Skyla." "You know how to cook?" "Yes, I know how to cook." "Why have I been doing all the cooking then?" "I'm sorry, Skyla. I let partying get the better of me. I am really a good person I just got caught up in all the partying." "Thank god someone other than me knows how to cook in this house. What are you making?" "I figured I'd make my famous barbeque chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and homemade biscuits." "That sounds good!" "I'll call you when it's done. Go sit back and relax." "Sweet! Thank you, Jenna."
