Feeling cold and abandoned, I wrapped myself in his shirt and ventured through the house in search of him. Finding Emmet in his room, gazing out into the storm, I couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. "Penny for your thoughts?" I asked softly, my voice barely above a whisper. He turned to me, his expression reflecting a mixture of remorse and longing. "I'm sorry for leaving you like that," he murmured, his words heavy with regret. "But if I went to second base, there would have been no stopping me from going through all the bases tonight." He sighed deeply, his gaze flickering between us. "I want this," he confessed, his voice tinged with vulnerability. "I want this with you. But we have to go slow. I have no control over myself when I'm around you." "I want this with you too," I replied, my voice filled with determination. "I felt out of control too. We'll have to work on self-control, and I believe we'll be able to do that." As lightning flashed and the thunder grew louder, I sent a quick message to my mom, letting her know I'd be waiting out the storm at Emmet's house. "When the rain lets up, I'll head home," I reassured him. But Emmet's desire was evident as he strode over and kissed me once more. "I don't want you to leave," he confessed, pulling me close and holding me tightly against his chest. I couldn't resist the urge to kiss him back, pouring my emotions into every touch. His hands moved to my waist, lifting me effortlessly as we made our way to his bed. We talked for what felt like hours, but as I noticed the rain had stopped, sadness overtook my expression. "What's wrong?" Emmet asked, concern evident in his voice. "It stopped raining," I murmured. "It means I have to go." His expression mirrored mine as he sat up straight. "I'll walk you out," he said, determination in his voice. The following morning, my alarm jolted me awake, but surprisingly, I felt refreshed and well-rested. As I stretched in bed, basking in the warmth of my cozy blankets, I couldn't shake the excitement bubbling within me. Today was a new day, and I was eager to see Emmet at school. I glanced at the clock and realized I had plenty of time to prepare. Slipping out of bed, I made my way to the bathroom, feeling a sense of anticipation building with each step. The sound of running water filled the room as I turned on the shower, the steam enveloping me in a comforting embrace as I let the warm water cascade over my skin. After my shower, I stood in front of the mirror, contemplating my appearance for the day ahead. Today felt different somehow, and I wanted to reflect that in my appearance. With a newfound sense of confidence, I decided to try something different with my hair. Reaching for my Dyson air wrap, I carefully sectioned my hair, wrapping each strand around the barrel to create soft, bouncy curls. It was a departure from my usual style, but I felt a sense of excitement as I watched my hair transform before my eyes. As I finished styling my hair, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and couldn't help but smile. This was the new me, the version of myself that was ready to embrace change and step out of my comfort zone. Feeling satisfied with my appearance, I slipped into Emmet's shirt, inhaling deeply as his intoxicating scent enveloped me. It was a comforting reminder of the connection we shared, and I felt a surge of warmth spread through me. With a sense of anticipation coursing through my veins, I grabbed my bag and headed out the door, ready to face the day ahead with a newfound sense of excitement and confidence. Today was going to be a good day. As I arrived at school, a sense of unease settled over me. I took my time getting out of the car, gathering my things and preparing myself mentally for the day ahead. Making my way to my locker, I followed the familiar route I always took, the hallways bustling with students going about their morning routines. As I stowed away the books I didn't need until after break, a sudden voice startled me from behind. "Ali," it was Allen. My heart raced as I turned to face him, uncertainty swirling in my mind. I had rehearsed this moment countless times in my head, but now that it was here, I felt at a loss for words. "Hey, Allen," I managed to say, my voice betraying none of the turmoil within me. "Can we talk?" he asked, his expression serious. "Yes, sure. I want to talk to you too," I replied, trying to mask the apprehension in my voice. "Perfect," he said, a hint of eagerness in his tone. "Can we do it now?" "The sooner the better," I agreed, my mind racing with what I needed to say. We walked in silence to the tree in the lunch square, seeking the privacy it offered. Allen took a deep breath, steeling himself for the conversation ahead. "I think we should try this for real," he began, his words hanging in the air between us. Shock rippled through me, catching me off guard. "You what?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "Yes, I feel like this could be real," he explained, his gaze earnest. "Oh, wow," I murmured, struggling to process his unexpected confession. "I was actually going to suggest we break up this fake relationship," I admitted, my words tinged with regret. "For real?" he questioned, disbelief coloring his tone. "Yes, for real. Right now, it's becoming the thing I was trying to avoid," I confessed, the weight of my decision settling heavily on my shoulders. "I'm sorry, Allen. I hope we can still remain friends," I said softly, turning to leave. But before I could take another step, he reached out and grabbed my arm, his grip firm. "No, Allen, please don't," I pleaded, my eyes darting past him to where Emmet stood, watching our interaction with a tense expression. I needed to get away before things escalated further before Emmet's protective instincts kicked in. It was too early to head to first period, so I decided to take a moment to myself in the bathroom, hoping to gather my thoughts and calm the whirlwind of emotions inside me. When I emerged, I found Emmet waiting for me, his presence instantly filling me with warmth and anticipation. "Morning, pretty lady," he greeted me with a charming smile, sending my heart aflutter. With his mere presence, the fake breakup and everything else seemed like distant memories. "Hi, Em," I greeted him in return, a playful twinkle in my eye. Being the only student who knew his first name felt like a secret between us, adding an extra layer of intimacy to our interactions. "I want to kiss you so badly," I confessed, unable to resist the pull of my desire. "Why don’t you?" he challenged, his gaze intense and inviting. "Well, technically I just fake broke up with my fake boyfriend," I explained with a sheepish grin. "So I think it would be rude to rub that in his face." "You have a point there," he conceded with a sigh, his disappointment evident. "But tonight at six pm, I'll be all yours," I promised, unable to contain the excitement bubbling within me. A mischievous smile danced on my lips, betraying the anticipation building inside me. "You're a tease, you know," he teased back, his words laced with desire. "The images and thoughts you left in my mind last night were unbearable." "You always have tonight to work on new memories to replace the previous ones," I flirted playfully, a suggestive glint in my eye. "Don’t start this early, I might just skip my shift at The Diner," I added, more as a statement of fact than a threat, already considering the enticing possibility. "I promise to wear only our t-shirt tonight," I teased, a devious twinkle in my eye hinting at the mischief to come. "And what do you plan to do with Emily?" he joked, playing along with our banter. "Well, she goes to bed early, doesn’t she?" I quipped back with a smirk, relishing in the teasing exchange. With a playful wink, I turned to head to class, leaving Emmet with the promise of tonight lingering in the air between us. It's true, Emmet has a way of bringing out the tease in me, pushing me to explore new levels of playful banter and flirtation. And you know what? I'm loving every moment of it. I can't believe how happy he makes me feel. Tonight is going to be unforgettable. I've been brewing up a storm of ideas, and I intend to keep Emmet wide awake until the early hours. We might resemble zombies tomorrow, but it'll be worth it for the memories we'll make tonight. There's a mischievous glint in my eye as I imagine the fun we'll have, the laughter, the whispers, and the shared moments that will stretch into the wee hours of the morning. This is going to be a night to remember.
