Opening her eyes, the bright white room before her made her frown. Just a moment ago she was sleeping alongside Lucas and Ria. Panic hit her like a truck.
System? System 773?!
No one answered back. A figure slowly formed in front of her scaring the s**t out of her as she turned around to run.
"Please don't run. I am not scary. I won't hurt you." The voice spoke reassuringly.
Realizing the fact that there was nowhere to hide, Amelia hardened her heart and turned around to see a person looking exactly like Amelia Martin.
"Please, I only have two wishes. Just help me reconcile with my grandfather. And make Liam pay for what he did to me. Please!" The voice sounded desperate enough to make Amelia frown.
If she guessed it right, she must be the original owner of this body. The original Amelia.
"You gave up everything for what? A man?" Amelia admonished while the previous owner lowered her head. She was young, yes but she wasn't a toddler who needs someone to teach her everything. The few mistakes she made ended up in the worst way possible. If anyone should be blamed, it would still be her.
"Please. Just help me. I'll never appear again." She begged while Amelia's frown deepened.
"When the system actually told me you would tell me your wishes. I didn't think it would be like this... That too in person." Amelia answered truthfully. More like she expected the system to present the original owner's wishes on a screen like the others.
"Then will you?" The previous owner urged while Amelia sighed.
"It's not like I have a choice since it was written in the guidelines that I need to fulfill your wishes too. And thankfully they don't collide with mine." Amelia muttered while the previous owner jumped in happiness.
"Thank you so much. I don't have any time left. Then until next time." She bowed before disappearing into thin air while gave Amelia chills.
"Well, that was so abrupt," Amelia muttered before she lost her consciousness.
~.~
"...............Mia!" Amelia opened her eyes to see a very familiar desk and an equally familiar office. Her hazy eyes landed on the photo frame on the desk. It was her, wasn't it? It was a childhood picture of her's which she remembers putting at her workplace.
She couldn't process anything for a moment when someone jerked her shoulder.
"You can't be sleeping right? Didn't Mike ask you to submit your designs today?" Her colleague Katie questioned taking a seat beside her.
"Design? What design? And how are you- you here?" Amelia questioned her with a frown.
"Are you still dreaming? Why wouldn't I be here when I work here?" Katie scoffed rolling her eyes.
"Wha- What? No- no... I was- but-" Amelia stammered in confusion.
Was all that a dream? No way! Especially when she just accepted the previous owner's wishes too. She thought in disbelief turning to face her design book.
This was her's.
"Mom!" Lucas ran towards her while Amelia looked at him in horror moving back from him a bit.
"Lu- Lucas? How are you here?" Amelia blurted out while Katie chuckled.
"What happened to you, Mia? You bought him here." She answered.
"Huh?!" Amelia felt her head spin. Black dots clouded her vision and she was out like a light.
~.~
Waking up with a jerk, Amelia looked around immediately. She was in the previous owner's bedroom, thankfully. Her heart was beating so loud that she could even hear it. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down.
Rubbing the sweat on her forehead, her gaze fell on the two little worms buried inside the blanket beside her.
The corner of her lips turned up at the sight. It was just a dream. But why did she have that kind of dream? It was like both her previous life and present life were mixed.
System?
Yes, Host. The system answered while Amelia finally smiled with reassurance.
Was that the original owner I met? She questioned as she pulled the blanket neatly on her side and putting pillows so they won't roll off.
Yes, host. Sorry for startling you. I forgot to inform you about it.
The system apologized while Amelia raised her brow.
It's ok, system. The main issue is how do I fulfill her wishes?
She questioned heading towards the washroom.
Actually, host, you can fulfill them at your pace. We have turned her wishes into missions so we can alert you when the right opportunity arises.
The system spoke while Amelia bit her lip.
Well, then I assume I don't need to think about it for now?
She questioned brushing her teeth.
That depends on the situation host. But if you prefer to wait for a while to do those missions we can put them on hold for a while.
The system answered.
Ok... so I want to settle first before completing them.
Amelia spoke contemplating for a good while.
As you wish host. The system answered while Amelia came out of the bathroom finishing her business and changed into a neat looking coral printed cotton dress. She brushed all the creases neatly.
Also, host, your daily missions start from today.
The system reminded while Amelia widened her eyes.
Oh yeah! I completely forgot about them. Show me what the daily missions are system.
Amelia spoke walking into the kitchen to search for anything edible.
A screen popped out of nowhere but Amelia wasn't surprised anymore.
She looked at it for a good moment.
Missions for the day.
Play with Ria and Lucus for at least an hour. (Time left: 60 minutes) - 10 EPs
Carry the kids in your arms. (At least three times) - 20 EPs
Search for job options. (If you have a particular job you want to do please inform.) - 10 EPs
Look for a good house. (No time limit) - 20 EPs
Familiarize yourself with the world. (Get to know what's happening in society.) - 30 EPs
Bathe the kids. (Since the host has no experience in it) - 10 EPs
That's all for the day. (The quests may change from day to day)
Reading the missions, Amelia felt they were a lot easier. Maybe that's why they are called daily quests?
Well, anyway, it's better this way to get used to her life.
"Wahhhhhhhh!" A cry echoed from the bedroom while Amelia closed the refrigerator door shut and walked towards the bed.
Ria was sitting on the bed crying while Lucas was still asleep. Amelia walked towards Ria who looked at her with her big doe eyes. She raised her arms towards her with a pout.
"Good morning Ria," Amelia spoke while taking Ria into her arms who hugged her tightly and hid in her face in Amelia's neck.
Ding! Daily Missions - Carry the kids in your arms - Ria (Two times left.)
Between, what should I do with the kids? I can't just leave them alone, can I? Do I have to leave them in the neighbor's house again?
She asked the system concerned.
Yes, host. There seems no other way. Or you could bring them to the court.
The system suggested while Amelia frowned.
No, it's better to leave them with the neighbors. I don't want them to get attached to their father or him getting attached to them. Because they will be staying with me.
Amelia said with conviction. She had taken a liking to the kids now. She can't have them separated.
But at the same time, she cannot have Marie helping out for free. That would be against her values.
She needs to think of a way. Soon.
Leaving that aside, she needs to search for the documents and also-
Wait a minute! Did Ria- On her dress-
Amelia hugged her waist with her hand tightly before putting her hand on Ria's bum.
It was wet.
Amelia felt her mind blown off by the fact that Ria just peed on her.
Amelia's face twisted many times before she sighed deeply.
Well, it's a normal thing. It's ok she just has to wash up again. Again!
Amelia pouted as she walked into the bathroom to get Ria cleaned first.
After all the ordeal, she opened the cupboard and started searching for the required documents. It took her a while but she eventually found the marriage certificates but she realized she didn't have any property certificates or assets. Keeping in mind that she was unemployed and had no assets, what if the court decides that the kids should stay with Liam? What if they say she is not eligible enough to take care of the kids?
She did see it in some movies.
System, how are the chances of the kids going with me?
She questioned as she sat down on the bed. Subconsciously, she started patting Ria's back who was right now standing with her support and busy poking her cheeks and pulling her hair.
Who would have expected her to be this good at childcare? Even she didn't since she had never been in the vicinity of children and it has been just a day.
How could she grow so attached to them? It's just comfortable with them. Maybe because this body gave birth to them that a connection was established between her and them.
A small smile crept in.
Host, the chances are 61%. Even if the mother is unemployed, the court can grant the mother full rights to the kids and also let the father pay alimony and child support.
The system explained in detail while Amelia felt like she was learning more about law than she expected.
After reassuring her heart with the system's words, she went to the kitchen to prepare something for the kids.
Looking at the empty kitchen, she heaved a sigh.
"Then cereal it is!" She muttered picking the cereal box above the fridge.
She then used the leftover milk to mix it together.
I need to learn more about the food kids eat. Not only that, I need to learn how to make them.
System, is there a way I can turn this into a mission? That way it would remind me to practice.
Amelia asked with a cheeky smile.
Yes, host, you can. If you want I can gather information about the food items from the system store. You can buy the manual there and practice. I can include it in your daily missions if you want.
Amelia thought about it for a minute before replying.
System, it's better to wait until the divorce procedures are completed. You can include it after that.
Amelia felt it was better that way considering she wouldn't have time to do everything at the same time.
She just hoped everything would go smooth with the divorce.
Bringing Ria and the bowl of cereal to the bedroom she woke up Lucas.
"Lucas, wake up." She patted his bum but he didn't move a muscle. She then shook his back successfully waking him up. She didn't know why Lucas looked so grumpy waking up.
He just crawled towards her and hugged her tightly with a sad pout making Amelia concerned.
What made her even more distressed was the fact that she felt him shiver a little.
Putting Ria on the center of the bed, she hugged Lucas while taking him into her arms.
"Shhh, baby. What's wrong?" She spoke softly while Lucas didn't open his mouth.
Did he have a bad dream? She questioned the system with a frown.
I think so too host. The system added. Her heart felt heavy all of a sudden.
"Shh, it's ok Lucas. Mom is here. See, mom is hugging you. It's just a bad dream." Amelia spoke patting his back while Lucas almost buried himself into her.
Ria looked at them with her doe eyes. She crawled her way to Lucas and kept pulling his pant making him cry even more.
"No Ria, don't pull that." Amelia admonished Ria who ignored her kept on pulling making Lucas cry even more.
"Ria!" Amelia narrowed her eyes as she lightly tapped Ria's hand who immediately cried out making Amelia curse herself.
Host, you shouldn't have hit her.
I didn't hit her, I just tapped her hand so she would let his pants go.
Amelia justified herself. She definitely didn't know Ria would cry like that.
It's the same thing host.
How is that the same thing?
Amelia felt exhausted by the time they both stopped crying. Ria directly fell asleep again. She felt really thankful for their unlimited sleeping capacity. She fell on the bed with a thump. She also has to bathe them now.
It was a mistake to say she was good at childcare. A huge one.
"Mom..." Lucas whispered hugging her neck.
"What is it, Lucas?" She questioned while Lucas just sat in her lap without another word.
Amelia sighed. The least she could do was distract him from his sad mood.
"Let's play blocks?" She pointed towards the living room while Lucas nodded his head. He knew simple words like blocks and play now.
It hit her that this was her first time carrying him.
Walking into the living room she placed him in her lap and brought all the blocks in front of them.
System, can you help me build blocks?
Amelia asked doubtfully as well as a little embarrassed as she picked one of the blocks.
I do know how to host.
The system replied without a change in its tone while Amelia felt even embarrassed.
And that's how a one on one session for building blocks started.
