4 Meet an Old Friend Again

1318 Words
The twins wondered where their father was after Mia told Mark about a little boy who looked just like him. They have learned that most brothers and sisters look like each other, just like the two, but their mother never mentions their father. At first, they thought they didn't have a father; and never knew what the word father meant, but when they went to school, they learned that all children have fathers except for them. But they never asked their mother what happened to their father even though they still yearn for fatherly love like all the other children. When the two children went to bed that night, both wished they had someone to call daddy. Look how tired they are, Emily thought as she watched her twins, assuming they were exhausted from the long flight, and without thinking about it, she turned off the lights and hugged them. Early the following day, Emily received a phone call. "Professor Camille! Please come to the hospital to see the patients." Emily frowned. She was already an internationally renowned doctor. It stands to reason that she had just returned home and had to rest well before she could treat patients. However, the caller is the Dean of the hospital where she will start to work. Looking at her children, Emily sighed helplessly and got up. She gently woke the kids up and got them dressed. After breakfast was ready, they quickly ate, and once they were done, Emile took the kids and drove off to the hospital. "Stay here and don't wander off," Emily told the kids and showed them to sit on the chairs next to the Dean's office. "Professor Camille, you are here at last." As soon as he saw Emily, the Dean walked towards her with a smile and shook Emily's hand. Emily returned a friendly smile and followed Dean into the office. "These are the patient's information." The Dean looks friendly. He still has a pair of glasses hanging on his nose. "The patient doesn't know that her disease is uncontrollable, but this operation should be a piece of cake for an expert like you!" Looking through the medical records, Emily listened and nodded; she ignored the last part. After all, it was her job to make people healthy again. This is what she loves doing, saving people's life. She will have to see the patient before she makes any decision on when and where to operate. After reading the data, Emily picked the medical records up and pulled out the personal profile. "Anna."     When she saw this name, Emily' narrowed her eyes, and the pain from five years ago seemed to come back all over again! The Dean smiled, "Yes, she is a very important patient here at our hospital," he said proudly like she was some celebrity. "You have just returned to Los Angles, Mr. Robert Jones owns this hospital, and if we don't find a way to help her, we will all be fired and-" Emily stares at the file in her hand, not listening to what the Dean says. Five years she used five years to forget this pain. If it weren't for the fact that she survived, then if the doctor didn't save her and her children, she wouldn't be standing here. "I won't do it." Emily sneered. She was angry as she recalled what Anna did to her that faithful night. She threw the medical records on the table, ignored the shouts of the Dean behind her, pushed open the door, and took her children; then, she walked out of the hospital. Emily strapped the kids in their car seats and handed them a phone, "I am going to make a quick phone call," She told them and closed the door before calling the only person she could count on now. "Hello?" A woman's voice on the other side answered lazily. "Lola! Do you have any extra rooms? I have a favore to ask. Can my children stay with you for a little while?" Luckily the kids were busy watching a movie on one of the phones as she stood outside the car. She doesn't want the kids to hear what she is talking about. "Who am I speaking to?" The woman asked, confused. "It's me, Emily!" "Well, Hello to you too; I haven't seen you for so many years, and when you finally call, you don't even greet me. You just asked me to do you a favor after disappearing from the face of the earth! You know you really wound me here, Emily!" Lola scolds Emily. Emily knew she was wrong, but she was desperate. She didn't know who else to call. "I tell you what, bring breakfast over when you come, and maybe, just maybe, I will forgive you," Lolla said with a chuckle. Lola has mostly stayed the same over the years. She always loved food; whenever they disagreed, all Emily had to do was buy food. Emily laughed as she listened to her best friend. "Thank you, Lola; I will see you late," Emily replied before hanging up. Emily drove back to her apartment and placed some clothes for the kids in a bag, "Mommy, where are we going?" Mia asked as she watched her mother. "We are going to one of Mommy's friends," Emily smiled. She will tell the kids they will stay at Lola for a while. "Come on, Mia, Mark; we are going out." Emily holds Mia in one hand, and Mark in the other grabs them and drives out. Now that she knows Anna is at the hospital she is working, and realizes she will bump into Robert sooner or later. He may doubt the death certificate of that year when he sees that she is not dead if he finds out that the famous doctor Camille is, in fact, his dead ex-wife. Emily knows that if that happens, Robert and Anna will do anything to take her children away from her. These two rascals are her life; she will never give them to others! She knows she sounds selfish but won't give her children away. They finally arrive at Lola's place, and Emily takes the children out and walks up to the door. Emily knocked hard on the door, and the door was gently opened. Lola opened the door and yawned; she was still sleeping when someone knocked; she was tired and wanted to scold the person for waking her up, but when Lola saw the child in Emily's arms, and remembered that she just spoke to Emily. "What a beautiful boy!" Lola leaned over and hugged Mark, kissing and pinching his cheek and making weird noises occasionally. Mark secretly rolled his eyes! He didn't like what she was doing at all. Seeing that Lola liked her boy, Emily breathed a sigh of relief and explained things as best as she could before returning to the hospital.     Anna smashed and scolded in the ward, "It pisses me off!" She didn't expect that the doctor would dare to go against them! The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. Anna held the water cup and tried to smash it again, but she heard the door open and saw Robert walking in. "Robert." Anna immediately put back the water cup. Looking at the mess, Robert was silent. "Robert, it's not what you think!" To save her from embracement, Anna sadly said,  "When I heard that the doctor doesn't want to operate on me, I lost my temper," Anna explained the best that she could, then looked at Robert again, "Why are you here?" Robert ignored her and thought there must be some mistake. The Dean informed him that the new doctor was there and had already checked on Anna. He wanted to know what was happening, and without answering Anna, he walked out again, slamming the door shut.
