Chapter Six

Third Party POV

Maeve was awoken by a light tap on her arm. When she opened her eyes she saw Ben looking down at her.

“We have arrived, Ms Knight” he said gently. He was very different to her mate, softer and lighter in looks and personality.

“Thanks Ben but please it’s just Maeve. Where is the Alpha?” Maeve didn’t feel comfortable using first names with him due to his less than warm welcome of her.

“I’m afraid he has already gone inside. He has asked to not be disturbed and for me to show you to your room”

Maeve nodded her head and stepped from the car. She was immediately in awe of the building standing before her. The Blood Mood pack house more closely resembled a mansion than a house.

Ben had already started moving toward the house with her bags leaving Maeve to run to catch up.

When they got inside, they began to climb the stairs to the first level and walked down the end of the hall.

Ben opened a door and brought her bags in. “This will be your room. You’ll be staying on the same floor as the other pack members” Ben said awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck while turning red. This was not normal. The mate of the Alpha always shared the same floor as him.

Maeve’s heart ached at the blatant rejection while Dara whimpered moving further away from Maeve to tend to the fresh wound.

“Alpha also requested that I, um, told you some of his, uh, rules…for you” it was clear from Ben’s voice that he felt awkward and Maeve saw the pity flash through his eyes again. He knew this was going to happen before they left her pack.

“okay” she whispered quietly, surprised she could get even that word past the lump forming in her throat.

“You are not allowed leave the pack grounds without permission. You are not allowed to contact anyone outside of this pack. You are not allowed to speak to the Alpha unless directly spoken to. You must obtain approval from the Alpha, through me, if you want to do things that involve interacting with other pack members. You must be in your room by 7pm every night and not leave until 9.30am the next morning and you are to take all your meals in your room. Breaking any of these rules will end in punishment” when Ben finished, his eyes were filled with sadness as he looked at the small shewolf, he then turned and left the room.

As soon as Ben left the room Maeve couldn’t supress the sobs anymore.

Maeve’s POV

I dropped to the ground with my back pressed against the door. I heaved sobs into my knees as I cradled myself.

My mate has put me in a prison of his own making. My heart felt as though someone stuck their hand in my chest and was trying to squeeze the last bit of life out of it.

Not only did my mate not want to see or speak to me, it seemed he wanted me to be completely alone.

I cried in a ball on the ground for what felt like hours before I finally had the strength to make it to my bed, only to continue to cry there to.

At some point I must have fallen asleep because I was now being awoken by a tall and lean brunette. She was honestly the most beautiful girl I had ever seen but for some reason she seemed scared and skittish.

“I was asked to bring your food” she says nervously, glancing over her shoulders.

“are you alright?” I enquire.

“I’m not allowed to talk to you” she says quickly before thrusting the tray at me and running out of the room.

Not allowed? Has he really gone as far as to ban people from talking to me?

I pushed my food aside, the pain in my chest suppressing any feelings of hunger.

A knock came at the door and in walked Ben.

“you haven’t eaten” he stated

I looked down at my hands “I’m not hungry”

He sighs “I come with information from the Alpha”

I look up my heart fluttering at the mention of him. Maybe he realised his mistake. I smiled up at Ben who just slowly shook his head at me as though reading my thoughts. My heart dropped into my stomach.

“He wishes to inform you that you will be acting as a servant in the pack house. You will be working with Anja on the Beta and Gamma floors” he looked at me apologetically.

Me. His mate. A servant.
