Aine’s POV: Adrenaline was coursing through my veins. My heart felt like it was going to jump from my chest. I mentally berated myself to be calm. I stared down the corridor again and then tried to make myself as small as possible against the wall. When I reached the stairs, I started to run down them, frantically searching for Cale’s scent. I took a couple of wrong turns but, eventually, in the kitchens, I could sense him. I found the door which led further down, to the dungeons. The smell of blood and death hit me like a rock on the head. I tried not to breathe through my mouth as the smell was very overpowering, but the stench still suffocated me.
