Chapter Seven
I had never cried so much before in my life. The mental picture of Emily in Nick’s arms kept replaying itself inside my head over and over until I thought I’d really lose it.
I felt like I was dead and alive at the same time and living inside my own shadowy dream. My absolute existence had come to end. I was no longer aware of who I was or where I belonged.
Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Nick. I powered the phone off and dropped it to the floor. Jacob said nothing to me as we drove toward the horizon. I couldn’t tell him what had happened because it was too painful to put it into words. I just kept crying inconsolably and staring outside the passenger window.
