He needed to be involved in his case to show Silas that he could depend on him. To prove someone other than Grace had Silas’s back, because Troy desired the man to the point his bones literally ached.
But taking an active part in defending him against the District Attorney’s office meant no fraternizing, even though Noah hadn’t outright demanded he stay away from Silas. If they attempted an affair in secret and got found out, his reputation as well as Silas’s would be ruined.
