Chapter 11

SIENNA I really loved how Kahlan cleared his throat and then took a sip of water because he simply couldn’t handle my gaze. And I hadn’t even started acting yet.  “So,” our new “head” as in the d*ckhead said after he coughed a few times again, “As I was saying before. Thank you all for your trust. We have a lot of work ahead of us. And I have some tasks that I have to assign to you. There are matters we need to tackle…”   I took a jug of water and started pouring some into my glass. As loudly as I could. And slowly. Very slowly.   Childish, yes. But I couldn’t help it. I was a witch after all.   Kahlan cleared his throat again and I moved my glass to him. He looked at me slightly shocked and I raised my brow, “You look like you need it more.”   “Well,” he took the papers before him in his hands and started looking for something, “The first matter that we need to discuss is the rise of the Silverbeak Coven in the East, they look power-hungry and…”   “Done,” I interrupted and moved a folder towards him, “This is a signed pact with them. They will not bother us for the next one hundred years. They only have a problem with their neighbouring coven and rightfully so. I promised them our help in return for loyalty and they were happy to give a magical oath. To me.”   Silence.   “Great job, Sienna,” Kahlan forced himself to praise me, “Moving on to the next one. We need to raise extra money to build new houses for the new witch families. The coven is growing way too fast.”   “Also done,” I snorted and threw another folder at him, “Since I promised to help the Silverbeak with their little problem, they offered money in return since loyalty alone wasn’t enough. I invested the funds and we will see dividends next month. It’s safe since it’s my brother’s company and it’s doing really well.”   Silence again. Usually, those meetings are a lot louder.   “Then how about the lack of herbs that grow in warmer counties only,” Kahlan looked at me, looking slightly reddish in the face.   “Same folder, I negotiated a deal with brilliant terms,” I smirked, “Anything else on the agenda, Head?”   “No, that would be all,” he admitted, “Great work, Sienna.”   “As always,” Jared chuckled, “You really did not know all that, oh great and mighty leader?”   I shot an appreciative gaze at him. Jared was one of those I could always count on. And he was literally the only one here who did not betray me.   “I had no idea Sienna was so… initiative,” the warlock next to me now looked pale.   “Well, I wanted to be done with everything fast and celebrate my appointment, you know, before my closest people stabbed me in the back,” I leaned on the back of my chair, “But since we are done with all that and the Head has nothing else for us, I have something.”   All eyes were on me and I tapped my well-manicured red nails over the top of the desk.   “Someone tried to kill me,” I said loud and clear, “On the day of the election.”   “What?!” Aaron Riverford gasped so sincerely as if he didn’t betray me.   “Yeah,” I smirked, “It was a pathetic attempt that failed as you can see. But I would like to deal with it nonetheless. My brother the Alpha King also has an investigation of his own. So, I am positive that we find out everything pretty fast.”   “Then why are you telling us?!” Harmony snarled. Between her and Kahlan, the weakest link was definitely her.   “I am just giving a chance to whoever was a part of it to confess now before I come for you. And I will,” I announced and as usual, no one said a word. I could hear how a fly was flying in the next room to ours.   “You are not possibly implying,” Harmony squeaked.   “Of course, not,” I smirked, “I am giving my last warning. Think about it.”   Another minute of silence before our so-called leader cleared his throat.   “You need that checked, K,” I grinned.   “Ugh, erm, yeah… thanks,” he looked at me sheepishly, “Everyone is dismissed.”   I stood up and left first. Let them soak in all that mess.   I had so much to do for Kieran’s birthday and decided to go straight home. But met uncle Connor and Maeve on my way out.   “How was it?” he asked me. It was the first meeting he was not allowed to in years. He used to be the Head before and was supposed to be a representative of my family when I became the new one. But now I was on my own there.   “Honestly?” I let out a little laugh, “Amazing! Very satisfying!”   “That’s my girl!” he praised me with a wink.   “Impressive!” Maeve grinned, “Just remember, guys. That our Coven will take your clan in any day if you would like.”   “Thanks,” I snorted, “But we will get this one back.”   “That’s the spirit then,” she chuckled.   They were walking me to my car when I heard someone call my name.   “Sienna!” Elsa was in a hurry, “Just wait a second.”   “We’ll leave you then,” Connor hugged Maeve by her waist and they walked away.   “What do you want?” I crossed my hands on my chest as I looked at the witch approaching me. Elsa used to be Kieran’s girlfriend and she did not get over their breakup well. To be honest, she was the only one who did not surprise me at the election.    “To apologise,” she confessed, sighing, “Sienna, I wanted to send a message to your brother. To make you mention me to him… But…”   “It backfired and now Kahlan is our leader?” I raised my brow and she nodded.   “I should have suspected something when Harmony asked me who I would be voting for and smirked when I named Kahlan,” she shook her shoulders, “I thought that she would tell you and you tell Kieran…”   “We are not playing the broken phone here,” I rolled my eyes, “You want to talk to Kieran – go and talk to him! And leave me out of this. As you can see, I have enough of problems of my own!”   She nodded again.   “I guess,” she looked at me in a way that told me that this confession was not easy for her, “I wanted you to know that I wasn’t a part of it. And also, when you get back, I promise you my clan’s full support.”   “I am afraid, I am going to need that in writing and in blood,” I smirked but she still bowed her head respectfully.   “As you wish,” she said, “I will get it to you at the birthday party.”   “Good,” I smiled, “Don’t forget that it’s a black-tie event.”   “Really,” she looked at me in shock, “But he hates those!”   “Oh yes he does,” I grinned, “But it’s the whole point!”   She smirked back at me, “That’s why I always liked you, Sienna. You are a true witch.”   “Then prove it, Elsa,” I raised my brow at her and then turned and left for my car.   I was driving out from the Coven’s territory slowly today, and a few times it seemed to me that something was watching me from the woods. Yet somehow, I felt that I was not in any kind of danger…   I stopped the car and walked out of it, wishing for him to come out. Yet he didn’t. I could feel his presence nearby though. But Hunter was shy.   “I hope you don’t fail me!” I shouted into the woods before me, knowing that he was listening, “I am counting on you!”   And with that, I got back into my car and drove off.
