SULTANA: Once rejected, now desired

Sultana POV " I Logan Davidson, alpha of Blue moon pack reject you , Sultana Black as my mate and Luna." His hurtful words still ring in my mind everytime I try to think. I have to admit that hearing those words felt like a corrosion from a powerful acid. “ Sultana, your father is seeking your audience downstairs.” Maria, my personal maid, walked and stood behind me her smiling face reflected on the dressing table mirror. I had been sitting there for hours, observing my reflection and thinking about nothing and everything. She flashed me a smile and I smiled back. “ You don't have to beautify his words, Maria. I know he demanded that I be there.” I replied and she shrugged her shoulders. She has been with me since my mother passed away. She could be considered my second mother. “ I'll be there shortly.” I added, knowing fully well that there's no way I'll escape seeing my father. I tried smiling because that's all I do to mask my pain; smile and pretend everything is fine. I tied my hair into a ponytail and made my way downstairs. My father, stepmother, and stepsister were already seated in the living room. As I descended the stairs, everyone turned to look at me. “ You were looking for me, father?” I asked, hoping he didn't call me for another sermon. “ Take a seat. I have something important to discuss with you.” He said, and I did as instructed. “ You know, our family has a marriage arrangement with Prince Johan of the Lucland kingdom. We have to honor it, so tomorrow you will be leaving for Lucland to fulfil the alliance.” The words left my father's mouth while his eyes remained trained on me. I felt a painful stab in my chest with each word that escaped his lips. “ Last time I checked, Adassa was the one engaged to Prince Johan, father.” I could feel my anger rising, but I restrained myself. “ She's engaged and about to get married, Sultana.” My father reminded me and I scoffed. “ Engaged to my mate? I don't know what's funny? The fact that my sister seduced my mate, or the fact that my father is supporting such a relationship.” I mocked. I Know I have always been unwanted in this house, but who would have thought they were so eager to get rid of me? “ Shut up!” My father flared. “ It's precisely because of your attitude that your mate chose your sister over you. You don't know how to act like a lady.” My father reprimanded, making me frown. Does acting prim and proper, like a f*****g doll who is meek and obedient, make me a proper and ideal woman? My ideology of a proper woman differs from my father's. “ I like a submissive and gentle woman. I don't like stubborn and hot-headed women like you. That's why I fell in love with your sister. She is the kind of woman I want, and you are the opposite of that.” Those were my mate's words stating the absurd reason of his rejection. “ Didn't mother turn herself into the perfect wife material you wanted? You molded her to fit your taste but what happened at the end of the day, you still betrayed her.” I knew I was poking a beehive, but I needed to get this off my chest. For ten years, the image of my mother bathed in her blood has never stopped haunting my nights. She committed suicide after learning that her faithful husband not only had a mistress, he even bore a bastard daughter outside their marriage. Despite everything she did, despite even moving from her comfort zone to accommodate his taste, despite masking her pain and smiling even after he abused her physically, he never appreciated her. “ Watch what you are saying!” My father warned with a dangerous tone, but I was too angry to process his threat. “ Why father? You don't like hearing the truth? You killed my mother. It's all your fault that she took her life together with your mistress.” I challenged. “ You abused her, you broke her until she was left with nothing, yet she never complained. Is that how a woman should act in your eyes?” “ Now look at where we are. Just like the mother, the daughter has acquired the skills of climbing in other men's beds like the w***e she is." I spat venomously. A slap so loud that it echoed through the house was delivered to me. My ears started ringing while my vision turned blurry for a second. My father slapped me. He actually dared to raise his hands on me? " You raised your hand on me? For what? To protect your bastard daughter and mistress? You don't mind sending me off to unknown land as long as you can protect her? What about me? Am I not your daughter?" I choked out,tears streaming down my face. My father's differential treatment between the two of us was not something he hid from anybody. I actually never cared, but hearing him excuse Adassa from her responsibility had me fuming mad. " Father, please don't be angry with Sultana. It's all my fault. I should not have fallen in love with the Alpha. I will go to Lucland, don't force my sister." Adassa's pretentious voice rang in the air. She was sobbing hysterically while leaning on her mother. I rolled my eyes at her performance. It's a waste of talent that she isn't in the entertainment industry. " Adassa is going nowhere. She is my beloved and is expecting my baby." My mate's voice or should I say, ex-mate drew our attention to the entrance of the house. He marched to us, taking Adassa in his arms as she continued to sob hysterically. Pregnant? How come Adassa was pregnant for him? It's not been more than a month since I realised that Logan was my mate and within that span, he got her pregnant? Wow,! Just wow. " You don't have to pretend in front of me. Who doesn't know you'll be glad to get rid of me and have Logan all to yourself? News flash sister, I don't want him. I would rather die alone than have such a man as my mate." I spat, disgust chewing each word that left my lips. "The two of you are a perfect match. A pair made in heaven." I said to Adassa who widened her eyes with surprise. Logan's face remained emotionless and expressionless. Turning to look at the man who donated a sperm for my existence, I addressed the next words to me. " I will honour the marriage arrangement, not because you asked me to but because I would rather stay away from you and your disgusting family." I said before rushing upstairs. I bursted into tears the moment I closed the door. I could pretend to be strong in front of everyone but I was in pain. One of them is my father and the other is my mate. They both betrayed and casted me away. I always wanted to have a mate who would take me away from my family. I hated to see how happy they were even after killing my mother. My mother was not strong enough to fight for herself and me and I blame her for that. If she was here, maybe things would have turned out differently. Prince Johan of Lucland is rumoured to be cold and heartless. He is less favoured by the king because of his disability. Sending me to Lucland was a way to get rid of me. Since they want me out of their life so much, then I would leave, never to return again. It's not like anybody would be sad if I left. Well maybe with the exception of Maria. I swear to live my life according to my own rules. I will not allow anybody to manipulate or change who I am to suit his taste. " I promise you mama, I will not be like you. I will not accept to be maltreated while I remain silent. I will be my voice and the voice of others." I swore to myself before sleep consumed me.
