Between Two Mates

Chapter 10

-Helix POV-

“Young Alpha Dominic.” Cyrus says.

The big man is just as big as Domonic is.

“What is going on here.” Dominic demands.

“We are hunting.” Cyrus says now in a hushed tone so everyone else around in the party can’t hear it.

“What?” Dominic asks. “So close to the town and our packs?”

“Yes. What we are following has killed a few human hikers up in the mountains. We’ve tracked it in this direction.”

Dominic nods and turns to the party. “Party is over. Everyone needs to leave.”

“That sucks.” Harvey says.

Cooper, the girls, and I get closer to Cyrus and Dominic, trying to hear more of the conversation.

“Rogues?” Nova asks.

Cyrus shakes his head. “No. It’s something else.”

(Something else?)

“Cyrus!” A man calls.

He rushes out of the forest towards Cyrus.

“We found three more.”

“Three more what?” I ask.

The man looks at me but ignores me and looks back at Cyrus.

“Three more humans. By the looks of it, they came from this party.”

“Humans... wait! Dead humans?!” Cooper asks with shock.

“Oh shit.”

“If whatever is killing humans is this close to our packs, I think you need to talk to my father.” Dominic says.

Cyrus sighs and nods. “I was hoping to take care of this without having to use your pack's help but it seems I don’t have a choice. We’ll head there now.”

Dominic nods and now looks at Jet. I can hear Dominic giving a low growl at him.

Jet, who has been quiet this whole time standing next to Cyrus, looks at Nova and gives her a nod. “Nova.” He says.

Nova nervously laughs. “Hey... Jet.”

Dominic now full-on growls, he turns around, grabs Nova by the hand and they start walking away.

“You are reverting back to an ogre... you ogre.” Nova says.

Dominic just growls, annoyed, and then turns only towards Cooper. “I'll let your father know. He needs to be in this meeting too.” He looks back at Jet and with a huff, he walks away.

(Yep, they were definitely more than just friends... eew. What does any guy see in my sister?)

Cooper walks next to me, watching them leave.

“I guess... the party is over.” He says then looks at me. “Can I ride with you. I was planning on getting wasted tonight so I didn’t bring my car.”

I nod. “Yea.”

We all head out and meet in the packhouse but we are not allowed to go into the meeting except for Nova and Dominic since they will be the future leaders of our pack.

We sit in the backyard with a few other pack members that also came from the party, around a bonfire pit near the forest.

“That’s bull shit.” Cooper says.

We sit in the back of the packhouse around a bone fire.

“They treat us like kids.”

“Personally, I don’t care.” I say.

I have my own damn problems. On my left Rose sits and, on my right, Harper sits. I have also noticed that they slowly get closer to me.

“What do you think it is though? They said it wasn’t rogues.” Harper asks.

“Could be a wild animal or even... a werewolf from a pack that has gone crazy. It has happened before. A werewolf from a pack can go crazy and go on a killing spree.” Cooper says.

“What if it is something else.” A pack member asks.

“Something else? Like what?” Cooper asks.

“I don’t know. Like something not normal.”

“Hey...” Rose speaks. “I actually heard that they found dead some of the construction men that were going to build that highway over the lake.”

“I thought those were just rumors.” I say.

“I thought so too...” Cooper says. “...but I heard that a cave was found when they were digging.”

I shake my head. “Na, you are fishing.”

“It could be true.” Cooper says.

“So, this is where the party moved to!” Harvey suddenly says walking out of the house with Gabriel.

They have packs of beer with them.

Harvey gives a big smile. “My stupid little brother is under my mother's clutches right now so now I get to have fun.”

He starts taking the beers out of their plastic six-pack rings and throws them at us one by one.

“There's more where that came from!”

“Well, you know what? Why not?” Cooper says and opens the beer can.

A few more of our friends from our pack that were at Cooper's party join us. Now we have a small radio playing music. We play some games and dance.

Eventually, the meeting comes to an end but we continue to party. The alpha doesn’t mind about these things as long as we don’t take it inside the packhouse.

Soon the beers are gone but Harvey always has his ways. He goes back inside and comes out with a few liquor and wine bottles.

He starts pouring in cups and hands them over to us.

I take a sip and my eyes almost bulge out.

“Damn! This is strong!” Cooper shouts.

“Geeze. It went down my throat and felt like it was burning.” Rose says.

“That’s the good stuff.” Harvey says.

We continue drinking until suddenly, the world around me ceases to exist and all there is, is darkness.

-Rose POV-

“Uh!” My eyes open for a split second but I close them back up.

My head hurts really bad.

(Did I really get drunk?)

I know we were drinking a lot but for our kind, it still shouldn’t have been enough to get this messed up and I had less than most of the others did.

I force myself to open my eyes again and take a look around.

(The forest?)

I look down and see that I am naked. I sit up and take my surroundings in. I see my brother and Harvey also naked lying flat on the ground a few feet away from me.

“I think we all went for a run.”

I bring my hand to my head. “Uh... my head.”

All I want to do is lie back down and go to sleep. But I don’t. I get up and slowly start to stumble my way back to the campfire we had going on last night, leaving Harvey and Gabriel asleep on the ground. I know they’ll be fine.

I make it to the campfire that has now simmered to a smoke. A few people are asleep on the ground. I look to the side where there are piles of clothes. I quickly run to it and find my clothes in between all of them. As I put them on, I spot Helix's clothes.

“Is he still out there?”

I sit on one of the logs and close my eyes. I try to think back to last night but not a single thing comes back. I remember the campfire and I remember all of us but that is it.

I look up to see the morning light start to come out.

Tired, I start to make my way to the packhouse. All I want to do now is take a shower and lie on my bed. I am worried about Helix but like the others, I know he will be fine.

Inside as I walk through the halls on the second floor, Nova startles me. “Hey you!” She says. “You look like shit.”

I laugh and nod.

“I feel like shit.”

“So has my stupid brother made a move on you yet?” She asks.

I smile but before I can answer, we start to hear a commotion in one of the rooms. People in the hall, stop to look. That’s when I hear Helix's voice, shouting at someone.

I stop breathing when I notice that it is coming from Harper's room. My feet—as if they had a mind of their own—start to slowly make their way.

I stand in front of the door and slowly open it with Nova behind me. When the door is completely opened, I find Helix naked but holding a blanket over his lower half. He stands in front of the bed with his hand on his neck. His face has an expression of shock and pain. But he doesn’t look at me. He stares at Harper, who kneels on the bed with a blanket draped over her, covering her naked body.

(They... they... slept together?)

This all shocked me and I can feel my heart hurt but what really does the trick is when I notice her mouth dripping a bit of blood.

My eyes go to Helix who now also notices me and his eyes now open even wider than before. I look back at Harper and then back at him again.

He still holds his neck.

(She... marked him?!)
