SHE IS ONLY MINE

Mariam’s P.O.V. I slowly opened my eyes when my vision was still blurred. I closed my eyes again and then opened after a few seconds. My vision was still blurred. I panicked this time. Did I lost my eyesight again? “Hey… hey… don’t panic”, I heard his voice and his hands pinned my shoulder on the bed. “De..em”, I tried to speak but my throat ached badly. “Here… drink this”, I felt something cold against my lips. I opened my mouth and the warm water hit my tongue. I gulped down the water greedily as if my life dependent at that content. “I…. can’t see”, I cried when I felt like speaking after finishing the water. “The doctor is here to examine you. Let them check on you first, okay?” he said while comforting me. I could feel his hand on my face. He had cupped my face. I nodded and then his hand left my face. “Halo, Mrs Davenport… I am Dr Ronald and I am going to do some check on you”, I heard a voice and felt that someone was standing in front of me but nothing was clear. For the next few minutes he asked me a few questions and answered them honestly. “I think she will recover soon”, I heard him saying in a very hopeful tone. Suddenly something struck my mind. “Mom”, I yelled when I remembered when the last memories hit my brain. “Sssshhhhh… she is alright… don’t panic”, I heard Dr Ronald’s voice and he grabbed my shoulder. “No… she was with me… she was with me, Demitry”, I was now yelling in panic. We were talking about something when our crashed suddenly. The last I saw was my mother’s bloodied face. “She is alright… she is in good condition and soon she will be here”, I heard Dr Ronald’s voice again but my mind was not registering anything right now. “Mariam… listen to me… listen to me”, suddenly Demitry cupped my face again and stopped my movements. “She is alright and already has gained her consciousness. She will be here soon. She is alright. Trust me”, he made me listened to me. I blinked harder to clear my vision but it was still blurred. I couldn’t see his face but his voice was enough to tell me that he was stating the truth. “She is alright?” I asked him in a choked voice. Suddenly I was in his embrace. His comfortable embrace…. My comfort zone. “She is alright…. Don’t cry”, I heard him coaxing me. The warmth of his body made me relaxed and my body slumped down. We both remained in the same position until I stopped crying. I felt that I was not able to move my legs and hands properly. I didn’t know yet how badly I was injured this time. He lay me down on the bed again and wiped my face. “You once again have a brain injury, two broken ribs and left leg fracture. You were still recovering from your last injuries and that is why you are feeling more pain”, he told me after some time. “How long will I take to recover this time?” I asked him in a calm tone this time. “We are going back, Mariam”, he said instead of answering me and I took a long breath. “I have to stay here with mom, Demitry. I can’t leave her here. She is still in danger”, I once again had tears in my eyes. “She is going with us too. Dexter will take care of everything here. You can come back any time after you fully recover”, he said to me in a calm tone. “Are they involved in this accident?” I asked him after a while. “No… this accident is nothing related to them. The truck driver who hit your car is the one who called the ambulance and police too. He suddenly lost the control over the breaks and hit your car. The police has checked the truck and he was stating the truth”, he paused and I closed my eyes. I was relieved that they were not involved this time or else I didn’t know what I was going to do now. This time, my mother was also hit and there was no way that I would show any mercy to them. I felt his lips on my forehead. My heart skipped a beat when I felt the familiar sensation in my body. “You scared me to death, Mariam”, he murmured while kissing lightly on my face. I said nothing but let me melt in his touch. I didn’t know why he had this effect on my body, and I always forgot my pain. He was the cure for all my problems. Just one kiss from him and I forgot the universe around me. I felt his forehead on mine. He was slowly caressing my cheeks. I felt exhausted and my lids getting heavy with every passing second. “Sleep now, Mariam… you need to rest more”, I heard his coaxing voice and I only hummed in response. Demitry’s P.O.V. My mind shut down when I heard about the accident. Only my heart knew how I travelled this far without killing anyone. Dexter told me that a truck hit them when they were returning from the farmhouse. The truck driver lost control over the breaks and hit them. He also told me that the truck driver immediately called the ambulance and the police and somehow managed to pull them out of the burning car. He had already investigated and the driver came clean. He was an ordinary driver and this was only a bad incident. The problem was that Mariam again got a brain injury and this was serious because of her still healing brain. I almost forgot to breathe when I saw her again on the hospital bed after the operation. She was unconscious for two days and those two days were worse than the days that I had spent in the hospital after that accident. For the first time, I was scared. I was scared that I would loose her. I was stupid to leave her alone here. So, I decided to take her back with her mom. She was also badly injured but stable. I had already talked with her and she agreed with me because she was also scared. Although this accident was not planned by them, they were still planning something bad against her. The person who I assigned for her security told me that Valerie is upto something and in her critical condition. I was not going to take any risks in her life. It was really difficult to calm her down when she woke up. She panicked because she was not able to see properly. She told Dr Ronald that her vision was blurred. It was a relief because it meant that it was only temporary and she would see the world again. I couldn’t stop myself and pulled her in my embrace. She was injured but I wanted to feel the warmth of her body. I wanted to ensure that she was still with me. The way her body melted in my embrace was enough to give me the peace of my mind and my soul. I slowly put her down on the bed when I felt her breath go even. “Everything is ready, sir”, I heard Dexter’s voice. “Talk to the doctor first and ask him if we can shift her today”, I asked him in a calm but cold voice while looking at the sleeping face of Mariam. She had some wounds on her face too but they would heal with time. “Okay, sir”, he said and then there was silence in the room again. I could hear her even breathing. She was my angel. After taking her in my embrace, I actually realized how much I missed her. There was no way that I was going to let her go away from me any time in the future. She was mine and I would make sure that she would not go away from me in this life span. “Sir”, I heard Dexter’s voice again after a while. “Her mother wants to see her”, he told me when I didn’t respond to him. “Bring her here”, I instructed him without looking back. I then covered Mariam completely and kissed her forehead again before standing up from the bed. At the same time, the door of the room opened again and her mother came inside. I looked at her and saw tears in her eyes. “My baby”, she murmured in a choked voice when Dexter dragged her wheelchair near to Mariam. “She woke up a few minutes before. She is doing well”, I informed her briefly. She wanted to raise her hand but couldn’t because she also had a fracture in one hand. I looked at Dexter and he moved aside from the wheelchair. I moved her wheelchair a bit closer to her face so that she could see her properly. Her silent cry filled the room again. Though her condition was stable yet she had also lost a lot of blood and was weak. I slowly took her another hand and rested that on Mariam’s hand. She looked up at me with teary eyes as if she wanted to thank me. I supported her hand and she stroked her arm gently. “This is her second serious accident within a year. Will she be okay?” she asked me after a while and signalled me to put her hand down. “I have talked with the doctor. She will be alright. I am taking her back to my house with you”, I informed her. “I can’t go from here, Demitry. I lived my whole life here”, she said in a sad tone. “And she is your daughter, Mrs Lockhart who loves you more than her life. She will not go without you and there is no way that I am going to leave you here alone in this condition”, my tone was firm yet gentle, because she was not my enemy. She was her mother and, to be honest, an ideal mother that every child wanted for her or him. “Do you love her, Demitry?” her sudden question took me off guard but I didn’t loose my composure when her eyes pierced my soul. I didn’t want to answer her but somehow I knew that she knew the answer. “She is my wife, Mrs Lockhart and I ensure you her happiness and safety with me”, I said in a firm tone this time. “Sir”, before she could say a word, Dexter interrupted us in an apologetic tone. “Ms Valerie wants to see ma’am”, he informed me and my face went cold again.
