Rain's POV
"Ruth!!!"
I can't believe my little sister has finally arrived. I have missed her, she is not only my sister but also my best friend. Unlike Rachel, we get along supremely well, we can talk for hours about all kinds of things. Now I close her in my arms after two years. "Oohhh girl, I can't wait until we get home. I hope you will have a good time here," I whisper in her ear. And then I see her mate standing there.
"John, welcome. Thank you for being willing to let Ruth fulfill her dreams. You know how much she wants to be the pack doctor. And she has the talent for it," I greet my brother-in-law with a smile. John is the son of the former Gamma. "Thank you, Rain. I do anything for my little mate. And if she wants to study, it's no problem," he promises. We walk to my car and when Ruth catches sight of it, she circles it admiringly. "Waw, sis. Is this yours? Goodness, you must be loaded to be able to afford one of these," she whistles approvingly.
I smile.
I have yet to tell her that I have a Bugatti waiting for her in the garage. My personal preference is for the stylish Maserati, but I know that school-age girls like distinctive types of vehicles. The three of us get in and while heading home, Ruth updates me on everything that has happened in the pack over the past years. She avoids the subject of Jasper and I don't ask her anything in return. This is not the right time to find out more. My wolf and I yearn to know how our mate is doing but we must be patient.
As we drive toward my apartment, Ruth's mouth falls open.
"Rain! This neighborhood is a high-end one. Are you rich? How can you live here if you're not a millionaire?" she exclaims in amazement. I smile. "I worked hard, also studied online. There was little time to reflect on the past, so I kept building my present. And now I have my sister with me, life couldn't be better," I grin at her. I feel John's energy increases, meaning he is holding back immensely. He probably wants to say something that concerns my mate but Ruth has forced him to remain silent on the subject. Which I actually appreciate, I am not yet ready to talk about it with any other pack member other than Ruth.
As we take the elevator to my apartment, my sister bats her eyes. Arriving at my doors, I immediately program her and John's fingerprints into the system. Even when we are inside, she walks around, her eyes big and mouth open with disbelief. "Ruth, just a little while longer and flies will gather in your mouth," I joke. "Come, let me show you your room. Take a bath and then we'll meet at the kitchen table in an hour," I indicate. I point them to one of the spacious bedrooms with its own bath and walk-in closet. At home in the pack, we have those too, but this room is luxuriously furnished, the morning sun shines in amazingly and it is much larger. I hear Ruth's suppressed cry of admiration as I turn around and walk to the kitchen.
I take my laptop and decide to finish some personal work while the two settle down.
An hour later, they return. Ruth looks happy and John glances at her in love. This reassures me somewhat, the relationship between my sister and her mate will certainly not end up like mine. "Ruth, John. I want to make you a proposition," I begin. "Here you each have a credit card with five hundred thousand dollars apiece. If you complete your studies within the exact periods, consider this a gift for your graduation. If it takes longer or you drop out, you will have to pay me back everything in the same period as you were in university." Waiting expectantly, I look at them as I slip each a card.
"Rain! That's a lot of money. You know John and I take our studies seriously and naturally complete them within the academic year. You lost your money, a million in total," she grins. I chuckle. "I'll take my chances. I want to see my sister achieve her dreams. And know that this money does nothing to my bank account, I don't even notice it's gone," I assure them. John looks at me gratefully. "Thank you, Rain. I was really worried about how we would survive here and I was already planning to get a job while Ruth studies. This makes it so much easier. I do insist on paying back what I used," he declares.
I shake my head.
"Then we can now afford an apartment for ourselves. We will soon look out for a place of our own to give you your privacy again," Ruth promises with a smirk. I took care of that too. "There is an apartment available in this same building. Not a penthouse, but convenient for the two of you. I asked the management to hold it until you have viewed it. That can be tomorrow morning," I tell the couple in front of me. My sister jumps around my neck. "Ooohhh God! Thank you, sis. You are great!"
I give her a wink.
"I actually have another surprise for you. The campus is a good two hours from here with the public bus. Come with me," I beckon them as I get up and walk to the door. Through the elevator, we come to the designated parking spaces. Each apartment has two spots. I pull a remote from my pocket and open the doors. When I turn to Ruth, she looks at me incredulously. "Rain? Are you lending us that? But that's an expensive car," she exclaims.
I laugh.
"No, that's my gift to you for graduating and making the family proud once again. I wasn't there at your graduation so that's how I want to make it up to you. This is all yours," I declare as I extend the keys to her. With trembling hand she clasps it, takes her mate by the hand and together, they walk to the vehicle. She hands Josh the digital key and gets into the passenger seat. The engine growls on and they take off for a ride of a lifetime. ...
