I remembered my mom, the Luna of Mathilde pack who had been in prison for nine years and I wept painfully, squeezing the collar of my t-shirt.
Before she was taken by Alpha Grenold's army, she ran into my room and was trying to explain something, but none of the things she said made sense to me because I was just ten years old and she was talking very fast. I felt she should have told me whatever she had to say earlier.
From all my mom said that fateful morning, the only thing I remembered was:
'My fate and that of all the people Alpha Grenold held hostage are in you and Jupiter's hands! You and Jupiter must save us! Dahlia, both of you must save us! As Jupiter waits for the full manifestation of his abilities, do not hesitate to ask him for help when you need help. He…" a hand grabbed her and dragged her out of the room violently. I wailed and ran after Alpha Grenold's army that took the Luna of Mathilde pack away, hitting my small fist on her captors' backs, but none of them felt anything. It was as if I was hitting my little fist on a rock.
They tied my mom up, threw her in the back of their truck, and drove away. Their departure raised clouds of dust and the clouds of dust covered the entire pack. I could hear the sound of the moving truck making its way through the woods, but I could not see it. I fell to my knees and cried out. My heart broke into pieces.
None of the pack wolves came out. They were afraid of the immortal Alpha Grenold. My dad was busy in his bedroom with one of his mistresses. He did not know his wife had been taken.
A strong hand flung me up like a piece of cloth and held my head firmly on his chest. I did not need to guess who he was. Jamal had been obsessed with me since I knew him. As my bodyguard, he came to my rescue each time I was in trouble.
However, everything about Jamal changed a week after my thirteenth birthday. He became so weak and couldn't even save himself. The only thing he had was fast legs because he was very tall. He took off whenever he saw trouble and people began to call him a weak and useless slave.
*******
It had been nine years already since my mom was taken away. I haven't set my eyes on Jupiter - the forbidden name in Seavia. I have asked a lot of questions. I have talked to all the elders in our pack, but no one seemed to know who Jupiter is. The oldest man in our pack I met last warned me not to mention that forbidden name again. When I asked him why, he told me that Alpha Grenold had been looking for Jupiter too. He took my mom because she knew who Jupiter is. If words got to Alpha Grenold that I knew something about Jupiter, he would take me in for questioning. After hearing that, I stopped searching for Jupiter.
However, as I kept thinking about the threat Alan issued and the calamity that was about to befall my pack, my mom's words kept hammering in my head and the urge to look for Jupiter came back again in full force. It was as if my fate was in him and only he had a solution to the looming disaster.
I began to pack my bags as I got ready to search all the packs in Seavia one more time. I did not intend to tell my father where I was going, since he did not care about our pack. He cared about Alice, his human mistress.
Gena and Zahira ran into the room while I was zipping my bag. They wanted us to go out and play games under the full moon, but I did not feel like going out. None of them knew the trouble that awaited me and Mathilde pack and I couldn't tell them either.
"Gena, Zahira, please go, I want to go out," I said and lifted my bag.
"Dahlia, it's 11 pm," Gena said.
"I know," I muttered.
"Where do you want to go?" Gena asked.
I stood still with my eyes fixed on the entrance. Tears blurred my vision.
"Dahlia, where the hell are you going this night!" Gena shouted.
"I want to find Jupiter."
"Dahlia!" Zahira shouted. "You have been warned never to mention that name again! Why are you so adamant?"
"My mom told me to find him before she was taken away and I must find him!"
"Do you know what Alpha Grenold does to all the women in his captivity?" Gena asked.
"No," I responded nonchalantly, as if I did not know…
"He fùcks their ass hole horribly! You have been warned to stop mentioning that name. Jupiter is the reason why Alpha Grenold is going around all the packs in Seavia, capturing women and those he suspects that knew something about Jupiter. Your mom was taken away because she knew him! Please, stop looking for him because you will never find him. That name would only land you in big trouble!" Gena said.
"It doesn't exist in Seavia," Zahira added.
"If it does, Alpha Grenold, who had been looking for him, would have found him. "
"I'm going out in search of him," I said, lifted my small bag, and began to walk towards the door. I didn't want to shift before them. I was so ashamed of my new color or rather new wolf who had been quiet.
"What is wrong with you, Dahlia?" Gena grabbed my wrist and halted my departure. I turned around and faced them.
"Gena, I'm in a big mess right now and only Jupiter can save me and my people!" I shouted and they opened their eyes in surprise.
"I have six days to find him! If I do not, my pack will be destroyed by Alpha Grenold," I wept. They stood up and moved closer.
"What are you saying?"
"I'm saying that I need Jupiter's help. Alpha Greenold will be here on Saturday!!"
"You have been defeating Alpha Grenold. Why are you suddenly afraid of him?" Zahira asked. "Is there something you are not telling us?"
I dropped the bag I was holding and began to cry. My friends held me and kept wiping my tears.
Gena and Zahira are the best friends one can have, so I thought. We have been friends since we were in high school and we trusted each other with our lives. Their fathers are Alphas of different packs.
At the age of nineteen, Zahira, and I are the most beautiful werewolves in Seavia. Gena is twenty-one and beautiful too. Other she-wolves are jealous of us. I stand at the height of 5"9, while my friends were both 5"10. My color is white and my figure is curving and regal. I also have a wealth of wavy red hair with dark roots.
"Dahlia, it's okay," Zahira said as she wiped my tears.
"What of Xiane?" Gena asked. My tears, which had almost dried up, began to pour out again.
"Hi, Dahlia," a high-pitched and youthful female voice said. I wiped my tears and paid attention to the voice that echoed in my head.
"Dahlia," the voice called again.
"Oh, my God! Xiane, what happened to your voice?" I asked, waving at my friends. They understood my gesture and left the room. I shut my door to avoid interruption and sat on my bed.
"Xiane, are you there?"
"I'm not Xiane," the voice said.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Juno, your wolf."
I stood up immediately and my eyes opened widely.
"Juno?"
"Yes," she answered.
"What is going on?" I asked, but she kept quiet.
"Juno," I called again. "Where is Xiane?"
"I don't know who she is," she responded coldly.
"She is my wolf and has been with me since I was thirteen!"
"I am your wolf," Juno said.
"Does it mean Xiane is not my wolf?" I asked.
"I'm Juno and I'm your wolf," Juno replied. I couldn't explain the burning sensation I was feeling inside me. If Juno or whatever she called herself knew how tight I had bonded with Xiane, she would just stop talking.
"Where have you been all this while?" I asked after a while.
"Jupiter took over my position and I took his," Juno replied. Goosebumps appeared all over my body as soon as she mentioned Jupiter.
My mom was right! There was someone named Jupiter. Irrepressible smiles curved my lips and I felt I was a step closer to my helper. I couldn't wait to meet him. 'If he is single, I will choose him as my mate,' I said in my mind. Juno hopped inside me and I could feel her excitement.
"Why are you excited?" I asked.
"I want him."
"Has he chosen a mate?"
"No," Juno replied.
"You seem to know Jupiter very well. Who is he and where can I find him?"
"He is the son of the Moon Goddess and the savior of all wolves," Juno replied.
"Where is he?" I asked.
"I'm sorry, I can't tell you where he is, but I can take you there."
"You are sent by the goddess!" I screamed happily. Juno bounced appreciatively.
"Thank you very much, Juno. When are we going?"
"On Thursday," Juno responded.
"Thursday? No, it's too far!"
"He traveled out of the country for special training. He will be back on Wednesday night."
"Can we go on Wednesday?" I asked impatiently.
"No," she responded.
"Alright, Thursday then," I said, and began to unpack my bag. What Juno told me filled me with inexpressible joy and hope.
