Chapter 14 –––––––– I half-stood for half a second so she could kiss me on the cheek, and as she sat down across from me she put her hand over mine. My heart jumped, of course. That's how it works. She was older, yes, but she hadn't changed – not in any way that would have mattered to me. Her eyes still had the same mischievous charm. Her smile still made me light up inside. The fact that she would smile at me like that still made me feel good about myself. There was something subtle just below that gleam in her eyes, though.
