Chapter 13 –––––––– I sat in the back of the cafe diner near my apartment with the visor of a baseball cap pulled down low over my eyes to keep out the light of the sun. I had a hangover, and the clatter of plates and coffee cups was sending waves of pain and irritation right through my skull. On the theory that dry toast and some eggs would help matters, I had ordered breakfast. One bite had convinced me that there was no help to be found in that direction. I choked down on the resulting nausea and pushed the plate as far away from me as I could get it, earning a funny look from a passing waitress.
