Anyway, Howard and Monica finally strike a deal.
Monica would help Howard get the gem, and Howard would leave the town, leaving the town in peace again.
However, I didn't think Howard fully trusted Monica; he just didn't have any other choice.
My guess was not unfounded because after they made the deal, Howard again confirmed that Monica really knew the whereabouts of the gem.
