Chapter 15
They slowly walked, at gunpoint, through the jungle until they could see the sun shimmering off the surface of a distant lake between the trees. Quinn didn’t seem to notice. She just stared at the ground, still in shock from Alvin’s sudden execution. Her anger held back the tears, for now.
When they approached the water’s edge, they immediately saw the Heinkel seaplane anchored nearby. The lake was surrounded by trees, and though fairly large, landing a plane looked like it had required a very skilled pilot. This close to water, swarms of mosquitoes attacked them again, but Quinn, Jimmy and Dayton felt too defeated to care. The Germans were very tense and ignored the mosquito bites.
