They passed two more cracked limestone slabs, though no bones were lying under or around these. Likely the wooden supports had disintegrated and failed with time releasing the stones into the tunnel. This was good news. No Spanish raiders had triggered these traps so maybe they had given up after the first two deaths. Maybe only those two soldiers had found their way into the tunnel but hadn’t lived to tell others about the hidden tunnel. There was hope that the underground temple remained intact.
