Shattered

I felt something or someone licking my face. I opened my eyes to see my wolf. As soon as she saw my eyes open she licked my face even more.
"Moon" I giggled, gently pushing her away.
"I've been trying to wake you for a while now", I heard her loud and clear, as if she had spoken out loud. I looked around the beautiful meadow. There are different flowers, the sky is clear, and there are different birds flying around. I noticed a beautiful pod not too far away. I got up and walked to it with Moon beside me. When I got to the pond, I knelt down and noticed the small fishes. I looked at my reflection in the water and saw that my hair was in its natural curls with small flowers all over it, and I was wearing a white dress that ended just above my knees. Moon sat next to me and looked at the water.
"Moon, are we dead?" I asked her.
"No, we are in a place called 'In Between'" Moon said.
"Why are we here?" I asked.
"I brought us here to heal us. After the rejection, our ex mate mated his chosen mate and it was hurting us. I can't say that when we go back it won't hurt, after all the bond is broken, but you will still feel some of the effects, but with time it will get better", Moon said.
"What about the blood? Was I dying?" I asked.
"No, not you" she said, and I could hear the sadness in her voice. There was so much sadness in her eyes and it broke my hear to see her so sad. Was she hurting because of our mate? I opened my mouth to ask her who, but she beat me to it.
"It's time, Aksana. I need you to wake up" she said.
"What? Why?" I asked then added, "I like it here." Moon rubbed her head on my side before licking my cheek once then stepped back.
"I know, but it's time to go back home" she said before gently touching her forehead with mine and, I felt myself falling back. I felt my body twitch slightly and I could hear a beeping sound. Beep. Beep. Beep. It was getting annoying. I wanted someone to turn it off. Beep. Beep.
I groaned at the beeping sound. I opened my eyes and blinked a few times to adjust my vision. I looked around to see I was in a white room with a white ceiling, then I saw the machine that I was attached to, the one that was making all the beeping noises. I brought my hand up and winced at the needle in my hand. This caught the attention of my parents and brother.
“Aksana!” mom exclaimed, rushing towards me. Dad and Alex were not far behind her. I could see the dark circles in their eyes. They looked exhausted, yet happy now that I'm awake.
“Thank the Goddess” dad said with relief in his voice, while Alex rushed towards me and hugged me.
“I’m okay”, I assured them. I looked at them and the bag under their eyes.
"How long have I been out?" I asked. They looked at each other before dad kissed the top of my head.
"You've been asleep for a week" Alex replies.
“Baby, what happened?” mom asked. Shame filled me and I shook my head as tears stung my eyes. I knew I couldn’t continue to hide this from them.
“On my birthday, I found my mate”, I began and told them everything that had happened. I told them the pain I had been going through alone and how I was rejected by my mate. I also told them how sorry I was for not telling them.
“Oh my baby” mom said, hugging me.
“Who is it? I will kill him” Alex growled. I could see the anger in his eyes.
“You can’t” I said.
“And why not?” dad and Alex growled in unison.
“Because he’s your current Alpha and you have worked hard for the position of Beta”, I tell Alex, who scoffs.
“You are more important, Aksana. Family is always more important”, Alex said, and my parents nodded. Before I could say anything else, there was a knock on the door and dad opened the door. Doctor Mitch came in.
“Hello Aksana. How are you feeling?” he asked.
“I’m okay” I said and he nodded.
“I would like to check your vitals before I speak to you about something” he said, and I nodded. He checked my vitals and wrote everything down on the clipboard he had in his hand before standing next to my parents.
"Aksana, the next couple of questions I'm going to ask you are personal. It is up to you if you want your parents and brother to stay or if they leave", Doctor Mitch said.
"They can stay" I said, making him nod in confirmation.
“Aksana, have you found your mate?” Doctor Mitch asked. I looked at my brother and parents.
“Aksana, this is patient/ doctor confidentiality. I’m asking you in front of your parents and brother because I know you said you wanted them here”, Doctor Mitch said, and I nodded.
“Yes, I found my mate, but he rejected me” I said and I could see the sadness in the doctor’s eyes as he nodded in understanding.
"I figured as much" Doctor Mitch said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"There are slight bruises on your abdomen and ribs from your mate mating with someone else" Doctor Mitch said, making my parents and Alex growl. Doctor Mitch looked at his clipboard before looking back at me, but I looked away to the window. I had no idea that was the reason why I had bruises. I thought it was just because of training. I guess I was wrong.
“Aksana, did you know you were pregnant?” Doctor Mitch asked, making my head snap towards him so fast that I think I got whiplash.
“What?” I asked.
“What do you mean were?” Alex asked.
“The rejection caused you to have a miscarriage. I’m so sorry for your loss”, Doctor Mitch said. I felt my wolf trying to take over, but I pushed her back. I looked at the Doctor, then my parents and finally my brother. As if sensing the fight with my wolf, dad ushered the doctor out and a growl ripped through me. Cory managed to do something no one ever had. Cory didn't just break me, he shattered me.
“I lost my pup because that asshole rejected me” I cried as I broke down for the first time with my parents and brother there. The three of them held me as I came undone. Cory didn’t just manage to break me… he shattered me completely. I don’t know how long I cried for, but my parents and brother never left me.
“I can’t stay here” I said hoarsely.
“What do you mean sweetie?” mom asked, pulling back.
“I can’t see my ex mate walking around with the woman he has caused me so much pain and rejected me for. It will be a constant reminder that he caused me to lose my pup” I said. Mom sighed and hugged me tighter.
“I have a friend at the Royal Pack. I can ask him if he can talk to the King and take you in” dad said.
“Thank you, but I have one more request” I said, pulling back from them.
“I think is time for my wolf to be known. She doesn’t want to be hidden anymore. A new start, a new me” I said.
“I think Aksana is right. She has kept her wolf hidden for so long. It’s time she let her out”, Alex said, and I gave him a thankful smile.
“Fine. I will speak to my friend, but you have to promise us that you will continue with your training”, dad said.
“I will. Thank you for being understanding” I said.
“We love you kiddo. Never forget that” Alex said.
“I love you all too”, I smiled. After another hour, my parents and brother left while I stayed back in the hospital with my thoughts. My hand went to my belly. I was pregnant by my ex mate and because he rejected me, I lost my baby.
‘One day, he will be on his knees asking us for forgiveness’ Moon said, and I nodded in agreement before closing my eyes to rest, not knowing that I was being watched.
