After dropping the kids off at school, I wanted to join Robert and Finn when they tested out the necklaces with the charms that Myles had been making for our pack. They were planning on testing them in the throne room. I was worried so I had arranged for Doctor Brown, the pack doctor, to be there, just in case anything bad happened. Once everyone was in the throne room, Myles stepped forward and handed the necklaces with the special gems to Robert and Finn.
“I have already cast the spells on the chains and the gems. So, all we need to do is test a few spells on you while you are wearing them, and then you will need to shift from human form to your beast form, and back,” Myles explained to Robert and Finn.
“Do you want us to shift as slowly as we can, or shift at a normal pace,” Robert asked.
Myles shook his head, as he replied, “No, shift at a normal pace. I thought it hurts the slower you shift.”
“It does, but if we need to shift slowly, then we can do that. It will just be painful. Pain, I think we are both willing to go through this,” Robert informed him, as he slipped the necklace on.
Finn did the same. Myles stood a fair distance away from them, ready to throw spells at them. He began casting spells on both Robert and Finn. None of the spells worked on either of them, because of the charms on the necklaces. Well, they worked while Robert and Finn were in human form, but what about when they shift and do? They work once they have shifted.
“Great, now if you do, you can shift. If it works, then we will try to cast some spells on you while you are in your beast form,” Myles instructed them.
Finn and Robert both nodded. Myles nodded back at them, and they both shifted into beast form. Thankfully, the spell Myles had cast on the chains worked, and they grew bigger as Robert and Finn shifted. Robert’s Lycan, Night, and Finn’s Lycan, Brute, stood before us with the chains hanging perfectly around their necks, almost like a dog collar. Myles immediately began casting spells at them. The necklaces worked. This was great news for the whole pack.
“Myles, how many do you have made? When can we expect more of these necklaces to be made,” I asked, as Robert and Finn shifted back.
“I have two hundred made already. I should have a parcel arriving, with more materials in, to make more, at some point today. I should have more ready within the next few days,” Myles informed us.
“Quinn and Violet, could you take enough for those that live and guard the palace? Then me and Quinn will begin to hand them out to those on patrol,” Robert ordered.
“Doctor Brown, you should take one too. You are our doctor, if we go to war, you need to be protected to be able to help those wounded, sick, or even pregnant,” I added, to which Robert nodded in agreement.
Doctor Brown took one, put it on before speaking, “Thank you King Robert and Queen Violet, but I need to check on my patients before I meet up with Queen Violet, to sort out some medical supplies for the dragons.”
I took necklaces for every person that lived in the house except myself, because I didn’t need one, thanks to my immunity to magic. Quinn took ones for each pack member assigned to being palace guards, while I put one on him. I handed four to Amelia, for her and her children. The last nine I held in my hand. They were for my children, and Felicity, Charles, and their children.
“I will get these out to the palace guards,” Quinn said, before leaving to go around the palace.
Amelia had the younger children in the corner of the throne room playing quietly while the test was going on. Amelia put her necklace on herself, and then Ivy and Morgan. I placed one on Jayden and Jaxon, making them a little smaller because they were designed for adults. Robert came over, wrapping his arms around my waist.
“When Quinn gets back, I am going to go with him to the warriors building to give out the rest of the necklaces to those on patrol duties. After that, I will go to my office to do some work,” Robert smiled.
“I can look after the little ones while you get the medical supplies sorted out at the hospital,” Amelia offered.
“Both of you promise to let me know the moment something happens, I will drop everything and be right back here,” I demanded.
They both nodded. A few moments later, Quinn returned, and him, Robert, and Myles went off to the warrior building to give the necklaces out to those who are on patrol most. Amelia and I took the kids to the play room, where there was a guard at the door.
“Stay here, till I get back. If you need anything, get one of the maids to bring it to you,” I told Amelia, as I kissed Jayden and Jaxon goodbye.
“You know I will,” Amelia smiled, reassuringly. She knew better than anyone how much I hated leaving my kids, but being the Queen, I have responsibilities to my people.
I smiled, waving goodbye. Before turning to the guard at the door, and ordering him, “Do not let anyone in the room unless it is myself, King Robert, or Beta Quinn. Anyone else, you must ask Beta Amelia first, before opening the door to the room.”
He nodded in understanding. Afterwards, I made my way to the hospital to meet with Doctor Brown, who I believe had spoken with the dragons’ doctor, about the symptoms those infected were experiencing. I met with Doctor Brown in the supply room of the hospital. She had a stack of crates ready to be filled with medical supplies.
“Right, Doctor Brown, what were the symptoms the doctor said the infected were experiencing?”
“He said that they have been experiencing high fevers; pain in the muscles, joints, and bones; bleeding from the noses, ears, and eyes; and rashes. I do have a list of medicines in mind that might help, and also have some science equipment listed to send them that could help them find a cure,” Doctor Brown explained.
“Well, let’s get to work. I take it they will need IV drips, and IV bags.”
“Yes, here is the list I wrote. If we box everything up and tick things off as we go, then we won’t box up something we already packed.”
“Agreed. When is our next medical supply delivery?”
“It should be in a weeks' time. The dragons have a delivery then too. But, we have enough to be able to donate some medical supplies, so we won’t run out. Are we sending anything else to them?”
We began to gather different medical supplies and carefully put them in the crates. We sent many different types of painkillers and antibiotics.
“When the kids finished school, Elisa was going to help me pack for the dragons. So, I am leaving the food supplies till she can help me. I was thinking about making lots of lasagnes with her help to send to them, giving all of them a night of cooking. Elisa would love to help me with that, she wants to learn to cook,” I explained, as we began to pack medical equipment, such as syringes, cannulas, and clinical swabs.
“I think that is a wonderful idea. I am sure they would love that. Have you discovered anything about Elisa’s birth mark, which is shaped like wings?”
“I haven’t, but she is already starting to develop powers.”
“What powers would that be,” asked Doctor Brown.
“She walked through the bonfire last night, her clothes ignited straight away, but she didn’t sustain a single scratch. She then said fire was her friend and wouldn’t hurt her. She knows how to start fires, and talk to fires,” I explained, as I packed medical tubing, valves, clamps, and connectors.
“Could it be possible that those wings are meant to be dragon wings?”
I froze, turning to look at Doctor Brown, and said, “It would explain the fire-related powers, and why she was so eager to help pack supplies for the dragons.”
“Given this new information, I will hit the books again and see if I can find anything that could explain this ongoing situation.”
“Thank you, Doctor Brown,” I thanked her, as I continued packing more medical supplies.
A mindlink was pushed open to me. It was a palace guard. His name was Lionel.
“Queen Violet, forgive the intrusion, but Myles, the warlock, requested that I mindlink you to inform you that he has just received his delivery of the gems that he is using to make the necklaces that we were given earlier today,” Lionel explained to me, in our mindlink.
“Thank you for informing, Lionel,” I replied, closing the mindlink.
I looked at my watch, only three hours before I had to collect the kids from school, and Doctor Brown and I were only halfway through the list of items she had written down.
“If you need to go, your majesty, I can finish packing the medical supplies,” Doctor Brown offered.
“No, I was just keeping an eye on the time. I still have a few hours before I need to get the children, so I will keep helping,” I replied.
“I honestly have never known or even heard of a Queen in all of Lycan history quite like you. You are completely selfless, always wanting to help others, so many of my patients say the same things,” Doctor Brown praised me. The praise was always needed. I was never raised to be a Queen, but how my parents raised me has seemingly made me the best Queen they have ever known.
“Thank you, Doctor Brown. In all honesty, I have no idea what I am doing most of the time, I just know that I need to do my best for everyone around me,” I replied, modestly.
We had just finished another crate full of medical supplies, we had made six crates so far, when Robert turned up, and said, “How are we doing in here, my love?”
“Well, six crates done so far, and we are just over half way through the list, that Doctor Brown had written after speaking to the dragon doctor,” I responded, pointing to the six crates we had already done.
“That is good. I have handed out all the necklaces. Is there anything I can help with,” Robert asked.
“I thought you had paperwork to do.”
“I do have paperwork to do, but I always want to help my Queen with everything she does, and I wanted to see you,” he smiled, coming over to me and wrapping his arms around my waist, as I tried to pack stuff into the next crate.
Suddenly, Quinn came skidding to a stop outside the door of the medical supply storage room, holding a brown envelope in his hand, blurting out, “Robert, Violet, you need to see this now.”
We both rushed to his side. Robert took the brown envelope from Quinn. He pulled the contents out. It was a note and a set of photos. The note read, “Give us your son, and no one will be harmed. Fail to do so, and we will take him by force.”
There were pictures of Alexander. Of him when he was at home, in the garden, and even at school. No! They knew he was going to school. There isn’t as much security there.
“Robert, we have to get to our children now. They aren’t safe at school anymore.”
“How did they get photos like this of him,” he growled.
“We will deal with that later. Our kids need to be at home in the palace with us, where they will be safe,” I growled back.
Without realising, my eyes began to glow purple. Somehow, I could see where my kids were right at that moment. I spoke quickly, “The kids are safe at the school, but I am not leaving them there any longer. We need to move now. Doctor Brown, can you finish this?”
She nodded, “Go, be with your children.”
I nodded, before shoving past Robert and Quinn, running and started out the door. I knew Robert and Quinn were hot on my heels, as we all ran towards the school. There was no way I was letting them near my son. When I find the person that took those photos, I will tear them apart, for their betrayal. I am not letting my kids leave the palace without me from now on. I am going to home school them.
