Chapter 5: Question (5)

“Do you really think so…” Zack seemed hesitant at first but ended up being easily convinced after hearing the elder male’s response.
“I’m more than sure they are…” Jayden said while still keeping his smile on his face. ‘Now is this kid going to go home or not…’ He wondered to himself. It wasn’t that he disliked the company but didn’t want to burden a child with standing beside him at such a depressing atmosphere such as the one the hospital provided.
“Zack! I can’t believe you’re bothering people again!” An older man came in the room, by the looks of it he was about 35 years of age and had a strong muscular build. He instantly went and caught the students’ head and made him bow down to apologize. “I’m so sorry if he has inconvenienced you in any way…” The man also bowed his head respectfully.
“Uncle… I wasn’t doing that!” Zack complained as he tried to raise his head.
“Zack… I’ve told you doing this isn’t good, alright?” The uncle allowed the student to raise his head and spoke to him softly.
“…….” The student remained silent at those words and simply glanced over at the man lying on the hospital bed.
“He really wasn’t a bother at all…” Jayden said as he shook his head. “In fact it was great to have someone to talk to and worry for me after I wake up.” The man said as he tilted his head to the side and smiled. It might have been a forced smile but honestly he found the situation funny in a lot of ways.
“You don’t need to be polite… I know how annoying kids can be but please forgive him if he did anything rude-” The man was interrupted mid sentence.
“He really was a great help.” Jayden said in a rushed voice. “It really made me feel better so don’t be so harsh on him…” He continued.
“If that’s so then… I’m glad.” The man turned to the student and patted him on the shoulder as if telling him he did well.
“You see, I wasn’t a nuisance.” Zack said proudly.
“Sure, sure… Now it’s time to go home.” The man said as he pulled the student by the wrist.
“Uncle wait!” Zack took out his phone and went to the man on the bed. “Is it alright if you tell me your number?” He asked in a kind voice.
“Why would you need the number of an old man like me?” Jayden asked as he laughed, he hadn’t had someone ask for his number in years, it made him feel young again. He glanced over at the uncle to see if the other would approve.
The man nodded his head and said. “If it’s not a problem for you please do…”
“Happily…” Jayden said as he wrote down his number in the student’s phone.
“Great, so… um… could you call when you get discharged?” Zack said in a voice that made him sound his age.
“Sure thing, though I don’t see why you’d want that.” Even though Jayden was flattered in many ways because of the student’s gesture, he also found it unbelievably odd.
“This kid just likes meddling into other people’s business…” The uncle said as he tapped the student on his shoulders urging him to leave with him. “Thank you for going along with his whims but you really don’t have to call. Now have a nice evening…” He said as he took the student by the elbow and led him towards the door.
“Then at least text me you’re alright!” Zack said as he was basically being dragged out of the room.
“I’ll be sure to do that.” Jayden said with a smile on his face, he somehow found the strange situation funny. Even though he had just gotten out of an eleven years relationship, found his best friend sleeping with his partner and ultimately falling on his head and having to spend time and money in the hospital. He still had at least a single reason to smile, it was odd but not unpleasant.
As Jayden laid there in his bed he couldn’t help but remember the man that walked in today. ‘He was quite handsome, wasn’t he…’ Jayden thought to himself as he remembered the tall man with coffee brown hair that had walked in the room today. It wasn’t that he had fallen for him, but as a proud gay man he could appreciate seeing another handsome man without being attracted to him. Though it would be a lie if Jayden said he didn’t at least think about it for a bit.
It was all because between him and Anthony everything had been over years before. It just took them so long to break up with each other. So in a way Jayden shouldn’t feel obliged to wait a certain amount of time before dating anyone else. Then yet for a man of the age of thirty three, he didn’t really have the same skills at dating as he did when he was younger…
